  1. I find having a pair of One10s very handy. Just one cab is fine for rehearsals and small gigs and both for bigger gigs. The other point is I never have to carry more than about 7.5kg. This is important when you have a hernia. 😉 Frank.
  2. I first heard a HB PB50 at a blues jam. It sounded simply amazing. The only thing that puts me off slightly is the weight. A couple of years ago a Fender 51 RI appeared in a music shop in Belfast. I'd owned one years ago that I gave to my son. It now resides in New Zealand. I always missed it since giving it to him. You can see it here. Anyway, after sleeping on it I bought the new Fender 51RI and that put the HB PB50 out of my mind. They are definitely superb basses though. Frank.
  3. I have a 2010 Jazz bass from the same series and I can say that the Am Std pickups from this period are excellent- in fact, these are just great basses all round! I've had mine for more that 10 years and I have no intention of selling. Highly recommended. Frank.
  4. I have owned a Genz Streamliner 900 but not a Puma. Also, my Thunderfunk is a 550 not 750. Still, it’s my favourite amp of all the ones I’ve owned. The sound is sweet and solid but clean. Whether it would bring something for you is a question I can’t really answer. Anyway, I hope this helps you a little. Frank.
  5. Ibanez are very hard to beat for quality instruments at bargain prices. Even better used. Frank.
  6. I've just got the state pension last week so I've been playing for a long time. I've been through quite a few of the lightweight amps, mostly good amps (still have a Quilter BB800, which is brilliant and a surprisingly capable and cheap Peavey miniMax 500) but my Thunderfunk remains my all time favourite. It's used with various combinations of Barefaced 10" or 12" cabs. Frank.
  7. These cabs are very lightweight and very high output. Don't equate size with weight. You'll be pleasantly surprised. Frank.
  8. I also have a one10 but my Barefaced Super Midget is far louder, clearer and only slightly bigger and heavier. I manage fine with it on public transport. It’s very capable even on quite loud gigs. Frank.
  9. These are great basses. Precision to jazz bass and even more from the active options. I have the Olympic white version and wouldn’t part with it. Good luck with the sale and I highly recommend this bass. Frank.
  10. I bought one of these for my grandson. They're a really good bass for the money. Actually, I'd happily gig one. Frank.
  11. That's a great result. Enjoy your Thunderfunk. They're superb amps and repairable, unlike most class D amps. I love mine. Frank.
  12. I played guitar for about 20 years before discovering that I enjoy playing bass guitar far more. Neither instrument is more or less difficult than the other- just different. Frank.
  13. My one is a great bass in sound and feel but a little heavy. Well worth the money. Frank.
  14. Such sad news. As I get older myself, I tend to forget how old some of my musical heroes are. Frank.
  15. I have one and I'd definitely recommend it. It easily competes with my US Fenders. I've been playing it exclusively since I got it in early 2020. Frank.
  16. Lovely bass in a great colour. I have a Fender PJ Jazz which is an excellent instrument. Frank.
  17. Welcome from Belfast. Frank.

    In Memoriam

I heard just yesterday that basschat member, Markbass555, David Neill, has passed away after a battle with cancer. I know he has bought and sold on basschat so some of you may have dealt with him. David was a superb bass player and a thoroughly decent person who will be missed by his friends and family. Frank.
  19. What a mess. How the hell does a bass get into that condition? I have a guitar that was bought for me (used) in 1968. It's been well gigged and is still in good condition. Foly huck! I'd give £100 for it no matter who owned it. Frank.
  20. The jazz pickup in my US Fender Jaguar has adjustable pole pieces, although I have no reason to adjust them. Frank.
  21. I have one (Thunderfunk) that has been my main gigging amp for several years. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Frank.
  22. That's a fantastic job Brian. The flames actually look real! I love it from start to finish. A brilliant job. Frank.
  23. My Flea jazz has taken over from any of the several USA fenders and one MIJ Fender I own. The sound and feel are right up there. I hope you get the trade you want! Frank.
  24. Yes! I have one too, also strung with TI flats. And I agree, it's a real thumpy bass. They're a different vibe to a split coil Precision (I have one of those too, of course 😉 )but more versatile than you might expect. That's a good recommendation msb. Frank.
  25. Yes! I forgot about the Fender Rumble 15. I had one a few years ago and it was excellent for home practice - not up to gigging though. Good call. Frank.
