1. Only 9 strings... don't know how you get by... GLWTS bump
2. Well he went out with a good one!
3. Great artist - always trying something new - some of it worked, some of it didn't. But what a legacy he's left..
4.
I've got a.ot of time for JP. I remember when we all heard 'Got A Match' for the first time and all ran out and bought the Electrik Band LP (pre-CD days). Everyone was trying to play it and everyone was failing!!
I love that album... Scott Henderson who appears on it dis's it terribly saying it was Chick's show band phase where he wanted to reach the masses, but I love all the tunes and JP shines as you say. The extra track that did come on the CD when we finally got round to getting it was a real stinker though! (Naff ballad - not CIty Gates, the other one)
5. Little bit of discussion about John's semi-acoustic (and Thundercat's) here a little while ago... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/258272-semi-acoustic-sixes/page__p__2752507__hl__thundercat__fromsearch__1#entry2752507
6. Rich Tone have got a pre-order page at £799 http://www.richtonemusic.co.uk/products/ibanez_srsc805-ntf_2016_sr_cerro_singlecut_bass.asp
7.
There's Janek, Matt Garrison, Hadrien Feraud, and Linley Marthe that instantly spring to my mind. All from the last 10 years or so, and still going.
Agree with all these names - Hadrien is phenomenal and Linley seems to have come from another planet. Sad fact is I suspect these people make little money and most of it coming from endorsements and lessons, not from original music.
8. Good advice so far... re. the stress point in the previous point, and I don't think it's been mentioned so far, is the importance of being able to hear yourself clearly. A deficiency in the volume and there is a tendency to over-play to make up the difference... Seek out Gary Willis' advice in this area... he plays at high volume, letting the amp do all the heavy lifting but playing with a super-light touch. He has a great exercise where you play a note, reducing the finger pressure until it 'frets out' or buzzes. Almost always, it's a fraction of the normal pressure a player uses. This can be applied to a line too. Takes a bit of focus but worth doing. All the previous stuff on posture and hydration is super-important too.
9. Hmmm... it's not that good I'm afraid... Hasn't aged well but by contrast ST has matured nicely... Wry, subtle and clever. Horses for course I guess but the Wogan thing was just embarrassing. I think for me, Ade Edmonson hasn't ever been funny outside of the Young Ones.
10. Whilst tone is a very personal thing... it is worth experimenting. Today's ultra-clean amps are light-years away from the classic '70s amps in terms of tone, so if you're playing in that genre, you should at least investigate... Personally I find this over-driven tone glorious... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwhMw5lwzNg
11. Off-topic as this clip has frets but further to previous post of 'Rick in Jazz' shock! Here's Stanley rocking a Rick with RTF... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ppUpj90YAFU
12.
I've never tried one (or even seen one) but I remember the bass player in one of Dave Brubeck's bands had one and made it sound very good... if that helps. (Which it probably doesn't.)
Found this which may help... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RhLqb1YFlyM
13. I've never tried one (or even seen one) but I remember the bass player in one of Dave Brubeck's bands had one and made it sound very good... if that helps. (Which it probably doesn't.)
14.
Boom! The truth.
+1
15. That's a beaut! And a monorail bridge... normally hipshot... Not sure what another Spitfire will get you.. unless its got more/less strings, frets, etc?
16. It's a beaut!... although on your 2nd photo, the 'G' string looks awfully close to the edge of the neck?
17.
Totally different filters - the OP is after a sweepable low pass filter to make wah-wah and womp-womp noises rather than a high pass filter designed to cut out subsonic rumble. However, something like a Thumpinator might be worth putting after the filter (as well as a limiter maybe) if you are doing some crazy resonant sweeps down low!
Sorry I got my filters the wrong way round.
18.
Joe Strummer went to boarding school...
As a Yes fan in the punky class-war days, this always riled me. Yes and Prog were accused of being middle-class where as Punk more earthy and the voice of the working class. Ironically, Joe Strummer had quite a privileged background as the son of a diplomat where as Jon Anderson was the son of a milkman.... Pulp's, classic lyric springs to mind, "If you call your Dad he could stop it all."
19. Oh great... like we need more ukelele... Go find Ukechat, whilst we argue that Sid Vicious was better than Jaco, etc...
20. It is impressive... and I wish I could do that, etc. BUT perfect pitch can be curse... people who have sometimes lose it. Some people with it can't bear to hear music with elements that are a little out of tune... (inc. guitar and bass which are approximations of varying levels). And finally, this is ultimately just a trick. It doesn't mean a thing until that kid is older and making music we can all enjoy. Then it's time to be impressed. Good luck to him, at the very least he's going to find piano playing and music arrangement and producing a breeze so he's got a whole musical career laid out for him.
21. I'll ignore your disgusting crime of posting a blatantly 'bass guitar' thread in 'General' and say that you can probably find the information you need here: http://www.statii.com/ P.S. I have the twin pick-up Shark pro-active... in a lovely tobacco sunburst...
22. Yep - Goodfellow basses.... http://www.gbguitars.co.uk/gb_00s_innovations.asp#gb_spot
23. He had the look and the attitude for Punk but he could barely play and he admitted to throwing a bottle at a gig which blinded a women in one eye. That's before he escalated to murder. He was really a thug along for the ride - the puppet of McLaren. So.. I recognise the importance of the Sex Pistols but as an artist in his own right... nah. (*Although I did quite like his version of 'My Way' in NMTB... probably the only time he actually appeared on a record - singing or playing)
24. Bit of newb in this area.... what's the difference between the Future Impact and say a SY300 at £500? Seems the latter has much more editing optons or am I missing something? (Or comparing apples and oranges?)
25. Many of the Sansamp pedals feature a low pass filter - sometimes called that, sometimes 'Rumble filter' and on the VT Bass DI, it's part of the 'Bite' function. Also the Radial Bassbone pedals have this feature. I think as an adjustable high pass filter. Worth checking out as you'd also get their DI, distortion and other features.
