1.
Loved it - Macca is a much-derided (& very talented) man - I wonder how old that clip is?
I think it's about 10 years old and comes from a special he did from Abbey Road to small audience reminiscing and playing songs and snippets recorded there. He comes across as, amongst other things, a very musical person... And let's not forget, the mighty Jaco, a music snob by all accounts, covered Blackbird.
 2.
Or a gloss black at bass direct , video link on page. http://www.bassdirec...II_4_Black.html
That's a beaut...
 3. Oh and Bright Size Life - that's a cracker. Him and Metheny were barely out of their teens when they made it.
 4. Can't recall seeing the interview portion of this before so thanks... As for the JayDee I assume he's just borrowed on that gig. Here he is with Jeff Berlin, also at BIT I believe this time on someone's Fender: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRFbfBGgpbw His demeanour in the clinic is very much like on the DCI video which as others have said, is probably the more lucid side of a troubled individual. Pity bi-polar was not as recognised, and as treatable then. Still we have his solo records, Weather Report and Joni...
 5. Not sure a demo's been posted yet... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4b7UttqFowU It comes with a wireless transmitter and is sounding pretty cool
 6.
I saw the photo and the price and thought it was a 2x12, I think my eyes popped out cartoon stylie when i realised they wanted £600 for a desktop amp! Eagerly awaiting buying a used one from the one crazy person who buys one. Pretty though
So about the same as the Ashdown....
 7. Well it could be just the thing for me (and Mrs visog). Looking forward to some reviews... Anyone spotted any yet?
 8. Very nice. Coughs *how much did that cost!?*
 9.
You want one that doesn't colour the sound then. Some outboard pres are pretty much a colour box with an eq control, similar to the front end of an amp.
Not necessarily... Certainly you don't want one that colours it not to you taste but the whole point of the outboard is that you affecting the signal in some way, if only to clean it up, EQ it and boost it. So the MXR, Sadowsky, Aguila, Bassbone are good candidates but I'd encourage you to consider those that add some dirt in your sound too, particularly if you like that vintage rock vibe (Geddy, Chris S, John Wetton). So consider also the Sans Amp range, EBS valve drive and connoisseurs' choice for bass distortion, the Dark Glass B7K.
 10. I'll pitch in for the clanklicious Mr Squire: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHl6sDLX8tQ
 11.
Black Eagle reissue! Talman basses! Oh, and that Volvo, or Vulva or whatever it's called... Jon.
P.S. Looks like Ibanez are going right back to their heritage of borrowing ideas at the mo:

Volo - Fodera Matt Garrison (not looks but concept - tuning, ramp, scale, etc.)
Black Eagle - Burns
Fanned fret - Dingwall
13. Like the look of the 33" Volo bass which with ramp, presumably is their take on a Fodera Matt Garrison? http://www.ibanez.co...2015/index.html And in action here: http://www.ibanez.co.jp/eu/news/f_products/2014/workshop/volo.html
 14.
No instrument is bounded to a genre or a time frame. The 'Jaco' or 'Pino' styles of fretless playing are not the only 'schools' and the instrument has moved with the music.
Well I was being provocative but, in fairness, the sum total of this thread would suggest not. (I'll give you Mick Karn but that was 30 years ago.) As for the 'experimental fretless funk' and Tony Franklin, I see that less of a 'school' as a couple of bad cases of bass tourettes.
 15.
If prefer my old one
Oh I see, you left your stash in it....

 17. A Show of Hands... they were well down the tubes by then! I signed up on the Permanent Waves tour - Deeside Leisure Centre, June 1980. Rick all the way!!!!!!!
 18. Whole thing was a boring soul review. P.S. HNY everyone...
 19. Bass Player live interview and a little bit of playing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8slJKsSWe9Y
 20.
Actually, the Streamer is a copy of the original Spector...
Yes - I was being ironic... both nice basses and re. the post topic, I think the USA made Spectors suffer from the same eye-watering pricing as the German made Warwicks. I bought second hand and got a nice late 80s Streamer standard from WarwickHunt for about £900. For the record, 'standard' in those days meant:

German-made
Neck-through
EMG P-J
2-band
21. He seems an interesting player with some strong opinions... That aside, I always like this record with Steve Khan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_FBGKb5Q-k First track especially when he 'introduces' his extended range bass...
 22.
Can't afford a new streamer stage ii??? Try this http://www.bassdirec...LX_SE_2014.html Build quality will burn anything warwick are churning out, besides the German made ones at least. (Ducking for cover hehehehe)
Tch... Warwick copy....
 23.
ECM were good at promoting artists back then as well. I would imagine that artists on ECM reached a wider audience that they probably would through smaller labels. I've just been thinking of some of the leaders/groups i've seen live when they were on ECM at the time of the concert: Jan Garbarek, Dave Holland, Terje Rypdal, Keith Jarrett, Ralph Towner, Glen Moore, Eberhard Weber, John Abercrombie, Steve Swallow, Bill Connors, Arild Andersen, Colin Walcott, Kenny Wheeler, Gary Burton, Pat Metheny, John Taylor, Paul Motian, Gary Peacock, Don Cherry, Nana Vasconcelos, Mick Goodrick, Miroslav Vitous, Charlie Haden, Ed Blackwell, Egberto Gismonti, Chick Corea, Shankar, Lester Bowie, James Newton, Oregon, David Torn, Marc Johnson. I've lost touch with what ECM do now but that was an impressive roster back then.
Agree the main ECM goodwill and spaciousness. Let's not forget the best ECM IMHO - 'Bright Size Life'. And the worst!!!! 'The Epidemics' anyone???? L Shankar, Steve Vai and Percy Jones... should be great right? Oh man. Played it once after I bought it 25 years ago and ears still not recovered.
sounded like a poor fretless player
Don't listen to any Steve Bailey whatever you do then.
