'Form ever follows function'! These are great, handy basses whose tone belies their compact size and weight. I have the 6-er and it's great. The multi-scale helps even the tone and tension of the strings but I have to say, other than around the 5-8 frets, I find it disorientating, particularly in the upper registers when the multi-scale gets extreme. This negative effect can be greatly reduced with good practise in not looking at the fretboard when playing. That said, I'm not entirely sure I'd have a bass with it again unless they did a less extreme multi-scale, say, like their 'Q' series guitars.

Always wanted a Palaedium. They were cheap as chips as I recall but a nice bass. Jeff Berlin designed or inspired?

I've got one too. Use it as my sound interface/card and for a bit of limiting. Programming on is a breeze on a PC although the levels and multiple gains over an effect-chain can quickly get out of hand/noisy. The public sound library I think still only has two contributions from Boss artists. Both terrible. As is the tracking on pitch-shifting and the tuner. So a bit of a mixed feast with some quite distinct positives and negatives. ** Edit my comments refer to a GT-1B not 10B sorry **

Taking awhile for these to roll out it seems. Looks like £280 mark price wise. Looking forward to trying one.

There's loads for me but it's usually more about the musical setting they're in which makes me like them/not like them. So I'm into prog which means I love the usual suspects but I don't particularly like soul music (Heresy!) so I don't particularly like a stellar list of classic bass players who I acknowledge are great musicians but I they just don't speak to me. Don't have a cow. Just go with what you like. Give respect where due to what you don't like but what is objectively good. For the record and the thread, I'm all in with Jaco - whether solo, with Weather Report or Joni and Victor who's rhythmic concept, regardless of the theatrics, is deep! Witness his gigs with Mike Stern a couple of weeks ago. Relatively little flash - just canyon-wide pocket.

Larger than life character... Played with everyone. Dominated the Warwick bass channel with his intro for many years. A nice guy by many accounts of his appearances at the London Bass Guitar show.

I win this week! Mike Stern at Birdland, NYC. Great gig with his wife Leni, Bob Franceschini who I'd not hear of, but was awesome on sax... but then we had the rhythm section... only Dennis Chambers on drums and Victor on bass! Great gig - Mike on top form and eviscerated by Vic and Dennis.

I think it sounds ok, good with new strings but I do take your point - there's a lot you can do with the active circuit. That said, the passive mode is a lifesaver (battery-saver) for me as I spend loads of time noodling on my DAW when I'm using the bass. Edit: Yes, the new finishes look great... I've got the Chad Valley 'My First Guitar - silver sparkle' finish which is the worst in the range but I don't care, my EHiBby is my 'lighter than air' beater and it's great.

Not sure that's right. Maybe for the B3n unit, it's non-proprietary software but the GT-1B is official Boss software and very good. However @Bleat is correct in that the synth sounds are dire - or I think, sound good but the tracking is awful so either way, unusable.

@Diew919, There's very little coverage of this unit on the Net and even from Boss themselves - only 3 contributors to the online library and their patches are frankly terrible and unusable with hugely varying levels. I suggest you search instead for coverage of its guitar brother, GT-1 which has some helpful videos. I'd also just try experimenting yourself with the Tone Studio editor - it's quick to trial different effects chains, parameters and pedal orders. Finally, I've not had much success with the Pre-amps which all make the sound 'boxy'. Would love to hear from anyone who's made progress with these?
