1.
PS. Wasn't one of Rickenbacker's founders called Adolph?...
Uh oh, I sense Godwin's Law *bails thread*
 2. Interestingly, I bought a new 8 way daisy chain cable from effectpowersupplies the other day, and it's a Mooer branded one. I wonder if they're going to bring any other bits and bobs out?
 3.
The Bass Gallery had one recently for £1750 IIRC. It was #36 of 42 or something similar IIRC.
Seriously? The one in the OP is #36 and they want over 4 grand for it now
 4. £1500 for a MIM Fender? EDIT: Dayumm it's a Korean one, never heard of a Jazz 24 from there... It could be rare! As the great Mark D Phillips said, "guitars are all maybes"
 5. The thinnest gauge bass string that D'Addario do is a .018! You can get them here http://www.stringbusters.com/Ko-Bespoke/productlist.asp?cat=1/SINGLE%20STRINGS/SINGLE%20STRINGS%20BASS/DADDARIO
 6.
I can't think of anywhere on the web where there is so much gear up for grabs
Not only that, but most of it is in pristine condition, with properly detailed ads!
 7.
Liking both products is fine, blatantly denying that they can have some issues, neck dive and wooly etc is the problem for me, Ebmm rays with bare necks get dirty quickly and genz shuttles can be a bit digital sounding for some people, I get it and can cope with knowing not everyone desires my gear.
Totally! I love my Markbass gear, even though my F1 head has a bad fan that you sometimes have to blow into to get running when you first turn it on. It's never failed me despite that! And every single Peavey I own has got something that needs work on, but at the price, and the cost of fixing it it's still worth it to me because they sound and feel great to me.
 8.
I have found Ric fans and ebmm fans to be the worst followed by ashdown regarding amps! Wooly tat
The Ric I tried was played through an Ashdown amp... I liked it
 9. Are you referring to the 'subscription' fee to place ads? If so, I don't think it's so the site can make a profit, it's just to help with the upkeep, since the site used to rely solely on donations. I don't think £20 for a year of unlimited ads is unreasonable at all though, especially compared to eBay's costs! You can still sell items under £50 for free as well
 10.
1. A lot of the complainers simply don't want to pay the current prices for a real Rickenbacker. The way I see it is the bass costs this much. If you don't think it's worth it then buy something else instead. There are plenty of other basses available, it shouldn't really be a problem.
I actually really like them. The one I played recently was so well made, great sounding, and great looking, and had such a flawless neck and fretwork that I would say it was worth the asking price. Would I buy one? ... If I wasn't such a Peavey fanboy then I would definitely save for one! I can understand WHY John Hall is doing what he's doing. RIckenbacker, to me, do have an air of exclusivity about them and it's probably due to the high price, and the availability of copies being limited. I still think that the way the guy comes across is not very good. Doesn't make him look like a very pleasant person, and it clearly is beginning making the brand unpopular.
 11. Such a nice bass! It's a shame it wasn't built properly I'm sure someone will be able to get it to the standard it deserves to be! Very nice of you to give it up for a donation to BC, I'm sure it won't be around long!
 12. I clicked on this expecting something horrible...Really like it! Nice work
 13.
I'm intrigued by the sound he gets on the OPs video clip. I'm not normally one for trying to cop someone else's sound but its bloody good. As for the playing, its OK but mainly a lot of slides.nothing difficult
It's a very tasty overdrive sound isn't it! You could get that sound very cheaply using a Behringer BDI-21 followed by a Marshall Jackhammer on a low gain setting This is probably one of the most simplistic videos I've seen of his from a technical point of view, still really impressed by this video (the playing at least!)
 14.
Ha, Indeed I would! It's all good dude, hope you have a good'un at Mr Chapmans establishment on the 30th..
Cheers! I really enjoy playing there, it was the second place I ever played with Generations. First was The Rigger they love a bit of angry-at-your-parents-music!
 15. Oh mannnn the censoring.. there's not enough of it!!!
 16.
Might be in a bit of trouble with this one. The headstock is visible
Well not any more
 17.
Here's an advantage of the stuff no one has mention yet (I think). I'm just about to set off into Derbyshire for a gig with my Behringer PA amongst the gear in the car. The weight's going to help in this snow (maybe...)
As long as you don't try to go uphill
 18.
even for cakes? (it's a cake, isn't it? I hope so, I'd bite it)
It is a cake! And yeah he still had to remove it
 19.
Not at all, I'd say if I thought so, I'd not beat around the bush, you have met me! Ha! Your sound works well with material you play, very much 'fit for purpose' within the rock / metal genre. My personal tastes are much more modern jazz / funk so our individual sounds probably aren't cross-compatible anyways..
Haha I know Not to mention you'd have had control over the overall sound anyway! And actually I partly disagree! Pretty much any bass tone can work in metal.. But a metal tone will sound crap in pretty much any other genre
 20.
I know you're very proud of your MarkBass setup and glad it works with/and/for what you do however, I just didn't quite 'get' it if you know what I mean.
Are you saying I have a crap sound???
 21.
You're not in trouble, but your picture is. Sorry guys, but you know what reaction to R*********** copy headstocks brings to our doorstep.
Not even cakes are safe!!
 22. Might be in a bit of trouble with this one. The headstock is visible
 23.
As a general label, all the companies suffer IMO. Some Peavey stuff is labelled as heavy and not great sounding, Ashdown gets the wooly thing, Trace gets the heavy and clanky badge etc.. Most of it (as we've seen previously discussed) is based on hear-say or 'a mate of mine said' rather than first hand experience..
Out of those 3.. I love Peavey stuff, sounds great in the mix and solo... It's heavy, but indestructible! Ashdown amps/cabs I quite like too, just not when you drive them as they sound a bit too thin. Trace i don't get on with at all. I live for the clank, but it's a very unpleasant midrangey clank that I couldn't dial out without losing all signs of clarity. The only amp I used that was worse was the Behringer one I mentioned before! The thing is, I've heard other players make some mouth wateringly amazing sounds come out of Trace gear, so a lot of it comes down to how well the gear works with your technique.
 24. On 4 strings I like 4 in line.On 5 and 6 I like em split
 25. Another Behringer thread! It's amazing how (in)famous this company is I was given Behringer Ultrabass BX4410 combo by the guitarist in an old band. It was very very loud, but impossible to get a good sound with. You could turn the lows all the way to the left and it would still sound muddy and undefined. Terrible amp! I ended up giving it back, and his new bass player uses it now... Poor guy! That being said, I have seen two bands where the bassist was using an Ultrabass head through a different cab (including one guy who borrowed my Markbass cab), and it actually sounded really good! It was a very smooth but cutting midrange focused sound. So it must have been the speakers that sucked! My best mate is a guitarist has had a Behringer modelling head + 4x12 cab for about 7 years. They've never let him down, and he's actually never had a bad sound out of them! He sounds better now he's using a Peavey Valveking head but still uses his trusty Behringer 4x12! Their pedals are hit and miss, but at the price they're well worth it. I really liked the DC9 compressor that I picked up for £16, despite the miniscule low end loss. The mixers are very good, can't fault them. And they also do a VERY good copy of a Shure SM58 microphone. Most wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
