1. Just looked at their website re. brands: Gibson Brands has a portfolio of over 100 well-recognized brand names starting with the #1 guitar brand, Gibson. Other instrument brands include Epiphone, Dobro, Valley Arts, Kramer, Steinberger, Tobias, Slingerland, Maestro, Baldwin, Hamilton, Chickering and Wurlitzer. In professional audio, KRK Systems, TASCAM, Cerwin-Vega, Stanton, and Cakewalk also continue Gibson’s tradition of quality in their respective markets. Consumer electronics brands include Onkyo, Integra, TEAC, and Esoteric. And just noticed this: Craig Anderton – Chief Magic Officer, Gibson They're boned!
2. Have to agree... they've not exactly been a bass players friend. In Gibson's eye's we're the guitar-players buck-tooth idiot cousin who's happy to plunk away on a short-scale thud machine. They bought and ran down Tobias... And my DAW of choice Cakewalk... and they've un-develped that. And their Victory basses were horrid. Let's raise and angry mob and go burn their factories...
3. How much!? Presumably that's the Custom Shop difference. Let's hope the QC is better than the regular production!
4. Get 'em quick before Trump builds his wall...
5.
F#? Really? Surely, if you go to F# then you're changing the convention of the note physically under (but higher in tone) the C being an F? Please excuse me asking, but why would that be easier? Craig, please excuse me de-railing your For Sale thread. Nice bass BTW.
I agree - surely a low F# (fourth below B or a high F (fourth above C)?
6. Oh no... another manufacturer that obsesses with marketing to math-metal bassists like Dingwall and Warwick...
7. Yes all very well but the music in this clip didn't really use or show any of the Vic's character on the instrument. They may as well as had any math-metal bass player...
8.
Ok first off I couldn't be bothered to cart them all downstairs. The ATK and RBX wouldn't fit either. My second point is I did not choose the pattern on the linen. That is all.
This is clearly a bed not a settee - Moderators, can we have Machine's account deleted immediately? Nice Ibby BTW...
9.
It's all very simple. The way you manipulate your instrument determines the sound generated.
Do agree with this and perhaps part of the 'snobbery' or maybe it's expectation comes from the fact that maybe:

Pick favours single string lines and fingers enable more a string-crossing associated with 'traditional' chord tone arpeggio playing?
Easier to emphasise swing with fingers than a pick?
Dunno - just putting it out there on what I've encountered in the past when I played with a pick starting-out emulating the mighty Chris Squire - whom I later found out pretty much eschewed much of the bass tradition and played diatonic lines through the chords.... I play with fingers now and have much better control generally although matching the precision and tone of Roundabout or Heart of the Sunrise on fingers is a challenge.
10.
Long time back Jeff also had a Peavey Sig bass called the Palaedium . Folks said it was a great bass like a high end jazz with no hum. Might be due to the passive Barts it had. Was $1000 back in 90/91. If you see any videos with Jeff playing a bass like this then that's the Peavey.
I remember the bass and always fancied one but I'm sure they were cheaper than that... Bass Centre had one in one of their big sales for £299 - admittedly 25 years ago...
11.
Jeff also said that a 5 string was useless, until a 5 string Cort came out. I played a 4, very good bass for the money. The pickups and placement make it sound a little honkier when back pickup is soloed, a little darker when front soloed. I would certainly say this can exist alongside another Jazz, an added "flavour" to the classic JB sound.
Well he played a 5-string Tobias on the ABWH tour subbing for Tony Levin but just for the 'stick' songs as I recall.
12. I'll go late seventies for me: Yes, 'Going for the One' 1977 Rush, '2112' 1976 Joni Mitchell, 'Heijra' 1976 Weather Report, 'Black Market' 1976 Stanley Clarke, 'Schooldays' 1976 Return to Forever, 'Romantic Warrior' 1976
13. I think the answer's staring you in the face... take it off the market and give it six months. Sounds like a nice bass so it's not going to lose much if any value so long as you don't ding it. And give into the fun that it is 'five'...
14.
Right here: http://basschat.co.u...ion-index-1-36/
IPB files!? Not the PDFs suggested? Not helpful
15.
Worked out well for McCartney.
I think this is more Frog Rock?
16. Yes (I caught the Drama tour at Deeside 22 Nov 1980 when I had just turned 15) Chris Squire was ace!
17. My Two Note Le Bass developed a fault. Dropped it into BD and got the chaps to reproduce the fault. Unit replaced and sent to me when a new batch appeared from the distributor. No fuss.
18. Anyone tried 12fret plus chords on polyphonic up with it?
19.
Has John just told Julie that he is unable to continue their relationship as she is now too old?
!!!! Lol!!!!
20. Great voice too... think he wrote Starless? Killer crunch P-Bass tone... Asia was distinctly iffy at times though... Think his best playing is probably on UK. A great lost gem of Prog with a hint of Jazz courtesy of Allan Holdsworth!
21. I see he's bagged the ARW gig (Anderson Wakeman Rabin) for a Yes fest! http://www.bassplaye...ming-tour/58780
22. Interesting vid here where the presenter compares a Dark Glass B7k and the TN Le Bass: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rx7_3T9WUJY Not sure I agree with his comments about live use but worth a watch for those trying to decide which of these both great pedals to get...
23. BC'ers, Anyone tried one of these yet? The polyphonic octaving up is of special interest to me? Also intrigued with ability to use the subs for vibrato and chorusing... all in all looks awesome for the £120 mark. Do we believe the hype? Visog
24. Not easy to pick up a fretless and not cop some Jaco. MK had a unique voice. Actually, probably a bit harder to cop MK thinking about it...
25. Those were the days... insane line. Who was the bass player responsible for this and Party Fears Two?
