1. But which is best for metal?? Nah, great video! My favourite was actually the Bongo. Surprisingly hated the Stingray sound!
2. Bog standard in ear ones are fine for me. If you're worried about them falling out, there's yet another use for duct tape
3. "besides the CMD JB Players School combo (it features the LM250 black) that will be on the market soon, there will be iBlack Line version of the Standard 104HR (500W power handling) and Standard 151HR (200W) in the future. I agree this will allow to have Mb available to more people."
4. This was posted by Riccardo on the Markbass Facebook page: the Black Line is made in Indonesia with the same quality control tests applied to all of our products, directly followed by our technicians during the production.. The products of the Black Line are not new products but products that Markbass has great know-how as they are in production from years so we can test them with the same procedure of italian production to have the same quality level.
5.
According to the man himself the 250 produces almost as much voliume through one 4 ohm, or two 8ohm cabs as the 500 model produces into 8 ohms! In fact if you think you need more volume than this - then you need to DI into the PA. as I can't get the Master volume past half way - without it starting to hurt me old lug holes !!
After using a 500w Markbass head into a single 8 ohm 4x10 cab for 3 years of "heavy f***ing metal", and never needing the volume even halfway up, PA support or not... I can guarantee these will be loud enough
6. Sounding good dude! Pickup configuration I would go for myself would be MM in the usual place, and P pickup, also in the usual place (but reverse as you mentioned). Best of both worlds then!
7.
I suspect that lack of attention to detail lies at the root of their travails. Best non-apology I heard of was the one posted by the guy from Freekish Blues pedals. Launched his range of boutique pedals. Fawning 'tone-hound' reviews from mags, review sites inc TGP and Chappers, prestigious endorsees (Dweezil Zappa, iirc). Turns out he was buying in Joyo and BBE pedals direct from China at trade prices, respraying them and selling them on as his own work for 10x the price. As I understand it, Mr Freekish's eventual 'apology' went something on the lines of 'Sure, I scammed you because you're all pretentious idiots and I laughed every time you fell for it.'
I remember this, a real fiasco! I actually know a really awesome guitar player who is really meticulous about tone and gear. He uses a Freekish Blues pedal. I can't bring myself to tell him
8.
That really should go in the 'band names ... the hardest mission ever' thread.
Nirvana tribute band??
9. These are lovely basses, and you rarely see them in this colour. If you can post some detailed pictures of the actual bass it will greatly help your sale. Good luck!
10.
That's got me into so much trouble over the years...
You need to learn to go where your legs take you soon after
11. If I'm coming up with something on the spot I will just go with the flow. I might create some repetition if I make something really catchy come out but unless a part is pre written, I just go where my hands take me.
12. Looks pretty well made! A bit "70s" for me but very cool. A bit confused as to why the top half is a 6 string instead of an 8 though.
13. I think the diary is a nice touch for sure
14.
Trying to convince the headlining acts bassist to take it on too
Good idea!
15. I agree, you really must be mad! These are lovely basses. Also I've got to say you REALLY went out of your way to be transparent about those tiny marks on the body, props! Good luck with the sale anyways!
16.
*prearranged*
On that subject: There's a local band here that go by the name of Stone The Alchemist. We've gigged with them 2 or 3 times, and every time we have done, I've been personally contacted by their bass player well before the night to ask me if it's OK to use my Markbass cab. I've rarely had somebody go to these lengths when it comes to preparation and general politeness so I thought I'd "name and shame" haha
17. Sometimes people will insist you share equipment. I will play through any cabinet, but always bring my own head and pedalboard. The head goes in a bag with all of my leads and tools anyway so I might as well! You can usually get a bright tone out of most cabs with the Markbass F1. I much prefer bringing my entire rig though. I don't mind people sharing my cab because nobody is going to turn up to a gig with an amp that puts out more than 800w at 8 ohms! I prefer if people use their own head, but if they ask to use mine I'm cool with that too. The in-built limiter will stop anything getting knackered. I just tell them to leave the Gain where it is, and if they want to change the tone, to use the filters and leave the EQ flat. I've only ever had one person ignore my requests and they didn't get to play it for very long
18. Haha I love how an amusing picture turned into another serious discussion about how it doesn't matter if you use a pick or not. It's been done to death! But for the record, I used to think fingerstyle players were 'better' than pick players... But I can no longer play cleanly with a pick
19. What is this still doing here? At this price? It's a monster!!
20. My current board! Stageclix Jack Wireless > Aguilar TLC > Sansamp Programmable Bass Driver > Marshall Jackhammer > Zoom B3 They're sitting in a Diago Gigman case, powered by a Johnny Shredfreak powersupply with a daisy chain cable. I'm using a Diago Isolator Adaptor to get rid of the hiss that the B3 makes when it shares a supply with analog pedals. And yes, I really do set my compressor up like that
21.
Nothing here. Have you attached a photo ? hasn't appeared if you could try again. Appreciated Dave
The site I host images from was down for a lot of the day, they should be up now! If so, you need to put yours up too!
22. I have mine as the very first pedal, so that it evens out the levels of my playing when I use different techniques. It also means that when I turn on any gain or boost type effects I can get more output if I want it. I don't use envelope filters or anything that relies on dynamics so I'm not missing out on that.
23. Awesome! Can't wait for it to make its way up here
24.
That doesn't make a whole lot of sense, the idea of balanced tension is so each string has equal tension (compliance or whatever) so they each feel the same. I realise it's down to personal preference at the end of the day, but if you feel the top strings were too flabby you should look at maybe going up a few gauges??
Basically, what BigRedX said. Also, for me, I like the top strings to feel slightly tighter than the bottom strings. When I play faster passages up the dusty end of the neck I tend to play less sloppy that way
25. I own 5 Peaveys, I don't think I need to say more
