  1. Past hour
  2. Any excuse to show me hanging out with him last year... 😁
  3. But there is no denying that it imposes a number of artistic limitations on what can be reproduced with regards to low frequencies, phase and panning as well as impacting on the running order of albums. It's a matter of fact that should we decide to release a version of the album my band are currently recording on vinyl, it will most likely have a different running order to the digital version because the track that we want to close the album will not sound as good at the end of a side on vinyl. Also one of the tracks where we have done something interesting with the panning of the notes on the Bass VI will need to be at least partially collapsed down to mono. I've already checked what the effect will be and it has negatively affected the stereo movement and spread of the track and is particularly noticeable on earbuds/headphones.
  4. Perhaps a bit different from what you're saying, but two of the eight Grammy nominees for 'best new artist' first got fame via TikTok (Addison Raye, Alex Warren). And the winner of best music video was Deochii (who got fame as a Youtuber vlogger). So I suppose at least for them social media got them audience and then they monetise it by becoming musicians and selling gig tickets and merchandise and endorsements etc.
  5. There's not one post here that was against a happy ending of the bass being reunited with the owner. I went back and reread them all. In fact, there's no negativity toward Mark or the buyer. What there was, was some healthy non-conflict comment and information about some of the legal aspects and what could happen in similar circumstances, and a few well-meant warnings about certain couriers and practices. I think it's been a useful learning experience and it reflects well on the community that we can have these discussions.
  6. Another cool pedal I've had sat around a while, sounds great, I just don't use dirt in my current setup so while it sounds really good it's just sat in a cupboard and might as well be getting used by someone. Condition is excellent / looks new to me. Here's someone doing a demo of one: Pedal is in Hope Valley (S33 6SB) if you're passing for collection or I can do local delivery, also happy to do UK poastage.
  7. This and only this.
  8. I bought Who Do We Think We Are? by Deep Purple and I wore out the intro of My Woman From Tokyo and it skipped like a beast. When I hear it now, it sounds wrong, without that jump.
  9. Great sounding preamp/di, I'm having a clear out of things I don't use enough to warrant keeping and I already have a clean preamp/di that does the job for me as well as a couple of colourful sounding pre/di pedals so I really don't need this sat around as it may as well be with someone who'll be using it. It does that lovely Eden clean crisp sound, punchy and lovely. Comes with a power supply (don't think it's the original one) but I used with my voodoo lab power supply as that does 15v. Condition is very very good. Pedal is in Hope Valley (S33 6SB) if you're passing for collection or I can deliver locally, happy to post within UK.
  10. Yes that's a sensible summary

  12. Here we go. Vinyl is irretrievably flawed, vinyl lovers are in denial, etc, etc. The truth is that the best of any format sounds great. It's also true that it is more expensive to get a decent sound from vinyl, but once you get to that point, it does sound a bit special. At its best (which is undeniably expensive), it can rival, perhaps even better other methods of music reproduction. You don't have to spend telephone numbers - £2k tonearms, etc - but the base/entry point for quality is higher than it is for other formats. If you have a strictly utilitarian approach to life, vinyl probably isn't for you, but the majority of us don't live that way. Yes, pride of ownership is a factor, but a liking for nice things applies to many aspects of life. We don't all drive economy cars, wear simple, functional clothing or eat bland but perfectly nutritionally balanced food. We like a bit of luxury and even a few toys. Nowt wrong with that. In my experience, those who claim vinyl is fundamentally flawed (what method of music reproduction isn't flawed in some way?) have never heard it at its best.
  13. I can't say I've picked that vibe up from anyone in particular, but I'm glad and proud it was spotted, our emails appear to have had an impact and it looks to be heading towards a happy ending
  14. Quite.. it's strange to see some of the other takes on this this thread.
  15. I would say the pitch shifter and octaver are so bad they're both unusable.
  16. Thanks both for the clarification and the offer. Is it really that bad?
  17. I can confirm it does cycle back to A after scrolling through the list. @Jack I can try to record a quick bit of the pitch shifter so you can see after work if that'd be useful?
  18. I have to say I've gone digital. But one day I'll get my LP12 out of the loft and set it up again. Meanwhile we have a pic'n'mix the usual arguments: Digital is more accurate than vinyl. Vinyl has more feeling than digital. Digital has more dynamic range than vinyl. Digital sounds like sandpaper. You must be mad if you spend £2k+ on a needle. CDs are limited and you can't spread jam on them and expect them to play. Vinyl LPs warp. Anything above £250 and you can't tell the difference anyway. Some albums sound better on this and some on that. Anything above £251 and it's all a placebo anyway. My vinyl sounds no better than my digital when played over Bluetooth. It's about the music not the system. Go out and listen to some live music.
  19. Lucinda Williams is this coming Saturday. Looking forward to seeing her again. The Six Musical was last month and it was bloody amazing. 10 girls onstage including the 4 piece band. Fantastic vocals, musicianship and choreography from all of them. It’s not a long show but it never stops. I really enjoyed it.
  20. Provenance though! Think about the provenance! 😂
  21. Way more oomph than you'd expect - far more than the TE Elf, for example, and some useful connectors too. GLWTS.
  22. Isn't there some correlation between desire vs. price vs. ownership where people will just go, 'Oh, it definitely sounds better than the old one.' It's the same with (meandering down a muddy path) pickups and strings and tonewoods. (This is why Paul/Milehouse Studios You Tube stuff is such a delight to watch; small pots, pickups, wood etc. "It makes no difference. It's all bullshit.") I concur with @BigRedX, some stuff - like my old Sparks, Sweet, Mott The Hoople singles - needs to be played on an old Dansette. No amount of £2k tonearms are going to make those babies sound better.
  23. I'm watching this because I want to see the owner get it back.
  24. And fwiw Kev, I totally agree with you about not taking the piss as a starting point. Plenty of users adopt a buy and return approach with online purchases, because they have to as it's the only way to try things out absent physical stores these days. Online retailers build in the cost of such returns as part of their business model as the quid pro quo for not having the cost of physical stores and staff, whilst having the advantage of selling goods at similar margins to retailers with physical stores and staff. So whilst my (and, trust me, it was polite) request for Musicstore to consider applying a promo related discount directly as part of their current promotion might be something you would hate as a customer sales rep, I'm sure their staff are more than capable!

  26. And there's one of the advantages of sticking with just what you get with Logic. If it's doing what you need now, it will still do what you need in the future. Up until a year ago I was managing perfectly well with an early version of Logic X. When you do finally upgrade all your Logic plug-ins will still sound exactly as they did before. Even if they have been updated or depreciated as in the case of ESX24 the new version still loads all the sample sets I made 25 years ago and they still sound the same as they did back then. Unlike my Simmons SDSV plug-in which suddenly made all my carefully edited drum sounds completely different because the developer had changed how a few parameters worked and although there was a single preference setting that needed to be toggled to get them back to how they were under the previous version, it was hidden away and not at all obvious. There is a case for starting with GarageBand rather than going straight to Logic. The OP will already have it without needing to spend any money and has been said previously in this thread the multitude of features available in Logic can lead to option paralysis. I'd been making recordings for over 20 years starting with live to stereo tape and progressing through 4 and 8 tracks adding analogue and MIDI sequencing along the way until I went full in the box DAW, by which time I had built up enough recording knowledge for it not to be information overload.
