1. I'd keep in there for a while whilst they are answering the questions, but keep looking. It sounds like they may have delusions of grander, if they get a decent singer, you could start out in pubs and see what develops from there.... I'd certainly be suggesting that
2. They have a workshop in the guitar shop. They defretted a bass for me, did a fab job
3. Glad it went well, and that you are going in with your eyes open as to what you could achieve as a band.
4.
Welcome, new mods! I very much look forward to upsetting you all in due course.
No change there then
5. I'm weeping!! I've been looking for gig insurance for my kit.... whilst I haven't paid full price for them all as I have bought a lot second hand, I know that if the van was broken into there is NO WAY I could replace my kit. Ah for the simple days of using a £50 bass and a cheapo Peavy combo
6.
Not bought a 2013 album yet
+1 I tend to join the music party very late. I'm not old, just retro
7. Lost the time and the plot this month.... And I had an idea for a cheery ditty about the man on his chair....
8.
Combined with a crap drummer, a bird who thinks she's Adele and an incontinent alcoholic guitarist with a messiah complex.
Love it
9. I had La Belle flats when I had my 5 string (since sold it as I wasn't using it enough) and the low B never had much oomph or volume to it. My bass was an Ibanez. I blamed the strings at th time, but maybe not! Hope you get to the bottom of it!
10. This is the reason I ONLY have Ibanez basses (with the exception of my acoustic), as I have small girly hands and small girly fingers. It's the only bass that feels natural and comfortable to me.
11.
haha she prefers `women who kill` on sky haha
That is a brilliant series!!! Haven't watched it in ages! Hubby got very disturbed when I was watching it! LOL!
12. Good idea Molan! I think I'll trial a few things at rehearsal on Tuesday, and if I don't get any joy I'll pop him and email.
13. Have a great time everyone! Gutted I won't see the chapman stick, I've yet to see one in the flesh! Hope to meet you all soon xx
14.
Oh, and in the second octave the notes are very, very, tightly packed - it sounds obvious, but it takes a while to get used to! Fretless will improve your 'ear' like nothing else
This!! My ear and listening at my intonation is fascinating.... I'd say record yourself and listen back too, sometimes you can't hear intonation issues in a band setting when there are other things going on. Gosh, even watching Roger Waters and The Wall on Monday night whoever played the bass (couldn't tell as they were behind the wall!) made some shocking intonation errors!!
15. I'm going to be a no show too I was planning on OH and I doing an overnighter tonight and tomorrow night in London (doing other nice things too). However, my MIL has gone on holiday and our other pet sitter has gone away for the weekend. We can't leave the cats and chickens for that long. I had been toying with driving up and back tomorrow, but it all honesty I think it'll be too much. So I will have to pass this time, but really hope I can meet you all soon!
16. Thanks, always appreciate hearing views. Both pictures are my stuff!! I keep my PJB eq flat, as I do EQ based on the effect I use. I could turn down the output on the Boss, as that is fairly high at the moment. I'll have a play when I'm at rehearsal on Tuesday. (I use a small Peavy practice amp at home) My Ibby SR1000 is VERY powerful, my SR300 less so, so I keep my SR1000 volume lower. I use the active inputs as they are both active basses. Thanks again for your help!
17.
Have you tried each bass in a separate channel and then running the pedal board in the fx loop?
I haven't tried that! May be worth giving it a shot! My only concern doing that is switching between basses, as I surely would need to turn the volume off on the amp on the channel to do it.... Or would it work like it does now with the switcher pedal in that I can just do the foot activated volume off and on on the GT10b? Sorry, I always get lost of the amplification side of things!!
18. Ok, my set up.... A PJB M300 amp (450 watts at 4ohms), 2 x PJB 4B cabs.... Plugged into the amp is my Boss GT10B, I have a splitter pedal attached to the boss which my Ibanez SR300 fretless and Ibanez SR1000 feed in to. My issue... If I leave the limiter switched on the amp the volume is tiny, and if I turn up the volume just a bit it gives out a hideous croaky noise. If I leave the limiter off, the gain on the active input it still set quite low or the overload flashes, however, the main volume can go to a decent level and throws out some good bass sounds. For gigs, I can go through the PA if I need to, but our PA is quite old and I'd rather rely on my own gear. Will I be damaging my amp if I permanently keep the limiter off? The volume is pants if it's on. Also, as long as I keep the overload light from flashing, am I going to be OK. I really thought when I bought the PJB gear that I was buying a kit to last me for life, now I'm wondering is it really the best thing for me. Any advice gratefully received.
19. Glad you accepted it
20. I frequently beat myself up over my playing.... My slap is weak.... My fast runs are struggling....I can hear dead notes as they should sound but I can't translate that in my playing..... I get cross and frustrated with myself!! I practice as much as I can with a full time job and home commitments, but if I'm honest with myself, I tend to focus on getting the lines right for the band stuff rather than dedicating time to improving me technique generically, so it's hardly surprising that I'm frustrated with my progress. However, when people listen to my band recordings, they think we sound professional and tight and that my playing is pretty much spot on. If I won the lottery tonight, could give up work and could spend all my waking hours bass playing, maybe in 10 years or so I could give Mark King or Pino Palladino or run for their money. However, I reckon I'll settle for being a competent bassist. As long as I can hold my own in whatever band I play in and enjoy it and I don't stuff it up then that's OK for me, as my guitarist isn't Eric Clapton, my keys isn't Elton John and my drummer isn't Ginger Baker! But bring us together and we make good sounding music... And surely that's what really matters!
21. What are the weights on these?
22. Kudos to the bloke as he has some serious skills!!
23. I follow him on twitter, he's just back from Australia. He was very helpful to me when I was trying to get my sound right for my Floyd band. He hasn't been on for months though
24. Its looking amazing
25. All my Basschat transactions have been made face to face, and all of them have been wonderful. Interesting I sold my first two Basschat purchases to fund my third I think on receipt of payment I would have said "I won't be able to post until Friday due to work commitments". Communication is always king! In most instances you are buying from strangers and no matter how reputable they are, it does give you a greater sense of nervousness than buying from a shop, so I always think communication needs to be far better to make people feel at ease.
