  1. Bump for now, will take and upload my own pics at the weekend...
  2. I only had 2 tapes in 1985 - Brothers In Arms and the Ghostbusters soundtrack. Loved them both. I got my first Walkman (well, "personal stereo" because a Sony was too expensive) that year and it was amazing! Now I didn't have to be at home to listen to music...I could listen to it anywhere! Far out!
  3. Been setting up the classroom in the school I work in ready for the kids tomorrow. I brought in my speakers and lined up some Jimmy Cliff first thing and just let Spotify do it's thing and keep rolling. We've all been bopping to banging Reggae all day! I couldn't tell you what a lot of it was much of it has been new to me and the girls here have been loving it. Sweet vibes all day and we're ready for anything now! 🌞
  4. Si bought my Peavey, great chat, great guy, easy peasy sale. Cheers mate, enjoy!
  5. Whit?!... How?!... Where?!...🫠 We both tried the internal site search and Google but to know avail. I did contact ped about it but didn't hear anything back from him. Didn't expect to because it was over the bank holiday. I wonder if he's waved his magic admin wand at it since then? 🤔 Thanks very much!
  6. Has anyone else experienced this? I asked a recent seller if he wouldn't mind leaving me some feedback as I hadn't sold anything for a while and thought some recent glad tidings would be nice. Neither of us could locate my thread! I had quite a lot of all positive feedback on there from my dealings over the years so not great to have to start again! Anyone have any insider knowledge as to why it's gone? Many thanks all, Simon
  7. Indeed. I am wondering if I will regret it...
  8. I imagine that they write and play music because it's fun.
  9. Just out of nerdy interest John, where is the bridge pickup on yours? You have one from an early batch so I'm just wondering if your bridge Pup is really close to the bridge as some promo photos suggest. It seems that now they've moved it further north...unless the early pics were some kind of photoshop skullduggery. Wondering if any Newports were released with the former... As you do 😉
  10. Andy Fraser honk... a very righteous thing indeed. Cool looking basses that I've had my eye on. Great that you have got yours sounding as it should with just a couple of inexpensive tweaks.
  11. Moisture content of the body wood can be a factor but sometimes it can simply be a matter of finding the right strings and gauge that the bass likes. Imho and all that...
  12. Peavey USA G-Bass, the one with the carbon graphite neck, Paul ferro fingerboard. Unfairly though unsurprisingly labelled as the poor man's Modulus Flea bass. Unfairly, because both basses were first released around the same time, so maybe just a zeitgeist thing occurring. Anyway... The Peavey G-Bass has a 35" scale, perfect for BEAD tuning if that's your thing. Unopened pack of XL GHS Bass Boomers 105-45 included for regular tuning if it's not. It is currently well packed for cheaper shipping with the neck and body detached, therefore it can be sent in a smaller box. The bass comes fitted with black hardware - 2 Hipshot Ultralites, 2 Hipshot-a-like unbranded and a black Gotoh 201 bridge (the same as the stock chrome Gotoh). Original chrome tuners and bridge are included. The bass is light and weighs around 7 1/2 pounds. Other than the hardware switch the bass is stock. The preamp is the highly regarded 18v USA Cirrus pre. *I was desperate to obtain a G-Bass for quite a while as they are quite a rarity and thin on the ground as they were only made for 4-ish years. Eventually I found this one for sale in Finland and bit the bullet. It cost me around £630 to buy (I'll try and find a pic of the sale..), and a further £70 in customs fees when it hit these shores. The chap I bought it off is the one who detached the neck and body to make the shipping costs from Finland affordable to me. I will sell it as is for £500 shipped to someone who doesn't mind putting the neck on themselves (I am currently pretty much immobile due to a recent back injury). If it turns out that nobody is interested as is, then eventually I will put it back together and set it up myself when I'm able, which will of course mean an increase in price and shipping costs. We'll see... Thanks for looking. *the pics shown here are from the original seller's Reverb ad.
