The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
Obrienp replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
That’s the full scale version. A brilliant price nevertheless. It’s the TMB 30 & 35 which are the shorties. https://www.ibanez.com/eu/products/model/talman_bass/ I had the 35. Chunky neck and it weighed a ton (apparently they vary a lot). Very noisy, weak Jazz pickup that is not a standard length. Weird Strat style jack socket that I couldn’t get my wireless dongle into. Most people end up spending a lot on upgrades to get a decent bass. Then you can’t recover the outlay if you sell it. Fine, if like me, you are an inveterate modded and enjoy the process. -
Not even. There are four inchers that would give good lows if the horn is large enough, but their small displacement would limit their output. Even horn loaded eight inches is the smallest practical size.

Guess you already sold it 😉

yo guys this is also listed on reverb but I’d rather sell it here to avoid fees etc The Darryl Jones signature bass overdrive pedal, an absolute favourite bass overdrive it sounds great with a J or a P bass… does that broken up Jaco bridge pickup thing, compliments a p bass beautifully, and a very musical and useful all rounder. has been gigged but is in very good condition and sounds amazing. these are now discounted, I’m not actually sure how many were made in the first place. I’ll probably regret letting it go but it isn’t getting used as much as it should be. buyers pays postage, collection welcome. cheers all

Well it's not a SUB neck because they have a black finish. "Sub" in this case might indicate substitute.

mcnach started following Harley Benton flats - they're a bit good!
-
I had a 4-string set for a while that I bought to try, as they're just around £10-12, or £15 for a 5-string set. I finally put them on a bass and I'm really liking their sound. I almost never like a set of flats on day 1, but these are nice. That's all, public service announcement over.

If it’s just the pickup config you wanted I’d go for one of these… Fancied one for quite a while but always talk myself out of it… https://retrovibe.co.uk/product/retrovibe-tc30-thundercaster-bass-30-short-scale-dark-grey-flame-top/ -

This post made me wonder how long I’ve been on here, looked and it will be 15 years on Weds. And I only joined to sell a bass, wonder how many others have similar stories.

Muzz started following Bareface Super Twin and Barefaced Compact 15 cab with cover

As with my other For Sale post(s), this is a reluctant one that family pressure has finally brought about. I've kept this unused for a number of years Just In Case I ever needed backline again, but nowadays pretty much everything I do is inears/DI, so it has to go. It's the first bass cab design Alex went with, and for a lot of environments, it's still very very useable. Very light, sensitive and very clear for a 15, I've used it with my 300w Walkabout and it's warm and loud. Comes with a cover, both are in great condition, possibly a few small cosmetic scuffs, but I've hardly used this one (I had one back in the day, sold it, regretted it and bought another) as my backline gigs dwindled. I'd much rather meet up (let's say a 75 mile radius from Oldham) than post.

As with my other For Sale post(s), this is a reluctant one that family pressure has finally brought about. I've kept this unused for a number of years Just In Case I ever needed backline again, but nowadays pretty much everything I do is inears/DI, so it has to go. You all know the score; stupid light for a 1200w rated cab (wheels, too), very sensitive (I've used this with my '300w' Walkabout, and it will drown any unmiked drummer without breaking sweat), and plenty for any stage in terms of volume. In great condition (a few very minor cosmetic dings, but nothing remarkable), and woefully underused, really. I note these are £1300 these days, so £750 is a bargain for the only cab you need for anything and everything. Would be a PITA to post, I'd much rather meet up, and I'd do a 75-mile radius meet from Oldham.

Financial squeeze means it's time I clear out gear I'm not using at the moment, and as all my gigs nowadays are inears, the backline can go. I've held onto this unused for literally years (I think 7 this year) because it's just the best amp I've ever used (and anyone who's read any of my relevant posts knows that's a lot of amps), in a Just In Case kinda manner, but now family pressure has won out, and it can't sit under the stairs any more, so it has to go. I'm sure anyone who knows amps knows the deal with these: the most valvey, warm amp this side of a 50lb box of bottles, and don't let the 300w fool you; with the right cab(s) - see my other For Sale Posts - this thing is more than capable of holding a stage, and can keep up with any drummer. The EQ has a secret weapon, too: the bottom of the para section can be dialled in as a very effective HPF, because you can cut 15db from 30Hz up, which I've found very useful. The mids are the best I've had on an amp, so it can keep the bass present in the mix without overpowering or harshness. The case is one from Maplin (remember them?) and fits the amp snugly - I also used the foam from the top lid to sit the amp on top of the cab. Very secure and tough, without being heavy. Anyhoo, I'm talking myself out of this sale, so that'll do for now, but any questions, just ask. I'd much prefer to meet up if poss, tho with the case I could post, but I'd have to get a price. I can drive maybe a 75 mile radius from Manchester to meet up, even with the tough case I'd rather do that than post.

Deep bass just gets in the way. Listen to any record and the bass guitar should be renamed low-mid guitar.

I too was on Bassworld for awhile and signed up for Basschat on 17th May 2007. I remember thinking why would anyone sit in front of a terminal and post about playing bass! Ho hum!!!

It's back and this time it's a "sub neck"

<Pedantic botanist alert> Sycamore isn't native to the UK, although there's lots of it here. Provenance can therefore be UK. -

Ahhh yes indeed good sir! We all scurried over from the sinking ship that was BassWorld.co.uk! I remember logging on to BassWorld and I think I still had dial-up internet to begin with! BassWorld appeared around 1998 and it was a lot quieter than BassChat, it’s great to see that many of the very early numbers of ‘worlders are still here!! And great to see the community has flourished and grown. Though it is saddening that we’ve lost some wonderful bassists on the way, their memory lives on.

Red run club at aintree on Friday they were excellent , but only saw a few numbers as the timings and train times got in the way. they were a bolt on gig to the race meeting.
