If anybody is still having trouble with hiss with the Zoom B3 while sharing a power supply with other pedals, I got a Diago Isolator Adaptor today and it's sorted it right out! I was a bit worried that it wouldn't supply enough current (I think they advertise it as 110mA) but no problems here! They cost about £20 which is half as much as the GigRig Virtual Battery! It has a right angled DC output which just about fits, but I wasn't 100% confident it wouldnt move and come out, so i got a PS07 adaptor for another £5. Looks like this
I wonder if this will make you all go out and buy a Warwick Triumph?
In all fairness, that distorted upright is one of the coolest sounds I've heard in a long time!

Here she is! I guess you could say I like Peaveys

I've not used these, but I had a balanced tension set made by Newtone for my 6 string. I found that the higher strings didn't feel as tight as I would have liked. Some people love them but my preference lies in having slightly more tension up there,
some piccies of your own basses would be nice. Quite a collection of weird tunings too. Dave
The more weird tunings I play in, the more basses I have an excuse to own The next one will be in C F Bb Eb G# C#. I'll do a group photo when they arrive!

How was your transition from 4 string to 5??
chrismuzz replied to TheGreek's topic in General Discussion
I went from 4 to 6. Cue lots of hitting the wrong string! Weirdly enough I feel more comfortable on a 6 string than a 5 now -
I think you only get into 'too many' territory if you have more than two identical basses in the same tuning. If you're in 3 bands that all use different tunings you need AT LEAST 3 basses, not taking into account fretless basses, basses with a different tone, basses with more strings, and backups. I'm content having 5 basses at the moment... A 4 and a 5 for one band, a 6 for another, a 6 in a different tuning for another... And a battered old 4 string in case of emergencies!

This is just out of pure interest... I know a lot of fretless players use flats to prevent the windings from scratching the fingerboard. So would coated roundwounds also reduce the risk?
If I see a guitarist with a PRS and MesaBoogie, I tend to roll my eyes in disgust.
I only get this with the basses. They just look tacky as hell
'Fender amps are sh*t, that is gonna sound so sh*t
That kind of statement just makes me laugh. How can anybody tell what an entire rig is going to sound like in another player's hands before they're even started playing? I sometimes groan when I see an amp I don't think very highly of, but I wait until I've heard what the player can do with it before I make any judgement. I hate Behringer amps but I heard one guy make a gorgeous sound out of his! And even if I didn't like it, I certainly wouldn't go up to a guitarist I'd never met before and tell him his gear is sh*t!
I play very light so it is easier to be clean... the down side to that is that I lose volume and some character/tone ..possibly. There are certains sounds that sounds great with an aggressive technique..so we have limits on the one hand and bonuses on the other. On balance, light works for me...and the plus is that I haven't beaten my hands to crap over 35 plus years of playing with RSI and the like.. Roundabouts and swings...???
I never learned to play 'properly', so my downside is I can't play softly without still getting a tiny bit of fret clank. I have to change my sound for those bits!

The only 2x12 I've ever tried was the Barefaced S12T. Incredible piece of equipment! Capable of massive, yet tight and non messy sounding low end. Very present in the high mids and treble so might sound a bit harsh if you're not used to neos. It's nothing that a quick EQ change can't tame if that's not your thing... But it really gets the bass more present in the mix! It doesn't have to overpower the rest of the band either (unless you want it to )
So locking tuners lock the string? I always presumed you tuned up and then it locked the tuner post so it didn't move at all....
I thought that too. Maybe they'll work better than I imagined! A locking drop D tuner would be very interesting indeed...
-
I would go VT Bass, or Zoom B3. Not sure how close they will get to the real thing, but I'll bet they get as close or closer than anything else out there.
-
I just had a look on their website. Prices are a bit ambitious
-
Do locking tuners exist for bass? I've never actually seen them... And if they do, would they still hold the instrument in tune?
-
They probably do get a lot of time wasters, and people who just want to play about with expensive gear for free. But it's still not good form to treat all prospective customers the same way as they could easily get more business by being more patient, friendly, helpful... You know, standard customer service type stuff.
-
I've been to many music shops in my time, and I can safely say this has never happened to me before! If it did I certainly wouldn't be happy to spend my money there. I've only ever bought one bass in an actual real world shop, but if I've had good service I still end up buying other things like strings, straps, cables, fast fret, etc.
No..both apply. Some players have to have a certain sound to play certain things... generally as their technique is quite one-dimensional. or can only play with a certain sound.
+1 to this. If I want to play any melodic stuff I have to roll off a little bit of treble and midrange so that I don't sound sloppy with my aggressive right hand technique, whereas for the majority of my playing the harshness really works!

I think if you want a convenient way to raise the cab off the floor due to it being inches away from you, the best suggestion so far would be a flight case. That would instantly put it at 8x10 height, without taking up any extra room, or being an extra thing to carry
It's got a 3 piece neck with the little veneers between them which suggests Matsumoku.
I'm constantly surprised by the amount of in depth knowledge people here have about basses. I bow to you!
