1.
Ah! The Marshall Fridgid. I ordered one last year, but she never came.
9 hours later, I read this again and JUST got it
Just make sure you put it onto the cab the right way round or you'll be wondering why the top handle doesn't fit the cut-out.
This is the kind of thing I do all the time!
 2.
I always wondered why they stopped doing them. Perhaps Diago had a word with them, or more likely with the manufacturers if they were originally produced to Diago's spec.
Very likely! Though I bet James at Diago won't be contacting Basschat to get ads removed if somebody sells one on here
 3. When I had only been with my ex a couple of months, and she walked into my house to find a big box with the word Markbass on it, her reaction told me I was going to be in for a bad time... Especially when the head turned up the following week She also wasn't too impressed when I went from a 'Bass > Cable > Amp' guy, to having a full pedalboard in the space of about 2 weeks... Or when I asked for another pedal for my birthday ... OR when she got it for me, and I bought a Zoom B3 as well Especially not when I asked for another bass at Christmas that year! In fact that was when she decided I wasn't allowed any more gear, and tried to convince me to start a 'less annoying' pastime when she bought me a bunch of Xbox games.... I ended up buying the same bass myself from someone on here instead! The weird part is, now that she's moved I've bought 2 more basses, a couple of new pedals and a bunch of accessories... and NOW I've started keeping my gear a secret! I've got a good reason though... It's always a bad idea to let a woman know how much money you have, especially if they're your ex! EDIT: Just realised I rambled on without answering the question in the OP! The only thing that puts me off new stuff is if I genuinely don't have the money haha.
 4. The tape option is actually very widely used. I've seen a lot of players with tape on their pickups, including guitarists like Steve Vai and Dimebag... Even I have duct tape on the bridge pickup on one of my 6 string basses! ... Although to be honest, the real reason is because I lost a screw
 5. Yep, the Johnny Shredfreak ones are indeed unavailable. Luckily I got one just before they stopped selling! It's worth paying a bit more for the Diago one, as mentioned above it is exactly the same unit. I use mine to run 7 different units at once with a daisy chain and it is literally dead silent, clean power.
 6.
http://www.ehx.com/products/44-magnum I saw this whilst surfing aound a while back, would this do the trick?
Hmm! Curious... Is that a speaker out?
 7. It does look like tightening the truss rod might cause the crack to get bigger...But I've seen instruments that have had headstocks completely snapped off, repaired to the point where they're stronger than they were before the break! I'm sure a luthier could sort that out for you with some epoxy and a clamp, which will probably make the crack completely invisible too.
 8. I have lost count of how many "I love you guys" threads there are on here. That alone speaks volumes!
 9.
Because they look so damn cool
Is that really it? I agree by the way, they do I just assumed it started off as a practical reason.
 10. I was thinking short scale also, like a Mustang of a Jag. I'm sure with a shorter neck than a P they will be less likely to have neck dive.. And you could always change the tuners to Hipshot Ultra light ones?
 11. It sounds like your day couldn't have gone any better! Congratulations, you've achieved a LOT! By the way, I'm sure with how level headed you are you can handle 2 bands
 12.
Very good, he is really going for it! Some metal bands seem to use the 'technical bassist' as a gimmick. Give him a 6 string fretless, make it look as though he is really good and then bury him in the mix to complete the façade. But this guy has chops for days!
I've been trying to learn it on a fretted 6 string for the past week and I'm only a slighty messy 40 seconds in EDIT: OK, more than slightly...
 13.
Also does anyone ever get that problem when they've just came in from outside and your fingers keep sticking on strings completely killing the fluency of playing? I find the gloves overcome it, and they're only the cheap cotton ones from the corner shop.
Yep. I use coated strings instead to overcome it
I did a gig a few months back in fingerless gloves because I simply forgot to take them off. I liked the idea and it didn't affect my playing so now I do it every gig just for the pose. I've taken to doing one song with a pick and I can;t damp properly with the mitts on so I take them off for that one song - or rather I wait til the guitar intro starts and rip them off for extra dramatic effect !
I did an outside gig in January with fingerless gloves and they helped alot! I felt pretty cool too
 14. It sounds to me like the strings vibrations are being picked up and reproduced much better than they were before! I noticed 'background notes' once I finally learned how to set up a bass properly. It's an excuse to work on your muting, but it's not noticeable in a live setting, or in most full band recordings
 15. I never thought I'd want to be in a cover band... But about 6 months after I left my previous originals band, I got a phonecall from a mate asking me if I wanted to join a cover band with a difference. Doing heavy metal instead of the usual classic or indie rock stuff. I was a bit sceptical, because a lot of the cover bands I had seen live were a bit....ropey... But I was keen to get out and play live again! The fact that I was told we might be doing paid gigs was a bonus as well. After my audition I was WELL up for it, and we gig 2-3 times a month now and it's great fun! I still love doing original music, but it's so much easier to get gigs with the cover band, without nearly as much preparation. In short: GIGS!
 16.
What are these 'sandwich jokes' of which you speak? Please PM me with an explanation.
Not THAT type of sandwich...
 17. Haha I saw this a while ago and couldn't believe it! Very cool The Darkness also appeared on it once.
 18. Welcome! This is one of the few websites where 'sandwich' jokes aren't relentlessly hurled at every female in sight. Oh and it's good for, like, bass stuff too!
 19.
I got a slight bollocking off one of Slade's roadies while helping pack up after a gig in the '80s. I'd been doing it round the elbow & over a hooked thumb way. That's what buckles cable he said (I won't do the accent). He showed exactly the same way as in Heminders featured YT video above.
Oops, I've been doing it round the elbow for years!
 20. Honestly, it sounds like you might have outgrown them
 21. This reminds me of a band I was in 3 years ago. The material was awesome, so was the level of musicianship of each of the members. However, every other practice I attended (there were 3 rehearsals a week) the songs would have a different arrangement, more riffs, or be in a different key. It would take us ages to have everything gig worthy, and then every gig we did, the drummer would get confused and play the previous version of a song, throwing us all off and generally being a bit of an embarrassment. I was a member of this band for 18 months and we played about 4 gigs before deciding I'd had enough. I saw them play on Sunday night, and they're even sloppier than ever! I think you've been more than patient. MAKE THAT GIG HAPPEN!
 22. Peavey Zodiac DE Scorpio It's all stock at the moment but still bloody lovely. Thinking about a SD Hot Stack in the bridge to get rid of the single coil hum...
 23.
Don't the digital systems have problems with interference with computer WiFi?
Yeah, whenever I use my Stageclix at home my internet cuts in and out. Doesn't affect the bass signal though
 24.
LOVE this thread! but, I can't believe we've (only) had '223' pages.. C'MON!!! let's 'ave some more - get posting you guy's & girls!
I'm just waiting for a noise gate to arrive in the post before I do a complete reshuffle and get a new picture up. I've also got pedal risers and a new patch cable kit to get to grips with so that's gonna be a fun afternoon!
 25. Those are great basses, but they won't fetch very much used. Probably around the £100 - £150 mark depending on condition. Mods rarely increase the value of an instrument much, if at all. You'd be better off putting the stock pickups back in, and selling the SDs seperately. I bought a used set of SD soapbars a couple of years ago for £70.
