  1. I passed on one similar WAL Mk 1 fretless, with hard case, for £200 in 1990. 😭 Not one of my smartest decisions. Frank.
  2. Welcome Damian, If you want to buy used amp gear you should check here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/bassplayersni/ https://www.facebook.com/groups/Bassistirelandclassifieds/ And our local Gumtree too. Frank.
  3. Araldite or a couple of dabs of silicone? EDIT. Or a couple of bits of blu tack. Frank.
  4. Wilco Johnson's black Telecaster. I think he still plays it today. Frank.
  5. It was made by myself. I have a source of cheap off-cuts (basically waste) of carbon fibre sheets. I know what you mean about the "hook" and I can see some advantage. I didn't like the idea of not having a strap button though. I like to use a rubber washer to lock my strap onto the button. There isn't a twist on the strap if you fit it in line with how it comes off your shoulder. It's the same orientation as a strap button on a Gibson 335 style guitar. It would be just as easy to make an extension with a hook if that's your preference. Frank.
  6. @Planemo That's a nightmare to have such a major fault on a brand new bass, but I'm glad you finally got it sorted. Great job fitting the extension - it really makes the Steinberger a giggable bass where before the ergonomics of the bass were, for me anyway, very uncomfortable. Feel free to use my design if you want to. I just cut myself a template from a Cornflakes box (very hi-tec. ) to check and refine the shape and new strap position until I got a design I was happy with. I started out thinking I would need much thicker carbon fibre. I considered 10mm but quickly found out that carbon fibre is very strong. I hope you get as much use and enjoyment from your modified Steinberger as I do. It's the perfect campervan and small pub gig bass. I can do small gigs with the Steinberger, Barefaced one10 and GK MB200 amp. How's that for lightweight and minimal? 😉 Frank.
  7. Surely that's an exaggeration? No? I don't hear that much difference really but I notice that one costs twice as much as the other!! I very much doubt that there's much, if any, difference in volume, and tone is a subjective subject. The market is awash now with excellent, lightweight bass amps. I think that all of them will do a decent job for the gigging bassist. It's definately a good time for us to be playing bass guitar. Frank.
  8. That's an excellent result and a very good price. I have an Olympic White American Standard Jaguar (with 18V preamp and lots of switches ) and it's a superb bass. I'm sure you'll really enjoy yours. Frank.
  9. When all's said and done if it were me and it had to be a combo I'd be really tempted by the Fender Rumble 500 combo or, if wanting smaller but costing more, a Markbass CMD121P, one of which I owned for several years and numerous gigs, most without PA support too. I still think separate head and cab are easier on my back than any combo. 😉 Frank.
  10. They are indeed probably the best combos on the market. I've had the AER amp one (albeit briefly) and the AER amp two (for several years). I can't help thinking that my current Barefaced one10 with MB200 is the equal of the AER amp one for less than half the cost and half the weight and my Barefaced Super Midget and Quilter BB800 is the equal (perhaps the better?) of the AER amp two. Again cost is almost halved and weight is easily halved. Neither of those are combos though. I prefer seperates myself because I can carry a spare amp to gigs and the weights are lighter and easier to manage. But that's just me. Frank.
  11. I'll have these please if they're still available. PM me your details and I'll transfer the money. Frank.
  12. The EBS Reidmar 750, costing less than half that figure, uses the same power module and has a "Drive" function if you want some grit. I know which one I'd go for.🤔 Frank.
  13. I bought a Steinberger Spirit XT-2 for taking on holidays. It's worked out perfectly and you get a full 34" scale instrument too - not the case with all travel basses. The Bass itself is well made, lightweight, plays well after a setup, and sounds really good amplified. I've actually gigged it a few times and it performed well beyond my expectations. EDIT And it comes with a gig bag that you can carry over your shoulder on the bike. Frank.
  14. That's lovely. It's unusual to see a painted finish on a Warwick. Frank.
  15. Very interesting article. Alex is a clever man. I bought one of his first cabs in 2008/9 - a G1 Compact with the plastic corners. I've been using Barefaced cabs ever since. I currently have four.😀 Frank.
  16. I'd go for the Fender 500 too. It'll do most gigs alone and all gigs with PA. They sound lovely as well and are lightweight. A winner all round. Frank.
  17. That's a very kind offer Ian. I have quite a few gigs in November and December is piling up too. I'll PM you my number and we might do it sometime before Christmas. At one of your gigs would be a good time and less trouble for you too. Frank.
  18. That's eucking fxcellent. 😊 Frank.
  19. I have this one and it works okay with a jazz bass if you position the bass off-centre. https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Hercules-Travlite-Electric-Guitar-Stand/E7Y?origin=product-ads&campaign=PLA+Shop+-+GENERIC&adgroup=GENERIC&medium=vertical_search&network=google&merchant_id=1279443&product_id=18430d1&product_country=GB&product_partition_id=128409233359&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIg-eN2IKg3gIV7xXTCh0TsAXCEAQYAyABEgKZovD_BwE Frank.
  20. Beautiful bass. I've been ACG curious for a few years now. I really must try one. Happy new bass day. Frank.
  21. The TC Electronic clip-on tuners are very quick and accurate, but not the cheapest. Frank.
  22. The Quilter BB800 is a massive bargain at the Thomann price. (£467) I have one and highly recommend them as a simple gigging amp. All I ever do is cut the bass slightly in some rooms. I would buy one (BB800) new and look for a used Barefaced cab like a Super Compact, BB2 or even one of the older 15" Compacts which seem to have dropped below £300 now. And that rig would do 99% of my gigs without PA. For bigger gigs PA is always available. Plus, you'd find it difficult to find a lighter weight rig which is good too. Frank.
  23. Exactly what I would have suggested. The Reidmar 750 is an outstanding amp and mostly overlooked for some reason. A Reidmar 750/BB2 is a brilliant rig that will cover all but the biggest gigs. Frank.
  24. Hey Slappinshambo. Whereabouts are you in Ireland. I'm in Belfast and you're welcome to try any of my gear if you're close? Frank.
  25. In the best basschat tradition I'll recommend one of the amps I own - the Quilter Bass Block 800. It costs about 60% of the Genzler Magellan, (£465 from Thomann) it's smaller and lighter and made with top quality components. It .sounds very solid and LOUD and the EQ, whilst appearing limited, is more useful than I first thought. I rarely use EQ on any amp anyway, just cutting bass occasionally. But really, it's hard to buy a bad amp these days. I just find the BB800 is cheap and simple and does everything I need and more. Frank.
