1. Do you have the neck cavity dimensions ? Thanks
 2. What's the point of Jazz basses ? They're for people who like Jazz basses. Now, as someone who does like Jazz basses, I can see the point of Precision basses but I just don't like them as much as I like Jazz basses.
 3.
I can't fathom out how anyone could think this was remotely acceptable. A quick email or text would have saved me a lot of hassle!
It's certainly a crappy way to carry on. Be pleased you can't understand it - you're obviously a much more considerate person than they are.
 4.
I'm sure I'm not alone, am I?
In doing what you enjoy ? I certainly hope not ! I think it's a shame you don't give bands another shot, but that's only because I get a lot out of making music with others. If you enjoy what you do, then do it but remember that that enjoyment won't go away if you were to try playing with others. Up to you ! I've known a few musicians over the years who play almost entirely on their own, one very gifted guitarist who just liked to learn and play music on his tod...so you're not alone by any means. EDIT: Maybe we should form a nice sensible bass duet
 5. I'd go for three-ply black, like George Harrison's rosewood Tele.
 6. As has been said above, keep it fairly simple. Chromatic runs do sound good when mixed with more scale-based approaches, but I don't think Country is defined any more by its intricate bass playing than it is by its gamelan breakdowns.
 7. There's the Babicz one, but that's still not cheap. I've got the Hipshot on a Jack Casady and Twincam's right....it's such an improvement, but pricey
 8.
I've changed the strings on basses before and then returned them, as long as there's no damage from rehearsal I would think you could return it. Save yourself £350!
I think I'd agree with Mr. Undead here...I'd certainly be trying to return it. It's a fantastic-looking bass tho. If I had the money.....
 9.
Are the statuses still available? Im happy to make a donation :-)
Sorry, I should have changed the ad - the Status strings are now on another bass, but I'll let you know when any more come along.
 10.
Yes, that George Martin was a legend.
Well played that man
 11. I love some Beatles tunes, really don't like some at all. My mum saw them play a couple of times. Um....there, that's about it. I don't mind if people like them or not, it's no skin off my nose. George was the coolest, btw.
 12.
Not only Gong ...check out his monstrous bass lines on Steve Hillages's ' Fish Rising ' all bumm
Now there's a tune to start the day, I might just pop out to the shed for a quick...something... Superb bass playing on both Gong and Mr. Hillage's outings, what a player.
 13.
I walk into the rehearsal room & plug into whatever is there.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcYppAs6ZdI
 14.
Its not at very very low volume but it does make the noise at appropriate living room volume about 9.30 and above on the dial, and the noise is pretty loud early on. Its the new crush 50 combo. Which seems like it would be a fantastic practice combo apart from the resonance issues. I think my gf is a bit angry with me tbh for suggesting it isn't right.
Well, it could just be bad luck - if you can take it back then it back (and keep your girlfriend happy), then I would. It's possible something's loose inside.
 15. I don't mind minor odd in-the-line-of-duty ding at all, I have plenty That said, very few of my instruments have been brand new, so they've always had the odd bit of wear or damage already.
 16. Are the problems there at low volume ? If they are it may be a faulty model...but iff they're at full-bore, then it may just be the limitations of a practice amp. Which model is it btw ? (Oh, and what a nice girlfriend !)
 17.
Great night at a motorcycle club's halloween party last night, good sized room and a stage we could set up properly on, use our PA to its full effect and an excuse to dress up (like I need an excuse?) Lots of compliments after and they are already considering us for one of their rallies next year. Nice family atmosphere for a bunch of hairy bikers, nearly everyone in fancy dress including the kids. Excellent atmosphere. After the bar in the function room closed and we ended our 2nd set they just moved the party downstairs to carry on drinking. If I hadn't been driving and due to play again from 4:30 this afternoon I'd have probably hung around.
Sounds like a cracking gig - love the get-up
 18. I'm sure I heard someone on the Tube say he used to be famous.... Great bass player and seems like a lovely guy, thanks for the video, I'll check it out at length this arvo.
 19.
Quick update, for anybody who's interested.....
That sounds encouraging, it sounds like you're quite into it. Much power to your elbow for the first get together - I hope it goes well
 20.
It sounds completely different. A on the 12th fret of the A string is far fuller and more rounded than A on the 2nd fret of the G string. Sometimes you need one. Sometimes you need the other.
Agreed. For the record, I never let mine get dusty.
 21.
Lets face it, there is never such thing as a 100% faultless musician - even if you had Buddy Rich on drums, there would still be a problem. Aside from him being dead of course.
And the rest, by reputation !
 22.
The reason it's up for discussion is that it can and does happen. The OP is questioning the right way to resolve it because he feels that whichever way you solve it, it 'feels' wrong.
Indeed, not everyone here plays with faultless musicians, so dealing with people who aren't always 100% is the way it works.
 23. I couldn't tell you 'this many repeats' of X and that of Y, but I know how they go when I'm playing. When I'm learning covers I might write them down as I'm working them out, but eventually I'll just remember them. Works for me, but I don't have huge numbers of different songs to remember.
 24.
Those strings IIRC are the same gauge as the Fender ones that come fitted to the Squier VM Bass VI. Changing these to the LaBellas (0.095 - 0.026) makes a massive difference especially to the overall balance between strings and the sound and feel low E and A strings. However you might run out of room for intonation on the low E (I didn't - but only just) and need to upgrade to a Staytrem bridge to fix this.
I've had .095's on it before and found the string tension to be very poor, but I've not tried the La Bella strings. Thanks for the advice I was playing it again last night, boy...it needs some solder love.
 25. At the moment, nobody. Everyone gets back as soon as they can, but we gig less than some so it's not so hard to schedule things.
