1.
Looks like a fish. So it's great if you like fishie, I guess.
A fish's egg sack is what I got... mermaids purse... baby shark. Probably work well with evil clown mask.
2. Coo that's nice... Sproingy sound. I wonder how well it balances on a strap though?
3.
My Ultra should be with me tomorrow, man the wait has felt long
Think you're referring to the B7K ultra, which looks (sounds) pretty awesome but I'm referring to the Vintage Deluxe Ultra predicted for more Rock rather than Metal tones... Good luck to all of you with the B7K Ultras landing about now... All the DG stuff sounds great..... (except the compressor SS which I can't hear the difference for at all in any of the demos?) Visog
4.
You may enjoy this post about a visit I made last week to Darkglass, including a 20 minute interview with Doug Castro. http://basschat.co.u...-february-2016/
Good video... seems a nice place to work... Still not clear on plans for a Vintage Deluxe Ultra though?
5. Importantly, can you get a tone close to your Avatar?
6. Cool... what's it like? How does it compare to your VT DI in tone, etc?
7. Or get the Two Notes Le Bass.... choices, choices...
8.
There's an Ultra version of the Vintage planned for April release too.
Anyone heard any update on this? I was surprised as they've just released the deluxe. Will probably hang-on for the ultra...
9. Oh man GAS building... but I also was severely interested in a Darkglass Vintage Deluxe. Anyone care to comment on the crunch tone of these units?
10.
Hey Visog, Ashdown, thanks for responding... I'll skip the biscuit jokes > Sorry to hear about your disappointment with the B Social. We don't seem to have had an email from you over the past couple of weeks so not sure what has happened there... Yes not an e-mail - your web-form on the tech support page here: http://ashdownmusic....port/technical/ > However first thing we would say is that the B Social is quite a complex bit of kit Then it needs a comprehensive manual. > and the fact that you state that you owned the unit for 'two days' is a bit of a worry And couldn't get a good sound out of my main bass. > is a bit of a worry as we don't think that is really enough time to get to grips with everything... Maybe so for all the features but unless a basic strong sound is available with a little input level tweaking, I'm not sure it's viable (for me at least). > As regards your high output bass this is very odd as we have tested with countless basses over the past year or so including our 18v Status and Doug Wimbish's 9v Spector more recently with no problems at all. The active input is -15db compared to the passive input which should negate any high output issues. Are you saying even using the Active input its clipping on the front end regardless of input gain? Not regardless of input gain, but turned so low as to be very quiet and considerably quieter than low output basses. > AppTek works perfectly and has been a feature on a number of our amps for around 3 years. Did you spend some time to set the app up correctly as this is critical? No as there was no guidance in the manual that this was necessary, what constitutes 'correctly', or how to go about it. > There are a lot of parameters to set/play with and if this isn't done then the results won't be great. Put this in the manual or on a support page for the product then. Oh and train your sales partners to alert potential customers to this too. > First of all there is per saved set up an input level gain and output level that will need to played with to get the best out of things depending on the bass being used/amp sim chosen/fx etc. Once this is set and all is nice and clean/clear you can then adjust volumes on the actual B Social etc. It is also vital that you set the 'Noise and feedback filter' off to remove latency also turn off the 'adjust to prevent feedback' setting as well. Once again this needs to be made clear. Have I missed this in your instructions somewhere? > 'amp cab variants just providing different levels of boominess - even their own Ashdown models' - again can only suggest things weren't quite set up correctly as there shouldn't be any 'boominess'. Using the EQ within the app and setting the B Social fairly flat should remove any 'boominess' pretty easily(Also turning off the filters I previously mention will help too. Well I know that now... Also, it would be a nice gesture to give a code for at least one Ashdown amp/cab in the Agile software. Having to lay-out another £13.50 for an Ashdown simulation for an Ashdown product you've paid £600 a bit much. > If you wanted to pop down and see us in Essex for a couple of hours one day we will happily go through everything with you in person That is a genuinely kind offer but I'm based in the North-West it's not such an easy trip to make. > bring your basses/Ipad/chocolate biscuits etc and we think that within a few mins you would have a different view on things. We know you've already returned your unit but you can come and have a play on ours and if your mind was changed enough you may decide to give one another go... As I say, a kind offer. > Check out the B Social videos that we did with Doug Wimbish on our YouTube channel, there was no tricks, no post production etc on any of the B Social videos and despite using a fairly high output bass there is no boominess or latency issues when using AppTek sims and FX.... Ashdown! I did which is why one of the reasons I bought it. I suggest your very next step is to film a 'setting up your B-Social/apptek' video to help your potential customers (after me) get the best from this unit. > Anyways let us know if you could pop down and see us as it would be great to be able to go through everything with you in person if we could...
