1.
I was interested so I had a look at the manual - I can't see a HPF mentioned? Is it in the specs?
From the manual on the Tech 21 site: "BITE Engaged (in position), Bite activates a presence boost and subsonic filter. This tightens up the sound when you are in distorted settings and adds definition to your notes when playing in clean settings." Don't know what the frequency threshold is...
2. Good thread - v. educational. Will investigate the High-pass filter on the VT DI further then as it sounds like 'psycho-acoustics' will preserve my 'B' and possibly enhance the overall sound by reducing the workload on the speakers.
3. Just play the f**king black Rick and have done with it. Don't tease us with every other bass in the universe...
4.
Much the same experience here. My channel strip has a 75Hz (12dB/oct) HPF and to be honest it barely affects the sound of my bass while keeping out the nasty subsonic stuff.
Interesting. A low 'B' has a frequency of 31Hz so in theory the channel you mention should rip the fundamental right out of it? I know that our ears work more off the overtones to deduce the actual note played but even so, it's slightly counter-intuitive (to me at least) to filter out frequencies higher than 30Hz?
5. Interesting... presumably this works for 5 & 6 strings too where presumably, there's more rumble? Anyone vouch for positive or negative results on an extended range? What's a good frequency cut-off to remove rumble but preserve a punchy low 'B'? BTW - I've been looking at a Tech21 VT Bass DI which also has a low-pass filter but I'm not sure how well it works (on a 5).

9. Of the three replacements and one rumoured in previous years: Tony Levin - brilliant, played his 'funk fingers' for most all the Squire parts, worked well with Bruford Billy Sherwood - ok sideman on guitar for Yes tour few years ago, not sure about bass Jeff Berlin - Great player, wrong for Yes - disdain for the music, no sense of rock tone or Chris' phrasing Jon Camp - Lined up for ABWH but Jeff Berlin got it. Addresses both JB's defects above...
10. 1:24 what are we missing - Me too!? If we're hinting that it looks like his black Rick, it's not, later on looks like his Jazz.
11. Sad news. Means he'll miss the Summer tour in the US. And it will be the first time he's missed a tour with Yes (ABWH excepted). Here's hoping he gets well...
12. Well both would be out of place taking them down to the local. Rita Ora seems very talented and good-looking but a bass is for life (or until the next GAS-attack!)
13. Wow! Episode 1 is a Yes-Fest with almost all of Close to the Edge played either in the forefront or as backdrop to a conversation with Bill Bruford (who's a lot kinder to the music than he has been in some interviews). Chris Squire shines as always... what a tone!
14. 2x10" with BH500 for practising and a 2x12" in the wardrobe gathering dust as it way loud enough with just one cab...
15. I thought it was rather good... that sort of music suits a bubbly funky bass line.
16.
It's all here in a logical order. For free.. http://basschat.co.u...ion-index-1-36/
Yeah great. What's an ipb file 'cause my computer ain't buying it...
17. I love your examples of 'Pop' (a term not used by anyone under 20 since 1983) are both from the '60s. Late '60s mind so you're not too out of date. I think your question is less about technique and more about being unfulfilled in a remote musical location and age (not you, I'm referring to our shared musical environment in 2015 - moribund, sparse and at times, hostile). I suspect even the modern 'super' players you mention struggle to earn an income and rely on equipment endorsements and hence their conspicuous demonstrative styles.
18. Perhaps it's me but this idea of a super-intimate gig does not appeal at all. I want may rock stars on stage with a full production, and at the fraction of the cost. Admittedly not as exclusive but then that's not one of my musical appreciation criteria. Supposing he breaks your toilet?
