1.
Indie styley band with a few punk numbers in there for good measure
Excellent - how much money do you have to spend on the amp ?
2. You'll get a lot of suggestions for the first two (might be an idea to let us know about the band a bit as they might change folks' amp suggestions), and for the third... ...well, we all blag it a bit now and then
3. The Hoosiers eh ? I was their bass player, very briefly. Lovely bass, GLWTS
4.
The Eq balance control acts like a pivot from the centre band on the EQ IIRC. To the left bumps up the upper mids and highs and to the right boosts the bass and low mids (or was it the other way around?!) It is supposed to be a quick way of fine tuning your sound to the room you're playing in, to cut boom and whatnot quickly and easily.
This is how I remember it worked as well.
5.
I will do, I'm also contemplating putting a multimeter in series with the battery to see if there is any current flow with the switch set in the bypass position, just to satisfy my curiosity
A man after my own heart ! If your 'meter has a continuity setting you could take the battery out and see if the circuit is broken when the passive mode is on.
6.
It's all down to why you want to play. If it's just for financial reasons. Yes, it's going to be tough at 63. (I'm 65 next week) If it's the pleasure and experience of playing with other musicians, they're out there and, if you don't mind doing a few charity or freebee social gigs, you'll probably get another 15 years out of it.
Very much agree - I've had to look a little harder for bands as I've got older and I work more with people on projects rather than long-term bands, but there's opportunities out there.
7. The switch most likely just takes the active circuitry out of the signal path, I doubt it does anything to the power. Have a look at the switch - you may be able to see if any wires go back to the battery.
8.
This is great.
Very accomplished, but I find the dugga-dugga cavalcade of ghosts notes slightly grating after a while.
9.
Playing the same as what you have been doing for the rest of the song, only without a guitar wailing away over the top - crowds go mad for it!
10.
you mean vintage
No, Ashdown
11.
oh yeah i know, i was just interesting in finding out what people think is woolly or musical. I mean what is woolly supposed to mean.
OK, provisos aside, woolly to me means lacking in definition and clarity. But not necessarily lacking in top end.
12. I'll agree that Ibanez make some great basses, but this looks like a migraine aura
13.
Agreed, and I'd say the cover guy is probably not the best candidate for a role in an Originals band. They're to use to getting paid. Blue
Depends on the bands, as always.
14. For a start it depends on the type of band. For example, 30 years experience is a covers band doesn't automatically make you any use in an originals band.
15.
How many adverts for 'all female band seeks...." Hmmm getting trickier positive discrimination is allowed i guess
Positive discrimination ? All you know is they want to form a band with women in, that's all !
16. They're not definitions, they're opinions - one bassist's 'woolly' is another's (I dunno..) 'smooth' ! I have no idea what a 'musical' compression or EQ is...except to say that the person describing it so likes it Sorry, not much help but I'd say it's a matter of personal taste and it's best to try before you buy if you can.
17. Terrible way to behave, it's almost like she's some kind of spoiled diva.... Oh..... Right....
18. Ozric Tentacles ? I think I'm having a flashback.....
19. You are 2017's prog thread and I claim my £5.
20. It's a very impressive little box, no mistaking - feed it into a power amp and you're a very impressive-sounding solid-state head.
21. Aside from owning a bass !
22. Make sure you're not leaving yourself idle - not a good place to be in if you're in recovery (I'm 5 years dry in Feb). BUT if you're no longer enjoying it then a change is a good idea. Good luck and stay strong !
23. Beautiful. If I wasn't in the process of buying another BCer's bass I'd have jumped on this.
24.
I stay away from critiquing those that are light years ahead of me. Blue
Well, I hope it works for you - pedestals give me neck ache and I find that gets in the way of developing my bass playing !
25. A very warm welcome
