1.
Worked out well for McCartney.
I think this is more Frog Rock?
2. Yes (I caught the Drama tour at Deeside 22 Nov 1980 when I had just turned 15) Chris Squire was ace!
3. My Two Note Le Bass developed a fault. Dropped it into BD and got the chaps to reproduce the fault. Unit replaced and sent to me when a new batch appeared from the distributor. No fuss.
4. Anyone tried 12fret plus chords on polyphonic up with it?
5.
Has John just told Julie that he is unable to continue their relationship as she is now too old?
!!!! Lol!!!!
6. Great voice too... think he wrote Starless? Killer crunch P-Bass tone... Asia was distinctly iffy at times though... Think his best playing is probably on UK. A great lost gem of Prog with a hint of Jazz courtesy of Allan Holdsworth!
7. I see he's bagged the ARW gig (Anderson Wakeman Rabin) for a Yes fest! http://www.bassplaye...ming-tour/58780
8. Interesting vid here where the presenter compares a Dark Glass B7k and the TN Le Bass: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rx7_3T9WUJY Not sure I agree with his comments about live use but worth a watch for those trying to decide which of these both great pedals to get...
9. BC'ers, Anyone tried one of these yet? The polyphonic octaving up is of special interest to me? Also intrigued with ability to use the subs for vibrato and chorusing... all in all looks awesome for the £120 mark. Do we believe the hype? Visog
10. Not easy to pick up a fretless and not cop some Jaco. MK had a unique voice. Actually, probably a bit harder to cop MK thinking about it...
11. Those were the days... insane line. Who was the bass player responsible for this and Party Fears Two?
12. New vid up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xoyTqYafMQ Shows off the features but tone-wise I have to say it's a little boxy. Probably this chaps tone and recording doesn't help. I had this thought when I A/B'd the Two Notes Le Bass and the normal Vintage Deluxe... the cab sim on the two notes gives it more 'heft'. (I did have the objective of replacing a rig with a pre-amp.) This looks good though if you've already got a rig with plenty of trouser-flappage and want to fine tune the grit on top.
13.
Its ten times more listenable to than Portrait of Tracy, she must have been one ugly bird!
Now see I like 'Portrait of Tracy'. It's got form and great harmony. Billy tends to just go for it and doesn't really carry the harmony in his 'lead' playing. I like his jazzier stuff when he stretches out though... Niacin we've mentioned but what about this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFIGPMdf5nc
14.
Billy is a rock band bass player - he locks in with the bass drum, plays parts which serve the song and sings. That's 95% or more of what he does.
Boring! That's another reason no one's copied him. And as for NV10538... what a racket!? Don't get me wrong, I'm not a hater... I've encountered him at trade shows too and found him to be very personable. Also I have the Niacin album and like it a lot!! Including his take on 'Birdland'. I'm just trying to answer the OP question.
15. So Mark King we have 'Hot Water' or 'Love Games'. Marcus we have 'Run for Cover', for Billy we have.... ? ermm ? that one with the tapping. You know... diddley, diddley, plunk?
16. I'll go with it's because he never had a hit or anthem, What's his 'Eruption', 'Jump' or 'Beat It'? Can you whistle a single BS lick or line?
17. SpectreSound get round to reviewing it at last... Not the best sounds I've heard from it but worth a look: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZvYqhE48SA
18. Was there anyone in the audience without a Fodera to sign?
19.
Official photo from bass direct when I bought it, but here is mine
That is stunning.... much prefer the older models. New shapes are bland
20. Still sad... took me a while to listed to Yes again after he passed away. Re. recommendations, I think 'Relayer' is probably his most technically impressive playing but I might be a hard listen for a newbie... 'To be over' is beautiful though right off the bat. I'd go 'The Yes Album' first probably. I saw the Drama tour too at Deeside Leisure Centre. Hugely impressed despite no JA and RW....
21. Five and Seven strings yield their major scale note layouts better than four and sixers if you're a pattern-based player. Simple maths really resonating with pentatonic and seven-note (sepatonic) scale forms. I know many will cry rubbish but as an example, I'd cite the seven's ability to deliver the entire major scale as a single fret vertical as one primary form on which to build. Like-wise a five will yield a wonderful 3x3 mixolydian with rotational symmetry with its rotated brother pivoting around the Ab on the A. (In the key of C.) A four cannot reproduce this so neatly. A six can but with the ugly pattern breaking remainder on the adjacent string.
22. So does DDP just use thumb & forefinger exlclusively now? Anywho, he is a phenomenal player... much overlooked. I think he gave up bass for a few years and became a priest? Not sure if the right hand transition didn't happen then?
23. Probably depends on the weed intake...
24. Yes please... something really different
25. So I get that it's not strictly 'vintage' but I'm a bit confused now at the 'aggressive' overlap with the B7K? What the clear blue water that this does and the B7K doesn't and vice-versa?
