Cat loving female bass player? Welcome - there are a few of us around !
Yep, I'm a girl with 3 cats who are all my babies You are very welcome around here
2.
Congratulations Mrs Taylor.
In my dreams No offence meant to Mr SpaceChick you understand Oi, just realised I should be offended by that, it's like you are questioning my bass playing.... Cheeky sod!
3. I can't believe you are meeting John Taylor....... I am sooooooo jealous as he's my hero! When I was about 9 years old I told my best friend I was either going to marry John Taylor or learn the bass..... No prizes for guessing which I did Can I come
4. Really glad it's going well for you
5. Hopefully a few of us will be able to meet up
6. Cool
7.
That's a bit extreme, Debs... I'd just set fire to his wheelie bin. Then when he's out, hide bits of your gear in his flat and accuse him of stealing them.
And you reckon I'm a bit extreme!! Of course, you could just turn your amp up to max and play his music at midnight, and then when the other neighbours complain you can say how it was him, as you've been practising quietly for years with no complaints, but this new troublesome bassist turns up and suddenly it's loud low notes. If all these fail.... You could just be their friend
8. Who's having the bass on Sunday? I live over the bridge, but have been meaning to call and see a friend in Bristol for a while, this may give me the "two birds, one stone" excuse I've been looking for! I'd love to see the bass! I'm still hoping when it can be organised that I can gig it!
9. So are they any good? Do you have competition? Maybe you should think of finger breaking plans just in case..... As you don't want to be second best bassist on the block!
10. Here here! I'm watching DVDs of the X files instead
11. I was in a band with 3 guitarists once..... It was a frigging nightmare When we ditched one with a severe attitude problem leaving us with a more than adequate two, life became easier.... Although there were still some clashes as they shared lead and rhythm and if there was a song that they both wanted to do a solo on, you could have stuck them in a boxing ring and charged people to watch as they battled it out I think you need to find like minded musicians, like other people have said, that serve the music and not their egos!
12. Met Russ in a motorway services to buy his Ibanez. Easy transaction, great communications and a top guy to deal with. Deal with confidence! Thanks again Russ! Debs
13.
Yes Richard, i was amazed that no one had added MK (i didn't because i don't find him inspirational) and presumed he hadn't inspired anyone who had posted but in reality as this is a list of well known British bass players it was extremely odd that he wasn't on it.
I think it's due to the fact that anyone who has had half an eye on the bass relay has ALREADY SEEN MARK KING PICTURED WITH THE BASS.... So no need to add him again
14. I left a band back in May that I had seen "evolve" over time, and whilst I liked the people they were never going to be "my thing". I had ambition, they were more a pottering band concerned more with rehearsing than gigging (not a bad thing if that's what everyone is signed up to). I told them I was leaving and committed into doing 3 gigs we had in the diary, I also offered help in finding a new bassist. However, whilst I offered assistance to the new bassist, I didn't attend practices after I had "handed in my notice" so to speak. I do firmly believe in not burning bridges though, which has worked for me, as one band that never got off the ground has, by association, got us a backing singer. I also had a blast with another band following a recommendation by a former guitarist I'd worked with.
15. That is sooooo cool If it comes to South Wales I'd love to join in!
16. Pino Palladino without question
17. Oh, where in Wales are you? Welcome by the way. I was once a Welsh ambassador in Sarf Larndon but they let me go home for good behaviour
18. Profits and losses I have made have been marginal. I agree, share the love Something is only worth what someone else is prepared to pay for it whether you are buying or selling. I'd rather hold onto something than undersell it, and I'd never want to be ripped off as a buyer either!
19. Well I'll be buggered! I've just been recognized as a bassist. I'm sat in a cafe in a sw***y hotel having a sparkling water after my swim and sauna. Ok admittedly I'm wearing a "Fear the bass player" t shirt. But a waiter just came up to me and said "Hello my lovely. Do you play in a Pink Floyd band" "yes" I reply "I saw you in Caerphilly last month and you were awesome" "thanks" I reply trying to seem cool
20. Quality tunes there Gary We've added 'Time' into our set. That's a fun bassline, rhythm varies a lot and also varies between staccato notes and sustained notes. Good fun
21. I can't imagine having several effects pedals. I have the Boss GT10b and it is amazing, it's also easy to programme when you get used to it. I've never DI'd straight from it though. I always DI for my amp and have my amp and cabs as stage monitors. May be worth an experiment
22.
I agree full song would perhaps be better as it does seem to jump about a bit we do have full footage of the gig but not sure what to do with it all, and no unfortunately I do not own a fretless bass which I know is a bit of a crime to play this song with out it!!
I wouldn't say criminal.... More unorthodox Would love to hear a whole song though
23.
Pink floyd tribute band I played a few gigs with recently, Floyd was not really my thing but was fun to play with these guys and now quite enjoy a few pink floyd tracks, Not perfect note for note replication before anyone mentions and sorry that quality is not great. Let me hear your comments / critisim .
My critism is, I would have rather heard a full song rather than this rather oddly compiled medley!! It didn't allow you to get a feel for any of the songs if I'm honest! But I guess I'm probably more interested than most basschatters in view of my band Out of interest, it didn't look like you were playing a fretless on High Hopes? Would have been interested to have heard how that would have sounded from start to finish as the bass has such an integral role.
24.
Two new things from me - first up an actual 'pop video' for last month's Basschat Composition Competition - it's now a new project between myself and Skol with invited guests - under the name of Dojo - hope you like it: Second one is me and my band at the HIdeaway in Streatham two weeks ago - they have an awesome 8-camera in house system - sound is off the desk but pretty good all the same
Mike, you just ooze quality mate Spectacular!
25.
I think you find I'm Spartacus as it happens Top story Debs I think 72 in the charts puts you top of the tree in the recognition stakes........................ So far
It was only for one week and the song was pants
