Finger joints and dovetail joints instead of battens along the edge should make a stronger, lighter joint, but makes each panel larger before machining and therefore more expensive. Using solid wood instead of ply would probably not be as stiff, and possibly prone to cracking as the tenperature/humidity changed. David

I was meant to go and mess about with the prototype but ended up with iris being in hospital the weekend I was due up there. They look ace. Will hopefully see them at the guitar show in Brum next month.

Just back from playing at the (mostly) annual Let’s Play Bowie tribute gig at Leicester’s International Arts Centre. My first gig of the new year, this time as part of a multi-band afternoon gig, playing bass on a six-song Bowie set (Ziggy Stardust, Starman, Moonage Daydream, Boys Keep Swinging, Andy Warhol and Queen Bitch). The gig was a sell-out and nicely full by the time we played just before 5pm. Lovely to play a gig where someone else is sorting out the sound (very good it was too) and I just turn up with a bass and a cable. Took my Squier Bitsa P bass project strung with GHS Precision flats. Provided bass rig was a Markbass LM2 into an Ampeg 2x12 (I think). I got to catch up with other local singers and musicians, one who had brought his genuine 1971 P bass for the gig, which was splendid. No photos of my band yet but these give you the rough idea. What a brilliant afternoon out and a lovely thing to be part of.

Maybe not overly helpful, but would switching out the tuners for ultralights on one not get you close to saving that 0.5kg?

These look cool, very retro futuristic if you know what I mean. The 25% off is working, I put one in my basket and continued to see. Great range of colours as well although I can't see the actual colours, but I do have a confetti pink one with cream scratchplate in my basket 😁.

Pick the colour that looks most like earwax, and horrify the audience.

Have any of you ever come across a BBP35 that weighs 4kg? I would absolutely love one but they all seem to be around 4.5kg as far as I can tell

I can't comment on port sizes for a 12" as I haven't a clue 😊 Other people have commented before on the wood and construction method. Your friend seems to want to make things unduly complicated and heavy but I will defer to people who know more about this. Rob

Id need to file the nut and bridge to accept the thicker stings. I can only just get a .110 string in the E string slot in the bridge.

We use a single source of printing for the set and we're each handed a copy on the night. The BL described it as Fawlty Towers The Musical.

Thank you very much for the offer. Would the port pipe for a 12” cab be the same size as an 8” cab? I hope to be getting round to the build in about a month. I have a mate who has an impressive workshop full of woodworking machinery. He is pressing me to have finger jointed panels instead of using batons (he has a machine for that). He is also suggesting solid wood rather than ply. I’m not convinced, especially regarding weight.

Pedants are us! Ok yours checks out, though the grille cloth needs replacing. The Mustang one - I just noticed it has a maple fretboard. Tsk tsk. How do they sleep at night. At least it has a wonky bridge
