  1. We Call Upon The Author To Explain - NC&TBS
  2. Just remembered this thread! Thanks for all the input guys. I recently started having a pop at it again and I'm learning it as it was intended - GDAE. I received some great advice which was to ignore everything I know about bass tuning and just learn the tenor for what it is. Seems to be working as I'm getting used to where all the intervals are now. If only I had more time to put into it... It's very addictive! Cheers 👊
  3. I used Roto 66 steels .110 gauge on my Ric 4001 for exactly the same reason. They were perfect in every way (tension, tone, feel) for D standard - whole tone down. Recommend.
  4. I suppose rather than be disappointed, be happy you didn't like it. Better that than falling in love with a particular bass you wouldn't or couldn't buy...
  5. My fave discovery is Ren. Pure talent imho. He's created a smart blend of music, theatre, indy film, philosophy and self help and... I don't know quite what to call it except, It's Ren. All done independently too. Start here, then look into The Money Game (parts 1, 2 and 3) 😙👌
  6. Did you get it at discount already? They're listed around £1300 everywhere from what I can see. Maybe it was a shop demo bass? If you can exchange it for a new one at the same price then do so. If it was discounted for the couple of imperfections stated then rock on with it imho. Do whatever your gut is telling you though. Beautiful basses these btw...
  7. I think the price is the only thing I don't like the look of there. 82 - 84 means it's one of those highly regarded Fullerton reissues I think. Correct me if I'm wrong... Edit - yes it is. So it's one of the first reissues that Fender ever did, carefully built to the original specs of the 60s instruments. So it's kind of like a custom shop bass, but pre- custom shop, and old enough have been worn in genuinely. I like it, it's certainly interesting, but I wouldn't buy any bass that expensive again.
  8. I like the 'Ray looking model. The body has some Wal MKII to it too.
  9. Oops Up Side Your Head - The Gap Band *for those who remember ye olde Saturday morning telly 👆
  10. Regarding the original post - It's not that I was ready to give up, I just noticed that I had one day. Busy family life and a back injury meant that bass had drifted out of the picture. Sold some gear to spend money on the house. No band, and pretty much zero social life meant that I just wasn't drawn to play my basses, as bass playing was always a social sport for me. I defo noticed my mental health suffered as a result too. Now I have an Irish tenor banjo that I can't wait to get home and play everyday. It's made me as excited to play again in the way bass made me feel as a kid! As long as we keep the basic enthusiasm for playing music, we will always be alright. It doesn't have to be bass. It will be all about the bass again sometime, of that I have no doubt. But right now I'm so happy to have a change.
  11. Knowing Me, Knowing You... A-HA! - Alan Partridge
  12. Drop B just means that the guitarists will drop their lowest string down to a low B. You don't have to, as you know, because you already have a low B. Have fun!
  13. You don't. You've already got a low B string.
  14. But the neck is a Fender. Get a Squier decal for the body 😉
  15. Maternal Blame - My Therapist (sorry, wrong thread...)
  16. Looks like the neck just needs a loosen and a little pull to the left. I've had good luck with off looking bridges by loosening them a bit and giving them a little turn to straighten them too. There's always a bit of wiggle room 😉
  17. Weird? Depends who's using them I suppose. Once they're dialled in with the band/room they can be a real inspiration.
  18. Luthier tools to do my own fretwork etc.. Would pay for itself eventually!
