A lovely prog-tastic Christmas song. Shame it wasn't a hit. It does sound like 'FOoW' - probably because of the strings by the same arranger (Andrew Pryce Jackman), the joyous absence of guitar, outrageous up-mixing of his bass and of course Chris' great voice.

And what an awful flappy tone it was... A mystery as Wal's can sound absolutely great, and Geddy can sound great, c.f. Moving Pictures bass tones on Rick and Fender but Ged + Wal + 80s production = flap!

Looks like Ibanez are responding to the Sire/Cort competition in this ergo/headless form factor space with a cheaper EHB line: https://www.ibanez.com/usa/products/detail/ehb605_1p_01.html Thinks it's mostly the electronics where they've taken cost out.

I admire you faith in the producer's intent in finding the objectively-best players. I'm confident none of these players will be mentioned. The criteria will almost certainly be 'World's Greatest Basslines (your Mum would recognise)' -
Oh wow! Nate Navarro putting it through its paces... What an interesting bass. Sounds great.

🤯OMG! That's up there with an Ibby Thundercat. Is this the most expensive Ibanez bass?

Mods! Double post sorry! Please delete this one. Thanks Mods

Not seen any mention of this rather stunning bass from Ibanez. Looks like a custom shop jobby so probably only going to trouble Elon Musk's accountant. But it's a looker no doubt. Deets here: https://www.ibanez.com/usa/news/detail/20250829113531.html

So some great suggestions for remembering AJ's brilliance. I liked the Michel Camilo and Hiromi stuff playing with piano and, in the former case, a Latin situation. In contrast, and to show AJ's range and adaptability, here is a high quality video of AJ in a guitar trio setting with the ultra textural and improvisational Wayne Krantz.

Suzanne Vega... very good but no bassist. Cellist instead.

Sad news. Couple of my favourites not seen pop up in the threads yet: David Sanborn, 'Tin Tin' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Awy5SxjBQr0&list=RDAwy5SxjBQr0&start_radio=1 Steve Kahn, 'Modern Times' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXfdOJg3d-0&list=RDPXfdOJg3d-0&start_radio=1 Al Di Meola, 'Song to the Pharoah Kings' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BiOeA3FpGvA&list=RDBiOeA3FpGvA&start_radio=1 Monster player

Permanent Waves tour my first Rush concert too! Deeside Leisure Centre for me. (Or as Geddy pronounced it, 'Leezure'. To be fair, back them we called him, 'Jeddy'.)

I think Paul McCartney pushed the 'go' button for them at the Taylor Hawkins shows. I thought they'd go with Mike Pourtnoy! But it's not! And they're getting a keyboard player!

Sensing @Cornwall Steve's GAS is nearing critical levels. I'll try and push it over the edge - form factor which I bang on about with EHB's like these are that I never get back or shoulder problems and the passive mode on my (Ibby) EHB means I never run out of battery after hours in front of the DAW. Also, the price is good on the Sire being £200+ cheaper for the 6er than my Ibby. (I've had it for a couple of years though.) Plus I like playing chords on a bass - there I've said it! And they sound glorious on a 6er.
-
Full disclosure - I haven't played one but based on the Namm videos and Johnny Dibble's recent video reviewing a 5er in this series, as well as the broader hype about Sire, I'd have no worries on quality. That said, I'd be more alert to whether the form-factor works for you. I have a similar Ibanez EHB 6er and it's probably the multi-scale aspect you need to try to see if it works for you. Particularly, if you like the dusty end for chords and soloing as it is a different experience taking some getting used to. Around the 8-12 fret it's not very different and at the low end, a boon albeit some stretching required.

These do look interesting... Love the form factor of my EHB 6er. Would love to have a play to assess the multi-scale curvature and the sound of course. Look great too:

Reports of workers laid off... rumours of a Fender buy out which would be ironic. Shame if true - lovely basses. Sign of the times I guess?

A somewhat unlikely combination of players and song but here you go! (I'm reminded Jeff did sub for Tony Levin on the ABWH UK tour.) Enjoy...

Fair enough! I did not see this. I agree with your latter point that it's a first edition with a production run coming later.
-
Really? You don't go to a show to sell 12. He'd do that on reputation alone. He also says in the video that this is the production model. What's you basis for this?

How much!? *Monocle falls out of eye!*
-
It does! Or a Minecraft bass but it's still kind of cool!

Wow! A Steinberger 6-string with fan frets and a ramp. Looks great - probably will cost a fortune. Sans headstock haters chime in! Those without back pain enjoy! Video on 'Bass the World's facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/basstheworldcom
