1. Never been recognised as a bassist.... But used to get recognised a lot for about 6 months when I was a teenage oboeist.... We went on a tour of China, and we're on local TV, Radio and in the press even got to number 72 in the charts! After a performance on Blue Peter I'd get stopped ALL THE TIME but generally from people wanting to take the piss as a said "Mr X (name protected as its unusual) he is a teacher in our school and him and his wife Mrs X arranged it" so people wanted to have a go by saying "Mr X what is his wives name again". Interestingly, it shows my modern attitude even then, as I didn't take hubbies surname when we married . well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it
2. Cool
3. Could be worse Shell, I took my sister to a hospital appointment just after my nephew was born.... The Nursing sister told me how lovely my grandson was and how my daughter would be out soon...... I wouldn't say so much but I was only 36 at the time and I'm only 5 years older than my sister!!!!! Glad it went well even if you could only agree on 5 songs to do. It sounds like the rest of the band need a bit more confidence, but playing will give them that
4. Brilliant Skol and a laughed out loud at the ending!!!! Top job matey!!
5. Modern TV culture trying to show our true value..... God Bless America
6. Fair play to you ebaygonewrong..... Good avatar
7. If I can meet him and he can hand over the bass I'll happily pay in cash the £20k....... I'm guessing he can't though Glad he's been found out, I hate scum like this!
8. Some of the pubs around here use bands as a way to try and get people to stick around for longer. They serve food until 9pm with the bands starting at 9pm. In fact ALL the pubs I have played in have used this model. They expect extra punters to come in just for the band and a drink, but a lot of people will come for some food first and a lot of people that come in for food will stay. Having played to half a dozen people in a pub on a Friday night, it does beg the question how they do afford it.
9.
Ooh yes, delicious! But I don't indulge in this any more due to the salmonella risk from the raw eggs. Not that I do much baking anyway.
Minimal risk nowadays, chickens are vaccinated against salmonella in hatcheries. Eat your raw cake mixture with joy, Shelley
10. Hubby has brought back effects pedals in the case, but we've never been bold enough to bring an actual guitar or bass. Like the idea of taking a cheap one out and bringing an expensive one back
11. Slapping (or so many of you guys would have me think) Ibanez SR300 range (ditto)
12. Agreed, its about time we had another one!!
13. That made some impressive reading! Hubby is a big Clapton fan and really loves Nathan East's playing.
14. Big fan of Ibanez SR basses (have 3!) and Pink Floyd (see signature!) Welcome to the forum
15. Congratulations, but I'm going left field and saying buy her a drumkit.... then in years to come when you are struggling to find a good drummer to work with you'll have your own
16. Sounds awesome
17. I agree it's something you can sing or what you start singing when people ask "What song is that" (although saying that I always sing the basslines and am usually met with blank stares!) ..... Two obvious ones that come to mind are Fleetwood Mac - The Chain and at the other end of the spectrum Deelite - Groove is in the Heart.
18. Just noticed its a buy song.... Can't blame ya When hubby comes home and can help, you'll be having my 50p mate
19. Well I was rubbish this month as life got in the way so didn't have time to either compose or listen to all the tracks before Weds. However, up early today on a day off work and have listened to them all, and Lowdown would have had my vote, in fact I still can't stop listening to the track... It's got such and awesome dance feel... I need to work out how to download it as that's a real "get you going" song. The bassline on it was truly outstanding. I enjoyed everyone's tracks though
20. Not done it yet, but its on our "to do" list.... to be honest when it comes to Floyd effects that I struggle to re-create I either message Guy Pratt or ask my bass teacher to work them out for me, but I have found my Boss GT10b can get most of the sounds I need!
21. I'm on leave the week before that and OH and I had talked about a trip to London at the end of the week, so I may be able to stay until the Saturday and come to this. it would be without gear though, also I'd need some kind soul to give me a lift from the nearest train station probably as we usually get the train to London town rather than drive
22. without question its Gilmour I know what you mean about the effect, not needed to try and re-create it yet as we aren't doing anything from Animals yet, and being a welsh Floyd tribute band, guess we'll need to do sheep first
23. How did it go Gus? How are you feeling?
24. That is interesting...... Bloody hard ...... But interesting
25. I did my entry last month on GarageBand, I plug my bass into the iPad using an interface thing. Great track BTW.
