1. Active basses are hard to record, try reducing the bass a bit , that should get u more headroom up to line level
2.
Haha, well what I mean is that it's sort of missing what modes are i.e. Same notes, same order, different starting point. I just thought it might clear it up as it made it clear for me in the beginning. Of course, going into the whys and why nots was the next part.
right, yes they are certainly the same notes and although they start on a different note they follow the same order. But the whole point to me of modes is that they are chord scales or scales that derive from chords. So if you are going to understand what modes are, you really need to understand them in their harmonic context. Using maths and presenting them in this fashion is just going to confuse a student into thinking that modes are really complex mathematical equations when in reality they are quite simple chord extentions that are just presented in a lineal fashion. i sound like a really boring old git now! haha
3.
correct. music is maths in a 'listenable' format. i struggle with viewing it in this way, because i'm lazy. ..but also because learning the maths without feeling the passion to express, seems to end up in passionless music. solve that equation, ... and i'm 'all ears'.
great!
4. Hi everyone, If anyone is interested in learning what the Modes are about and how to use them , I have a webpage with free videos and lessons. Please visit http://www.advancedbassguitar.info/lessons.html I have just started teaching on youtube, so let me know if these are helpful to you. Any requests or advice are also welcome! Thx
5.
+1, all the recent apple products I purchased have excellent mics. The key is getting the distance right. A while back my mate asked me to come up with some ideas (guitar riffs) for a few songs he'd written. He sent me the songs I listened to them on my headphones and recorded some licks I thought might work into garageband using the mic on my iMac. I sent him my ideas and he used the recordings I'd made for his demo. No re-takes etc, they quality was spot on.
awesome!
6. Hi No I just uploaded it straight to YouTube. The ipad has a great mic, just have to position it not to near your speaker and it records great!
7. Oh cool, what interface did yu use, the irig?
8. Just want to demonstrate the sound and tools of the ipad, which I love! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFCWQcwb8YQ Using an ipad 4, garageband and the built in mic recording a jazz bass 4 string , I'm using an active Yamaha studio monitor as a bass amp. I had to position the ipad about a foot away from the monitor and also I couldn't turn the volume up too much as the mic is running quite hot. I composed a tune using garageband , it's great fun! I like the limitations, really makes you a lot more creative. This tune just uses 2 keys, dm7 -gm7 , I'll let you work out the actual keys Thx for listening! Joe
