  2. Oh and a negative. What is with that tuner Boss? Literally all the other devices I mention above, the Zooms, helix, Dwarf, Tc clip on tuner can manage to say 'B' when your b string is in tune. Not C or F# or the number it first thought of. So yes, if you have a 5 string, you can tune the top 4, and then tune the 5th from the others, its faster.
  3. I am selling my Player Series Mustang Bass as I have eyes on another short scale Bass. It is in great condition and plays and sounds fantastic. You will notice that I have had the "recommended" modification that is removal of the selector switch and replace this with a tone control. This is now effectively wired as per a Jazz Bass. i.e. a volume for each pickup and overall tone control. I had this done professionally. Also comes with a gig bag. This is collection only.
  4. Selling my Hamer Slammer. MIK in the 90s. Pretty sure the pickups are unbranded Dimarzios, very lively and punchy Excellent condition, a tiny bit of rash and a few v small lacquer chips on the back, as per pics. This is a really well built instrument, the neck has a smooth matte finish, feels and sounds great. Comes in a brand new Gear4 Music hard case £275 posted to your door thanks for looking
  5. Indeed. When my old band from uni reformed for the guitarist's 50th we all had, by a strange conincidence, degrees.
  6. 1) Find some interesting material you want to learn and play (I do not think scales and Simandl are the highest in that list...). 2 a) Learn the basics right in the first phase. 2 b) If something does not feel right, ask first, act then (muscles, strings, bow, position...). So called stupid questions are important now. 3) Set some reasonable goal once or twice a year. 4 a) Play a lot. 4 b) Play with a band. 5) Enjoy. You want to play jazz (actually: anything), learn two beat, four beat and then walking in this particular order.
  7. I only have a top one, My Ashdown ABM600 Evo-IV. Other amps I've owned were okay but they don't come close. I was fortunate enough to buy it as 'ex-display B-Stock' for £300 from PMT a couple of years ago which was a pretty good deal.
  8. I've got a few of them I picked up for a few pounds off eBay. I was going to use the magnets inside for my (yet to be completed) automated guitar pickup winder. I'll keep looking as you can pick them up for very little. Focus for this week is checking out finishes on the guitar. Got some sanders, sanding paper, wet and dry, primer, filler, spray paint and epoxy resin to work out whats best or even if anything works. Thanks Rob
  9. I use mine nearly every day. I've had a other similarly sized practice amps which had rather an uninspiring tone, but the bass cube RX actually sounds like a proper amp. The fliptop emulation is my favourite.
  10. The Squier and Fender VIs are definitely bass guitars, strung EADGBE as a standard guitar but an octave lower, as is the Eastwood and all other 'Bass VIs'. Not to say you can't tune them differently with suitable strings but they are intended to be, and leave the factory as, a bass guitar.

  12. Best bedroom/ practice amp you can get, drum machine, effects, tuner. What’s not to like. Good luck with the sale x
  13. Hi Dave, I was looking for those threads! I nearly took this off you myself, however it was another owner or two later that it became mine! I believe the last work done was Martin at the Gallery again with a slight reprofile to the back of the body. I've only given it it a little fettle here and there and a set up to my taste, probably seven years ago now so apart from strings it remains as I got it and bloody fine thing it is! Still if my 55-60 goes I'll keep it.....or vice versa lol! Gaucho
  14. You will struggle to find a better value cab! 4x300W (1200W) 8 Ohms Roughly 25kg Size - 600x410x630mm Loaded with 4x eminence drivers (see pics for details). Marine ply construction. Open to sensible offers. Trade wise, I am interested in a clean boost pedal such as a rodenberg 707b or darkglass harmonic booster, or a line 6 helix stomp / stomp xl (assuming I have cash to add at the time...), but hey, try me. Located in Bedford, MK42 9UR. May be able to meet up somewhere or deliver for fuel money..but let's have that discussion first. Thanks!
  15. All of our band have degrees, three batchelors, me postgrad, and our lead guitarist got his PhD in some field of physics relating to electricity, which doesn't seem to be or the remotest help when trying to diagnose his Strat's noise problem. We're just a bunch of scruffy old whingebags and the parchments have no real bearing on that. It's just happenstance that we're all old gits from the same part or the world and share similar key demographics.
  16. I've settled on a different mic and preamp combination for my DB so selling these - will take £175 posted for the two together. Fishman Platinum Stage preamp - £100 posted This is the simpler version of the Platinum Pro used by many double bassists. You get 3-band eq with a sweepable middle and a selector switch that sets the eq to cover either guitar or bass frequencies. Runs from phantom power, a 9v power supply or you can use a 9v battery. There's velcro on the back to put it on a pedal board - I've left this on but it would be easy to remove. K&K Bass Max pickup - £80 posted This is a very simple and convenient pickup that wedges under the bridge wing. The cable socket clips onto the afterlength of the strings. The sound is great - on my bass I get a very solid tone, perhaps a bit closer to fretless bass territory, with really excellent feedback resistance. I was using this with the Fishman and the combination would be perfect for someone playing DB in a reasonably loud band.
  17. Fender 60th Anniversary Road Worn Jazz Bass. This copy of a 1961 Jazz bass features the rare, and in my opinion, far superior, dual concentric pots, allowing independent tone control of the front and back pickups. Finished in a 3 tone sunburst nitrocellulose-lacquer, with a light relic, it does look and sound the part. Includes a Fender classic series hard case. I’m located in S63, feel free to come try it out. £895 ONO. Model: 60th Anniversary Road Worn Jazz Bass Colour: 3 Tone Sunburst / PF Body: Alder Neck: Maple Neck Profile: Mid '60s "C" Fingerboard: Pau Ferro Fingerboard Inlays: White Dot Fingerboard Radius: 9.5" (241 mm) Nut Width: 1.5" (38.1 mm) Scale Length: 34" (864 mm) Frets: 20, Medium Jumbo Pickguard: 4-Ply Tortoiseshell Tuners: Vintage Style Reverse Bridge: 4-Saddle Vintage Style with Threaded Steel Saddles Hardware: Nickel/Chrome Pickups: 60th Anniversary Jazz Bass® Single Coil Controls: Stacked Concentric Controls Volume 1. 18. Good condition Korg tuner. £29 posted or £25 collected from Torquay.
  19. I collected a Nash P bass from @Skin Lewis yesterday lunchtime and thought I’d play it for the first set at yesterday’s gig in Bath. It sounded so good, I carried on til the end and my main bass became my spare. I can’t be the only one to get a new bass and gig it immediately surely?
  20. I decided not to go for it. Putting a classic rock station on in the car put me right off playing it. It really does nothing for me and some of it like Bon Jovi and Def Leopard I really dislike. It'll never work out.
  21. I’ve just collected a Nash P bass from Dave in a smooth and easy deal. One of Basschat’s finest!
  22. Hi Oliver, It's not ideal as I don't currently have any packing and the bass doesn't have a case. If you're in London jump on an off-peak train to Margate and I'll meet you at the station 👍
  23. Thanks for your quick reply, I was away at the time so have only just seen it. I’ll have look in B&Q and see what the options are.
