A timely thread. I'm about where you are. Playing live for over 40 years. I find I'm pushing myself as I don't want to let others down. Two gigs this weekend, and if they were both cancelled, I'd be quite happy. Hadn't thought of a reset, but maybe finding something that suits me. I also think I should give the gig to someone else and not be selfish. I'm going to think about a reset for sure.
-
No. The closest I came was a break of about a year when I moved South, leaving behind a gigging band and having to start all over again in a town where I knew no-one. And the pandemic, but I kept up my practising.

So, after a few difficult weeks, my wife decided today that I should have a mandolin. Since I was smart enough not to argue, a few hours later we found ourselves in a music shop I had never been to before: Dijkmans Muziek in Breda (NL). Highly recommended if you're ever in the area: a huge selection of guitars (both electric and acoustic) and basses, and a handful of Eastman mandolins. I already had an Eastman parlor guitar and am very impressed with the value for money of their instruments, even in the more affordable segment. The mandolin (at 460 euros, incl. nice gigbag) is extremely well made, sounds beautiful (to my untrained ears) and plays wonderfully (again, admittedly, given my lack of experience). Off to practice now ...

I bought a 5 string multiscale from Gear 4 music and found that I really do not gel with them at all. I only kept it past the return date in the hope that I would warm to it, but after a few weeks it remains unplayed in its box.

I stopped playing bass during lockdown. I switched to keys. Still playing keys, but have a renewed love for bass. The time away really helped as I was getting bored with it and felt I was stuck in a rut.

M2 is light. I suspect that the M7 is not much heavier.

ahh, I'll be back there soon, though I imagine you'll be gigging again - I'm not sure I know anyone who gigs as much as you But let's meet soon! Steve

Is Wilton Felder one of the best bassists of the 70s
Piers_Williamson replied to jamersongoated's topic in General Discussion
I shouldn't do this on this thread, but here are the Crusaders with Wilton Felder playing beautiful sax, and Ready Freddie holding down the bass line -
Have you ever bought a BASS and hated it
wheredragonsdwell replied to Bass4real's topic in Bass Guitars
I had a Countryman bass Ukelele a while back that I didn't really gel with. Rubber strings that constantly went out of tune and intonation was pretty bad and non adjustable. I'd still be curious to try one again with roundwound strings -
Hey folks, Selling my 2006 Stingray 4 Anniversary Edition. If you know StingRays, you know what to expect: punchy, clear, and super responsive. This one's got a twist though — mahogany body instead of the usual ash, which gives it a warmer, fuller tone. Still has that signature StingRay bite, just with a bit more low-mid richness. Balances perfectly, no neck dive. Weighs around 4.3 kg, so it's solid but manageable. Plays great, electronics are clean, and it's been as good and shiny as new. Looking to pass it on to someone who'll actually play it. Open to trades too — high end jazz basses. Located in Eindhoven Netherlands. Shipping in continental EU is possible if needed. Specs Year: 2006 Body: Mahogany (unique to this model) Finish: Translucent Crimson Red Neck: Figured maple Fingerboard: Rosewood with 30th Anniversary inlay Scale: 34" Nut Width: 1 5/8" Radius: 7.5" Frets: 21 Neck Joint: 6-bolt Truss Rod: Wheel-adjustable Pickup: Alnico humbucker Electronics: 3-band active EQ Tuners: Schaller BM Weight: ~4.3 kg Balance: No neck dive Case: Original G&G hardshell

I had a pair of these Delano’s made for a new bass with both the same width as the bridge pickup. They also have raised pole pieces under the A and D strings for cambered string placement. They are used, maybe 10/12 gigs but as new. I’ve decided to go back to the HE model that I’ve used for many years on my other basses. The price includes standard U.K. postage..

I have a 4 string NS Dimension. Looks and souds great and plays really nicely!

I know ,she was using one of those telephone cord leads we use to use back in the 60s. She used 2 Telecasters and a Les Paul last night. Daryl

Hi all, not been around here for many, many years, mostly thanks to spending the last 10 years doing a PhD - tends to soak up all of one's discretionary time A huge thank you to everyone who's ever shared news here about my music and gigs in the interim, and I'm especially grateful for the thread regarding my 2022 Cancer diagnosis (still cancer free three years after being told I was in 'complete metabolic response'). Life these days is still making large amount of music, released exclusively through Bandcamp, most of it subscriber only, alongside teaching on Zoom (message me for info, or check out my website ) and lecturing at BIMM in Birmingham, on the degree and MA courses. Plus other visiting masterclasses and whatnot. Hopefully I'll be able to drop in more often now that I'm not freaking out about PhD deadlines cheers! Dr Steve

Virtually new Fender Bassman 100 cover from Roqsolid, i got it to use while my flightcase was being manufactured so was only used briefly. Its a little dusty but will wipe. They're about £65 new + shipping Cover is in Hope Valley, happy to post within UK, probably gonna cost a tenner just for how small it doesn't fold up.
