1. Here is mine - It took me a long time to decide to buy a pedal board. One thing that helped was I lucky enough to come into some money so I went for a pedaltrain set up, tell you what tho the crazy thing is the pedal board, case n power pack was the most expensive thing of all! Anyway lots of good times with this set up! The octobass gets allot of use! Oh and and I purchased the Envelope filter off a nice chap on here...It went to a good home RnRDave
2. I don’t tend to see many SWR's or Waricks. In the UK I see lots of Ashdown, Marshall, Peavey, Hartke, Trace Elliot (Not as many as in the 90s though) and an increasing number of TC and Mark Bass amps.
3.
same story when I sold my stingray, but at the end of the day you get a lot bigger market with ebay, just make sure your fees are reflected in the price you start at, or the reserve if you prefer (never seen the point in reserves myself)
I found with setting a starting price over a reserve price is people tend not to bid and they are more likely to bid if it starts at £0.99p, even with a reserve (I think it’s physiological). I studied many similar auctions prior to putting my own on there and came to this conclusion. In this day and age I have found people are not making the luxury big purchases they once were so I was not expecting to get top dollar for the amp, you can factor in the fees but I was worried the auction would fail and the amp would not sell (Eg not reach the reserve), its a fine balance I guess, I kind of factored in half of the fees lol! Thankfully though It sold on Bass chat in the end. That is the obvious benefit though, the thoustands of people who will see what you have put up for sale and I guess that’s what you pay for. More generally I think Ebay has gone down hill in the last few years; on a number of occassions I have found you can buy stuff cheaper from Amazon or Play and you don’t get stung for the high postage prices some sellers put on there.
4. Bet they are making a killing! I recently sold a amp to a very nice chap on here, shortly after putting it on Ebay I got a msg through the bass chat marketplace so I took it off ebay straight away and held the amp for a couple of months while the guy got everything sorted. I sold the amp for a little less than the reserve, paid the insertion fees and probably still saved myself £30/£40 as the final fees would have been £50/£60! Robbing sods! I'm def gonna stick to using the bass chat market place!
5. I had a kylstron combo which is basically a ABM head with neo speakers, the speakers made such a huge difference, massive sound! This new smaller range looks good
6. I used to have a ABM 575w combo and I never had it above half way, look into the ashdown neo speakers too, a bit more pricey but they sound so much better! But as others have said quite heavy.
7. I cannot remember the band but I watched a video about a metal band who preferred the TC stuff over Ampeg because the TC amp tracked better when drop tuning etc.. Here are the TC artists http://www.tcelectronic.com/artists/bass-artists/ I would go for the 2x12 / 2x10 set up, that way you can stack the cabs vertically, this is an absolute god send at gigs when you cannot get monitoring (Which can often be the case on the smaller gigs!) as the cabs push the sound at your head, it really makes a huge difference. There is something here about the effects loop and RH450, a potential solution? http://forum.tcelectronic.com/topic/11584/effects-loop-on-rh-450/
8. Have a look at the Orange Bass terror range, I walked through our studio the other day and another band was using one, I stopped to tell the bass player how blummin great it sounded and despite its size it was blummin loud! Take a look at the TC electronics stuff as well, the B range comes with a small BG250w head (With tone print) or a bigger BH 500w head which if you get one cab they will give you another for free, but I think the deal is coming to an end soon. Next is the RH range which is a bit more expensive. Ashdown are a good one to look at as well, although they divide opinion some people don't like them and some people love em, I have had a few Ashdowns over the years and I got a great sound out of all of them. The best thing about all the new "smaller" amps you can buy is it makes gigging so much easier, my TC RH rig all fits in the boot of my car and when set up its very very loud! So much less stress at gigs As with anything, try before you buy, you will find "the one" soon enough Cheers
9. Have a look at the TC BG250W head / cab or combo, you can dial in the tube tone or use the tone print function to get that vintage sound your after, they now have software that lets you to create your own tone prints, I think all tone prints are free, including the software. Your looking at a cost of around £300 / £400 Cheers.
10.
Would love to know how people rate these 2x10/12 vert cabs particularly the two TC electronic offerings and the ampeg. really like the idea of taking less space up on stage and having a modular option where i can take one or two cab's to gig, I'd love to know if you stacked four of the ampegs how close they sound to a fridge
I have the RH750 head, RS210 and RS212 cabs, the RS212 is deeper so there is a "step" on the front when the RS210 goes on top, this helps push the sound at your head. I find it really nice, the sound travels well and the quality and tone is amazing. I think TC have really thought about amateur/semi pro musicians; often you turn up at gigs and your confronted with all sorts of weird and wonderful set ups (Sometimes no set up at all!), this rig enables you to keep the sound consistent and concise from gig to gig and If you don't have a monitor (which can often be the case as other band members tend to take priority) then your not worried as you have your own set up which nobody can mess about with, it even works well when you do outside gigs. It also speeds things up for quick sound and line checks, if your all set up, ready to go and you can hear yourself then there is less messing about with the sound guy trying to get the right mix through and generally less stress. I admit bigger gigs require monitoring and more time to get the mix right (which ultimately means a better on stage sound) but when your doing the smaller gigs, pubs and clubs the back line is enough to get a decent on stage mix and this amp really helps, however trying to get monitoring is always the preferred option. Cheers.
11. Borrowed one of these once, they sound mint on a bass, I dont have any cash else I would be on it! Good luck with the sale!
12. Bump - this sat 8pm, we have done really well on ticket sales and we only have a few left www.roughtwist.co.uk
13.
Sunscreen. Corduroy. IIRC started around the same time and were quite popular within the Acid Jazz scene. They played at my uni during the 90's.
Love Corduroy! I got the album dad man cat, quality
14. I recently insured my gear through the house contents insurance (I'm a tenant) I was surprised at how easy it was and it only puts a few pounds a month onto your premium I covered 2 basses and a amp for £4k, I listed the items and provided serial numbers to the insurer so they are covered no matter where I am in the UK. Music Guard is also good and I used to be with them. They are a little more expensive although you prob get better coverage for what you pay for (I think i used to be covered in Europe too). Def worth looking into with your house insurer if anyone is thinking of doing the same. I'm with the co-op insurance Cheers.
