I’d hope we could help a good friend of Basschat @lee650 He’s gone from messaging me “that’s it Trav, I’ve got everything I need bass wise” to having to sell some/most of his collection. I’m hoping we can raise enough so he can at least keep one of the 3 basses he’s has for sale. If you know Lee, you know he’s a gorgeous human being; he’d give you his last quid for the bus home and walk himself…he’s got a heart of gold. We thought we'd done our last gig at the Donkey back in October last year. Tonight we played there again. There was quite a lot of doubt if it would continue as a music venue, and not very good communication from the new owner at the time, which put a lot of peoples' noses out of joint. A lot of the old regulars are boycotting the place (as we found out) and a few bands too. Well we're a mercenary bunch and I'm glad to say we filled the place. I don't know what the bar staff thought of it because they didn't strike me as the most experienced. I think they were more used to a sedentary rate of service. That's the only photo I took We had a great time and hopefully showed the new owner what a music venue should be like. Certainly they enjoyed it. I took the stingish bass again and it was nice to let the Rumble sing a bit (they don't have a house PA any more). I even brought the smoke machine along. Packing up took ages because it seemed that everyone wanted to shake hands and say goodbye, blocking the exit while they did! Converse one-stars kept me upright and striking a few stances

Thanks Don't sell yourselves short. You guys have a good thing started. You guys sound high end so I'm hoping to hear about high end gigs for you guys. Don't be afraid to say "no" if a booking seems dodgy. Daryl Daryl

Welcome to Bass Chat. I think all my direct experience is detailed above. The BW speakers are now another 5 years older and most will now be showing signs of their age. I think you've little to lose by trying the repairs detailed above. The life expectancy is going to be short anyway depending upon how you intend using them so you have little to lose if the repair fails. You haven't told us what the exact problem is.

I've got one bass set up with Fender flats. They are like steel rods. Not enough flex to feel the frets under my fingers and string bending is horrid. Going to try the Harley Benton 40-100 set which is supposed to sound good and be supple for silly money.

A Shout out for bassbags simply as they are local and have always been helpful for me ..and also my local emergency luthiers.. and they do get a discount and do pass some of it on. For a set of Eva's, I didn't find anywhere cheaper. But Amazon and eBay do indeed throw up all kinds of occasional bargains. Big question is...do you really need guts, and all their expense and inconveniences, when synthetics are so very good these days. Personally I like steel wound steel rope core strings best for pizz ..but the rest of my orchestra would rather I didn't 😂.

Just looked at a recent version of them playing it on the Howard Stern Show with the great Tim Lefebvre on bass and he plays the A, not the G#...!

We were supposed to have a gig at our favorite pup, the Coach House in Paignton last night. A couple of weeks ago we heard it was closing in June and we thought this would be our last gig there. It turned out it closed on the 1st of June. Luckily, we will get some gigs at another pub across town that know us, so all is not lost. We have been playing at the Coach House for 20 years, and I played there in my previous band too. The end of an era for sure.
