    Two compressors

So two compressors in series? Interesting. That's, I think more unusual than the parallel signal path dual compressor route. Some sound clips would be good?
  2. Multi-FX are getting cheaper. No dedicated bass patches but worth a squirt and a bit of editing surely?
  3. You're quite right but I enjoy researching new pedals. I'll add another crossover but this has individual compressors for each path: https://reverb.com/uk/item/81597731-pjb-phil-jones-bass-x2c-dual-band-compressor-crossover
  4. Ooh! Not seen that one before...
  5. ...is a phrase I didn't expect to read! Good input though thank you.
  6. BC'ers, Hankering to try signal splitting ah la Squire, Sheehan and others to combine clean and dirt signals or paths with different compression and effects. I know the top-end multi-FX can split their signals for separate effects processing before recombining them but I wondered if any of you have had success doing this with any of the new budget units appearing? (I know the Boss LS2 is always an option but a) I don't have all the pedals I'd need and b) I'd like to try splitting the signal by frequency as opposed to having two 'full-range' signals if possible.) Thoughts? Experiences?
  7. Yes, great interview and he seems such a cool guy - probably why he's got so many (good) gigs over the years. Here's hoping the Beat tour makes it over to here in the UK next year.
  8. Gene Simmons vibe about it...
  9. 'Form ever follows function'! These are great, handy basses whose tone belies their compact size and weight. I have the 6-er and it's great. The multi-scale helps even the tone and tension of the strings but I have to say, other than around the 5-8 frets, I find it disorientating, particularly in the upper registers when the multi-scale gets extreme. This negative effect can be greatly reduced with good practise in not looking at the fretboard when playing. That said, I'm not entirely sure I'd have a bass with it again unless they did a less extreme multi-scale, say, like their 'Q' series guitars.
  10. Nice reveal in the photo order. That's an unusual one but looks great.
  11. That's a 'no excuses' bass! There's no way that's holding you back so it's all up to you!
  12. Always wanted a Palaedium. They were cheap as chips as I recall but a nice bass. Jeff Berlin designed or inspired?
  13. I've got one too. Use it as my sound interface/card and for a bit of limiting. Programming on is a breeze on a PC although the levels and multiple gains over an effect-chain can quickly get out of hand/noisy. The public sound library I think still only has two contributions from Boss artists. Both terrible. As is the tracking on pitch-shifting and the tuner. So a bit of a mixed feast with some quite distinct positives and negatives. ** Edit my comments refer to a GT-1B not 10B sorry **

    Phil Jones X2C

Taking awhile for these to roll out it seems. Looks like £280 mark price wise. Looking forward to trying one.
  15. Ooh he was great! Just watching him paired with Bill Bruford for David Torn earlier:

    Phil Jones X2C

Taking a little while for this to roll out with the promo and reviews but here's a new one:

    Phil Jones X2C

Major GAS for this: https://www.bassgearmag.com/step-into-x2c-with-phil-jones-bass-dual-compressor-effects-loop/ All sorts of dual signal bi-amp goodness post-compressor...
  18. Manufacturer? Country of manufacture? Planet? Designer?
  19. Erm... Interesting. Ibanez on a roll in this territory with EHB's though eh?
  20. Not massively impressed TBH...
  21. There's loads for me but it's usually more about the musical setting they're in which makes me like them/not like them. So I'm into prog which means I love the usual suspects but I don't particularly like soul music (Heresy!) so I don't particularly like a stellar list of classic bass players who I acknowledge are great musicians but I they just don't speak to me. Don't have a cow. Just go with what you like. Give respect where due to what you don't like but what is objectively good. For the record and the thread, I'm all in with Jaco - whether solo, with Weather Report or Joni and Victor who's rhythmic concept, regardless of the theatrics, is deep! Witness his gigs with Mike Stern a couple of weeks ago. Relatively little flash - just canyon-wide pocket.
  22. Larger than life character... Played with everyone. Dominated the Warwick bass channel with his intro for many years. A nice guy by many accounts of his appearances at the London Bass Guitar show.
  23. I win this week! Mike Stern at Birdland, NYC. Great gig with his wife Leni, Bob Franceschini who I'd not hear of, but was awesome on sax... but then we had the rhythm section... only Dennis Chambers on drums and Victor on bass! Great gig - Mike on top form and eviscerated by Vic and Dennis.
  24. I think it sounds ok, good with new strings but I do take your point - there's a lot you can do with the active circuit. That said, the passive mode is a lifesaver (battery-saver) for me as I spend loads of time noodling on my DAW when I'm using the bass. Edit: Yes, the new finishes look great... I've got the Chad Valley 'My First Guitar - silver sparkle' finish which is the worst in the range but I don't care, my EHiBby is my 'lighter than air' beater and it's great.
