  1. Really pleased with this one (my own pics and a more detailed review to follow...) £340 from Stompbox on ebay using a very handy 10% off eBay voucher which popped up. Great bass! The fit and finish is superb. It's lightweight (not too much to feel neck divey) very resonant thanks to the roasted body and neck, it feels "alive" and sounds really funky. No dead spots, every note is true and clear. The tuners are good quality and have a decent and smooth ratio to them. Simple functional bridge (it's a P Bass) that is good quality. I don't know if the pickups are ceramic or alnico but I'm happy with them. What I'm not so keen on: The tort guard (will be spraying that parchment) While the fretwork is flawless and mirror polished, I can feel the fret end "bumps" (there's no sharp fret ends whatsoever) it's just I prefer a more 45° angle to them, probably because I'm used to vintage basses with hardly any frets left! I've got a chrome bridge cover to go on it for my muting foam to live and a set of TI flats at the ready. More deets to follow next week as I'm working this weekend. Just thought I'd give an early shout out as I've not seen the Jet P mentioned yet. I dived straight in when I saw it due to the favourable Jet J chats I read on here. Same goes for this baby... https://jetguitars.com/guitars/bass-guitar/jet-jpb-300-sg-r/
  2. It was when some lads I knew who had already been in a few local bands knocked the door. They had heard I was learning and that I possessed a bass and an amp. "We've got a gig in a fortnight and need a bass player...want to do it?" "Yes. Cool. Great. Thanks!" Being bowled over with excitement while all also shi..ing your pants is a very unique feeling 😆 We practiced everyday and it went surprisingly well! They were pretty good musicians which helped, and they could draw a crowd. The club was packed. I hadn't even played with anyone else other than a mate in his bedroom a couple of times. I'd been teaching myself by playing along to records for about 18 months and no way thought I was good enough to even think about joining a band. Luckily I was thrown into it. Played out with them for 2 years. Learned a lot. The joys of growing up in a small Welsh town. If you can make it through a song you're ready to play with a band. That's where you really learn. Just by doing it.
  3. Tonerider "The Duke" pickups are the same specs for a hundred quid less. Just a thought
  4. I struggled to make certain sounds. Mostly, "no, I don't need a new bass". 😄
  5. They always were semi motionless in the 90s so it will be business as usual!

That was great! Ain't no day like new bass day. Well thought out specs too. Very cool bass. Fingers crossed for a Squier version ☺️
  7. Sea Shanty - The Pogues
  8. Most of these comments seem to be stuck in the 90s. I've got a lot of time for present day Liam. He's matured well, grown up even, is funny as hell and for a good few years now has been one of the hardest working men in show business. He's consistently put out good solo albums and is always either on the road or in the studio. He takes care of both himself and his voice these days. I'm a bit disappointed that the reunion is happening now as I was hoping that, after his current Definitely Maybe anniversary tour, he'd get to work on a second album with John Squire and keep moving forwards. Noel's solo output has never grabbed me in comparison. To me, an Oasis reunion seems like a step backwards for Liam.
  9. I meant that a genuine smile is from the eyes and face. Teeth? I could definitely pass the audition for a Pogues tribute band. Still got my fronties though thankfully 🤓
  10. Nah, I prefer to age naturally with my million dollar smile intact.
  11. Nice! A very useful looking machine.
  12. Congratulations. It's a beaut.
  13. 1962 P Bass for sale. All original except for the word "FUNK" written on the heel. Pricedrop - £30,000 this weekend only. Swiss Bank transfer preferred. Look, it's me. Honest. No time wasters or fuzz. Cheers.
  14. The main two I'm interested in trying but have never crossed paths with are a Rickenbacker 4005 because Mani/Stone Roses, and a Warwick Streamer Stage 1 because Stu Zender/Jamiroquai. I think I've probably owned or played everything else that I'm interested in.
  15. At a gig once, I took off a sock and rolled it up tight to use as a bridge mute as I'd lost my foam. Worked a treat.
  16. Massive Chew Sets - Kenny Everett
  17. I guess that YT is the new way to get known, have fun and pay the bills. The hours are good and no travelling so you can still have a life. It's not like there's an abundance of sessions like the old days anymore. There's an abundance of musicians instead. Any musician who can do their thing, enjoy themselves and give up the day job has my respect.
  18. Yep, love them too. Been a fan since Mother's Milk. Love the Hillel years and most of every album since. Josh's two albums were pretty good but John is a shaman. Yes they cop a lot of flak but I care not a jot. My relationship to their music is between only me and the band and we're all good 😄
  19. I thought the video he made using shoelaces for strings was amazing.
  20. Plus Hofners sound great for Ska 👌
  21. Right Here, Right Now - Fatboy Slim
  22. Know Your Rights - Primal Scream/The Clash
  23. Write it off as a lesson learned. Move on.