  13. 2003 Yamaha BB604 in great condition and in full working order. It has the fabulous Nathan East preamp with the mid range filter dial and mids on/off switch. Does some great Flea circa BSSM tones and comes appropriately strung with fairly new GHS Bass Boomers. I bought this from Bass Bros earlier this year and it's Will's photos that I'm using here for now. Currently having building work done on the house and my there are about a hundred boxes of books between my basses and I right now and I can't lift anything myself. Will post my own pics in a couple of days... The only difference between the Bass Bros pics and now is the new gold Gotoh GB707 tuners that I installed as an upgrade. Much better. I can ship it well packed for £350 or will accept £300 if you can pick it up in person. I paid £375 for it from BB which was around £400 shipped to me, just for the record. Thanks for looking.
  14. Very interesting thread! A couple of tuppence worth... Out of all the musicians I know and have played with over the years, only three of them are now actual professional musicians. All three are female. I think that, more often than not, women are more sensible and organised than men and are better at focusing on the things required to get a thing done. Like a career in music. This is only an observation from my own tiny snapshot of life btw. I have a left handed friend who learned to play the guitar right handed and was very very good at playing that Joe Satriani style of guitar. Years later he taught himself how to play left handed as he felt his rhythm was better in his left hand. 25 years on he is equally adept at playing both lefty or righty, however, he sounds like two very different musicians depending on which way he's playing. Very interesting! He writes completely differently depending on which side of the brain is leading the way it seems. He's not a professional musician though, just a smart ar$e 😄
  15. That's great to hear! I hope you continue to improve too 🙏 I've told the guys and girls that I've been rehearsing with that I'm not going to continue with the project. They are friends from bands long past and are just getting back into it themselves with some gigs lined up and are working hard at it. It's only fair on them and they understand. Another pal is taking over bass duties. I may indeed try some shortscales out later on but for now I need to get my health sorted, focusing on losing a few stone and strengthening my core again... Cheers
  16. ...off to Google what the difference is as this one does ring a bell...
  17. My back has gone again big time. I crushed a disc and popped out another a few years ago. Long story there but I recovered enough to get on again eventually. Two weeks ago I stupidly helped our builder carry a heavy window into our house that had just been delivered (when I say delivered, I mean that it was abandoned in the road on a pallet therfore blocking our narrow street completely). Totally did myself a good one - my mind is younger and more daring than my body can deal with now. Lesson learned. Spent a week doing my physio routine from way back again and felt like I was doing great...until rehearsal 2 days ago. Boom, back to square one by the time I got home. It seems that even though my bass isn't heavy (my yammy weighs no more than 8 1/2 lbs), just standing up for 3 hours is too much right now. Feeling quite despondent about it all to be honest. It's summer hols and my kids want me to play but I can't... It's going to be a long mission to hopefully get back to where I was just a fortnight ago. Bit afraid that, because I'm older now (51), I might not. Sorry for the too much info dump there. My glass is usually at least half full but pain is a right pain! Anyone here been through the same and managed to get back on their feet? Could do with a silverfox super comeback success story...🤞
  18. The Northern pickups Mustang offering looks to be for the MIJ 'stang with the wider pups as the covers measure 44mm whereas the Squier CV has the more traditional 40mm wide covers. I've been looking down the Mustang rabbit hole recently and the replacement pickup game is not as straightforward as one would hope!
  19. Nice idea but those prices suggest they've all been inhaling a bit too much Himalayan cedar.
  20. Warmoth do one with the P cutout in the correct position.
  21. To me a Jazz in series is a great sound. I did it myself years ago. Are going for a push/pull pot to have parallel/series options? I did it that way and it's cool to have the choice but found I just left it in series. Realised even later on that I'm a simple P bass guy though 😄 Have fun!
  22. It's a fancy and extra wordy way of saying that with both pickups on, they cancel out any hum. This is how Jazz basses have always worked and how J pickups have always been wound. You will be fine wiring them in series.
