  1. If you want simple, toneful, loud, versatile, reliable, light and compact, then I'd second the Quilter BB800. They are also very competitively priced. Frank.
  2. You're not alone. I had the same experience with Markbass several years ago. The difference in my case was I was given an estimate of circa £250. I declined. To be fair to Markbass, I'd imagine all the modern amps would similar when it comes to repairs. Frank.
  3. I use a Quilter BB800 with a BF one10 at quiet gigs with no excessive volume problems and great tones. I also have a GK MB200 which was equally as good with the one10 - until it fried a couple of weeks ago. These things happen, but I wonder if having to drive the MB200 harder than say the Quilter would be driven for the same volume, has contributed to the MB200s demise? Maybe, maybe not. Frank.
  4. I'm going to make a suggestion that might result in me being derided for poor taste.😀 I've owned many bass amps over the past almost 40 bass playing years, and guitar amps before my "conversion" to bass: Mesa, Markbass, Fender, EBS, Peavey, Thunderfunk, (still have that one), Ashdown, Gallien Krueger, Quilter, (still have that one too and it's superb), etc, etc... And it's the Peavey miniMax 500. I bought this as my back up amp fried three weeks ago. I didn't want to spend a lot of cash on a back up that you hope you never need. The miniMax was £282 delivered! I didn't expect a lot, but I was very wrong. I've gigged it three times now and it simply delivers in tones, volume and has a great set of features. It's seems unbeatable at the price but would still be good at twice the cost. I really wonder why there isn't more love for these amps here? Are they one of basschat's best kept secrets? And it comes with a little gig bag. Which is nice, even though its not the best quality. I'm a very satisfied owner. Frank.
  5. Also your cabs are Gen 2. Gen 1 had plastic corner protectors. Not being pedantic - jusy trying to be helpful. Frank.
  6. The answer is in BFMs post above and on the Barefaced website. I think I would be right in saying (unless BFM also has cabs designed this way?) that your thinking above is correct for all 2x10 or 2x12 etc cabs except Barefaced. EDIT: When I owned a pair of Markbass 2x10s I stacked them vertically and found that to be easy to hear on stage and it sounded good in the audience. Frank.
  7. You just beat me to it. @stewblack. The G1/2 Compact and Midget are excellent together. That was my rig for several years when they first came on the market. Wouldn't your amp fit perfectly and securely on the Midget sitting sideways on the (Upright) Compact? I never had any problems with stability although a Thunderfunk amp was the heaviest I ever used. Frank. EDIT: Looking back at your pics I think there might be some amp overhang. I hate amp overhang myself but I could live with a tiny bit.
  8. Excellent ear training. Thanks. Frank.
  9. Haha. Not me though. The amp is due for delivery this afternoon and that will give me a chance to try it and return it if I don't like it. I've still got the option to return and buy yours if yours is still available by then. Mind you, it would be interesting to hear why you're selling? Frank.
  10. They are expensive though.😕 £649 for a 10" cab! Frank.
  11. Yes, I think you're right about the one10 and the Super Midget is probably too big for your needs. (Although they are full range cabs and perfect for doublers.) The PJB cabs are a great suggestion though. Frank.
  12. Balls. I just ordered a new one of these yesterday. Frank.
  13. Barefaced one10. Gawd, I'm predictable. Frank.
  14. They really are a great gigging combo and a step above the Markbass CMD121P combo that I previously owned. Of course the initial cost is high but you soon forget it when you hear it on a gig. Frank.
  15. I use a one10 and MB200 for home practice, rehearsals and small pub gigs - I've been asked several times to turn down on gigs. In my view you might as well have a practice rig that you can also gig if one comes up. I added a second one10 and that is a rig that amazes many people. Frank.
  16. The various Markbass 1x12 combos can be had for relatively little money and are very capable. Buying used would be even cheaper. Frank.
  17. That looks an excellent job. How do you find the balance and reach? I made mine to bring the strap button to fret 12. This one seems to bring the strap button to fret 16 so I'm just interested if there's much difference between the two. I hope you get the interest and support for this project. My extension transformed my Steinberger for standing gigs. And all my gigs are standing. Frank.
  18. I think it's just not a practical thing to do. It would be much cheaper and simpler to just buy a 9V power supply. Frank.
  19. https://www.bax-shop.co.uk/electric-bass-strings/thomastik-infeld-jf346-jazz-flat-wound-long-scale-6-string This is a 6 string set for £66.00. The 5 string set on the same page is £72.00 Work that one out? I have bought 4 string sets of TI flats from this website before. They were the cheapest I could find plus free + quick delivery. Frank.
  20. I can't really comment on the passive SUB but I have a set of chrome flats on my active US SUB and they have transformed the bass for me. It had nickel rounds on it before and, after not using the bass for a long time, I took it to a recent rehearsal - I hated it with the rounds so much that I even considered selling it. It's just warmer and thicker sounding with flats. It's back to "keeper" status now though. Frank.
  21. This is a cracking amp and suffers none of the much discussed "class D lack of heft." The range of sounds is surely all you could ever need and the price is unbeatable for what it is. And it's super LOUD with great EBS tone. In fact, I think you should keep it Kalfer. But good luck with the sale anyway. Frank.
  22. I use cajon bags for my pair of Barefaced one10s. The bags are a bit too tall but I just put my lightweight amps (inside padded laptop sleeves that came with Antler backpacks) and cables on top. That fills them up perfectly. They work well and they have straps so you can carry them like a backpack or like a suitcase. I think there're made by Stagg. The quality is decent and they were cheap. Frank.
