1.
hot A.I.R. technology?
Yamaha are pretty good and make genuine efforts to forward products and production. Not all of these are well received or actually as good as they'd like them to be ...... But dont knock 'em 'till you've tried it.... You may be very surprised!
2. gnb.... A few other makers have tried chambered basses (which is what the AIR is) to varying dgerees of success. You can guarentee with Yamaha that it wil be a good instrument that plays way above its cost.... However wether or not the AIR is what you want or floats your boat, you wont know til you play it and preferably plugged in! Good luck and let us know what its like...!
3. Well they look hotter than a blowtorch flame! For 400 sobs it "looks" pretty good. I'd like to play one!
4. I'd suggest using NEW virgin brown paper shiny side to the PG and an iron as you can control the temperature. DO NOT RUSH. start farily warm and if that doesnt lossnme it up try a bit warmer. dont touch it whe its warm as you may leave finger prints in teh surface.... (naff!) PM me for advice if you need to.... I kinda used to do this stuff for a living....
5. What kind neck is it? Maple/maple or rosewood? and is it lacquered?
6. Has anyone tried the floor stompy version of the Peterson? I doont have and doubt if I will ever have a rack as my Mesa is just to cute to be bound by a rack, however the tuners have the best reputation I just wondered about having a stopm verison instead.....
7. Just a wee tip on your Roman numerals..... VI as you have in your title is 6 not 4 which should be IV..... Sorry..... Have a bump for a lovely that should have sold by now.....
8. +1 to above but if you are just doing a solid colour it doesnt matter that its polished before you spry the lacquer, it just needs to be perfectly flat (smooth) in fact it you leave it with the wet and dried surface you maybe surprised who well it looks. Make sure the clear was compatible with teh base colour your using too as they can act as a slovent it you get the wrong one.
9. As much as I realise there is a market for 'distressed' or reliced basses. Nothing looks as auathentic as one that has just been played for gozillions of years... Taking chips out and rashing nice new instrumnets should be banned..... They get beaten up quick enough if you use them; even if you look after them. Even my prized and beloved PRSs have dings on them, but I know where everyone came from and albethey stories normally of my clumsiness, each ding has a story......!
10. Bose dont have noise isolation as they have an open port. You will have to pay a lot of money to get better than the Bose. If you really need isolation maybe get some proper ones custom made by somone like Ultimate ear. Compared to some that you can buy off teh shelf these are npot that dear for what you get. Mine are very good. http://www.ultimateear.com/
11. Shure E2cs are pretty good but they are not a patch on Bose IE tri ports.....
12.
I was wondering the same
Dont get sucked in...... ! it will be some fatuous reason..... Warwicks are excellent instruments, as are the other German makes....
13. ^ by the number of owners its had it sounds like it is!
14. ^ ^ I nearly crapped myself when I saw that..... Spot on... Having valves does tho' My PRS basses have 18v pre amps and yes just back off the input vol (gain) and play with the bass EQ or pup vols to get it right..... Everything doesnt have to be on 11 unless you are in 'Tap of course....
15. As I have re built my own Blazer and worked on my mates 6 string guitar Blazer, I would be very surpirsed if the T-rod is broken...They are built like a Main battle tank.... I wouldn't be surprised if the nuts just fallen off and got lost! Mine is only 1/4turn after finger tight, so with floppy strings it wouldnt have to be at all tight! Getting a replacement may not be way easy but not impossible. I'd try that route first.
16. Nikki Sixx........ Ovation even do a signature C778....... 'kin amazing accoustic bass (especially without all the flamey bits!)
17.
If it's really stuck you can cut the nut sideways across the direction of the fretboard until you almost reach the bottom, then collapse the nut in on itself.
+1 for this technique especially if you have a finished headstock or lacquered maple necks.....
18. To me, a beat up 30yr old bass is just that....... Now a mint 30yr old untouched collectors piece is, well just that..... Value is relative, I have what I was advised is an 'investment' Fender, but I am seriously thinking of selling it on as it just sits there, immaculate in its case. My being 5hit scared of using it incase I ding it and therefore reduce its value..... So unless you can afford to own them, just for the sake of it ----- to some degree I cant now see the point. So why do some have the WOW factor and others make folks wanna puke........ Fashion, and personal taste......... Just like clothes, cars, watches..... the list is endless....
19. D'addario Chromes are flats that are quite bright whilst new, and 1/2 rounds sound more like round than flats. Either are excellent strings.
20. N, If it were me I'd make a sleeve to go around the shaft, (out of old credit card or similar) rather than leave a gap, but if thats not a go then the top of your 2 optiions is teh better as teh shaft will be supported along its length. As for your Grovers..... bad luck that one... Stay calm ring up and complain and send tham back.
21. Clover are sweet. You will not be dissapointed, wether you get 4 or 5 string. I will be ordering an Avenger 5 soon (and probably disposing of 2 Fenders to do it!) I believe they are that good. 5 string issue, Do you need a low B? if you do then a 5 is worth looking at. If you dont, why not stick with 4? My only suggestion FWIW is if you are changing from 4 to 5 try to get an instrument with the same string spacings and layout and then the transition isn't that difficult. Change too much at once and you can end up in overload.
22. Matt. £10 seems ok. You will have to chuck a big load of trust at ebay as it could be cack..... Sovtek are OK but if you can find Mullard, Mesa or Groove Tubes.... they would be my recomendation(in that order)! Bob.
23.
Charlie Jones, playing a see-thru bass custom-built by Nightingale Guitars. he's posing with it on the cover of an old Bassist magazine issue. he's got a new even-more-see-thru P-style bass now (body, neck, fingerboard, bridge, pickup, machinehead buttons) http://www.crimsonguitars.com/CharlieJonesBass.html
THANK YOU SIR!