As I say, thank-you for a kind offer and your response. I'd ask you to check your tech support form is working OK.. I'd update your set-up instructions for input levels and especially the apptek app with parameters you mention, and finally consider the set-up video. And a B-Social specific FAQ on your site. Bravo for speaking up and responding... (I've added my responses inside the quoted post from earlier.)
11. So I was the proud owner of a B-Social for two days for last week... Couldn't get on with it. Seemed to work OK with my lower output basses but it couldn't cope with the 2x9v preamp in my GB giving it a noticeably lower volume despite dialling down the input gain and using the master vol. The Apptek modelling was a joke with an audible delay between playing and hearing the effected signal. And the amp cab variants just providing different levels of boominess - even their own Ashdown models. The unit played audio OK but in the end that was all I was getting for £600 and my iPad docking station is better with more bass and sound spread but costing < £100. And despite me sending a desperate support plea to Ashdown via e-mail via their website, I've had no reply. Not sure this product and the appkit are ready for the market. Suggest anyone interested in this unit test it very carefully first, including the apptek which I know is difficult in the shop but do it. All of this might be me being picky but I'm not sure it is? (Many thanks to PMT Manchester for their support and understanding throughout this episode!)
12. Dawsons have the Rowin Octpus for under a nifty... does one 8va down, up or 16va up
13. These look pretty natty... any tried one yet? Look to be retailing at £220ish. Not bad for all the features...
14. Steve Bailey used to endorse them I think... I know this doesn't really narrow down the field much (*coughs Aria Fender Warwick*) but they seemed to be an early candidate for good quality production 6ers... Not sure I ever saw a 4 or 5?
15. She seems nice on her Scott's Bass Lesson video... hate the Jennifer Batten-esque mahican hair many female players feel they have to do...
16. Basschatters, Any thoughts on the Line 6 Amplifi Fx100 and it's effects chain possibilities (i.e. 3 delays) vs. say the TC Flashback triple? Would be interested in your views... visog
17.
Slightly bizarre when Mr Berlin has spent years telling everyone who'd listen how unnecessary 5-string basses are! Does look nice though, and I am tempted by the 4
I've heard him say this too but he saw fit to bring a fiver on the ABWH tour to cover Tony Levin's parts. (A Pedulla by recollection.) Fact is he says an awful lot and proceeds to bash out a sour chorused toned barrage of seventh chord tones over standards that were popular 50 years ago. I don't doubt his capability, I just think he's stuck in a time warp (at least as a leader - loved his stuff with Bruford, Holdsworth and McLaughlin)
18. Hard to compare as there isn't a level playing field - The Who were very different to Yes. The Who's song-writing dominated by Pete Townsend where as classic Yes was a more varied mix of writers from the band. (Interestingly in later Yes when dominated by Trevor Rabin, Squire adopts a more traditional bass role.) Anyways much as I love JE, he was mainly a pentatonic 4/4 guy (which he absolutely made the most of 'Real Me' anyone?) where as Squire was full major scale/modal part player, probably inspired from his choir-boy roots... And he had a sublime tone. And a gift for melody. And a great voice. And he was a good song-writer.... 'Onward' cover currently featured in soundtrack of Michael Caine's new film 'Youth'.
19. I also doubt the "cost a fortune to sign" point... TH spotted them on the Tube whilst mixing one of the later Yes albums... they were just a scouse club act... can't imagine there was much of a bidding war going on over them.

Best looper?

Thanks for the advice all... went for a Ditto X2 in the end. (I realise for the Frippertronics/ambient I'll have to add a couple of delays later: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwyiN3wF2_Q) but for the time being, I'm trying to learn the knack of starting and stopping on time! Not as easy as these YouTubers make out but fun trying...

Best looper?

Bass-chatterers, Could I get some recommendations for a good looper? I know these things are very subjective but a few suggestions would be a start. I'd like to be able to add and delete voices on the fly and also get some ambient long sustain sounds happening ah la Frippertronics if possible. Suggestions welcome... visog
22. So it doesn't appear to have the blend knob to retain and mix your clean signal?
23. It's a beaut'
24.
this seems like exactly the sort of thing Fender should be doing.
What? Nerfing one of their crown jewels into an Ibanez Talman?
25. The Andertons chaps run into one at about 2mins into the vid... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JDtq-msYoY
