  2. Well done you. What a wonderfully helpful comment.
  3. Hi all, I finally took the plunge and bought the Colour box v2 (got the 10-year anniversary one with the Neve style colour scheme). I use a Stomp for my tone shaping & effects, but wanted a DI box that added some subtle warmth/fatness. After looking for ages I pulled the trigger on the Colour box and am thoroughly enjoying it. The EQ is very musical, even with extreme cuts/boosts. It's quite nice having easy to use controls to tweak on the fly. The 2 transformers combine to give a subtle but pleasing 'warmth' to the sound. It also sounds slightly compressed - but maybe this is just the EQ colouration. The high pass might be useful in some cases, but doesn't go low enough for bass guitar unless you add some boost at the same frequency. I'm guessing this is more useful for other instruments. The console style distortion is best avoided in my opinion - I'm staying in the clean but warm lane It's quite a large pedal - just squeezes onto my new small board - but it looks the business, particularly in the Neve-inspired livery. The white LED is eye-searingly bright. I am experimenting with tape/cupboard bumpers/stickers to save my poor eyes. I thought that I would share this in case anyone was also in the hunt for something to put at the end of the chain as an alternative offering. I know there are some really nice valve DIs / pres (Sushibox Finally , Noble, new Khan mini, Jad Freer Luce etc), but I've always enjoyed the sound of a direct bass straight into a nice vintage console. (I'm also a pessimist - I know pre-amp valves last a long time, but transformers last even longer!) As always, your mileage may vary. This is just an opinion. I haven't even used it in anger yet - just at home, so I guess this is even less useful than normal! Bad photo attached as I know it's bad form to post without pics. (The mini-tuner is because our church meets in a lively acoustic, with band setup in front of the speakers meaning that I can't always hear my bass clearly over the subwoofer mush, and so knowing if the fretless is in tune is rather useful.) Let the flaming commence...! Phil

  4. Can you post a link to the foam earbuds you bought? Mine hurt my left ear ☹️
  5. Firstly, no, we're not saying 'Teacher only', simply that it's by far the best method for each individual, especially when starting out from scratch. Once some of the basics are in place, there are many on-line courses, or excellent method books, in all sorts of styles for all sorts of players (from beginner to virtuose, and everywhere in between...). There are, however, those very important steps that have so many pitfalls, whereby one takes on, unwittingly, bad habits, which can be long, difficult, and sometimes impossible to rectify. Getting off to a Good Start is more important, I'd suggest, than anything else, and need not take long, nor be costly. One thing a face-to-face lesson can do, that no book nor screen can do, is correct issues immediately, before they become Issues. Stupidly simple stuff, such as Posture, height of strap, choice of fingering and position, breathing, keeping in time, with a regular tempo, at the right speed (neither too slow nor too fast...) and much, much more. Once these fundamentals are acquired, there is a whole lifetime of honing one's skills, choosing songs to play, learning to play with others, recording, at home or 'out', enjoying a new style etc... I'm not saying that either of the courses mentioned are not worth their cost (there are many others, too...); just that none can see what you're doing (right or wrong...) from the very first moment. As early as possible, find a Bass tutor and take at least an introductory lesson, explaining what it is you wish to achieve with your bass journey, and take from there. He/she will also have tuition material for practicing, and will be able to advise on other courses, too. That's my opinion; others may offer different advice. Edit : Just to say that Google search algorithms are not constructed to produce the best 'quality' at the top of their results, but the most commercially interesting for themselves. To be kept in mind at each Search, I suggest.
  6. You beat me to it. I still think My Favourite/Favorite Headache sounds very Rush like and there's no Peart or Lifeson on that.
  7. Anyone know what brand the Bass is plus the guitars if known A friend genuinely asked me if I knew and I don't have clue, so anyone shed any light on it .? All I know is the photo was taken between 1965 a 1968 in Eastwood Notts so I'm lead to believe although the year is not 100%.
  8. Or this, as the necks are black: This is an auroch or aurochs, and it's very easy to pronounce.
  9. Many people rave about how tc electronic spark booster for just this. countless threads say how good it is. You ca find them on eBay used for 30-40. New is 49.99. As I’ve a genzler rig, I went for the genzler 4 on the floor from a member from here.
  10. He was the main 'lyricist'. This isn't an album, it's a tour.
  11. Lucky sod! I saw a few of their tours after that 🙂
  12. Couple of things here: - Broughton: Exactly the same tracking as the original OC2, by their own admission. - There were no changes to the original OC2 that made MIJ and ‘better’ sounding than MIT. Yes there was a IC chip change, but that was effectively like-for-like due to an out-of-production IC. The change actually happened during the MIJ era, and so there are some MIJ (even OctaveR) units that have the ‘new’ IC, as early as ‘83 that I’ve personally seen. So if someone says they can hear a tonal difference between a MIJ and an MIT specifically, then I’m afraid that’s purely down to the component value drift/leakage/age of a given unit, it’s got nothing to do with the circuit or place of manufacture. As such, with any OC2 (or old pedal), you roll the dice as to whether it does what you need, don’t buy it based on where it was made. Si
  13. Well we all know the history , but I just don’t feel it tbh . Neil was the main songwriter , and of course an unstoppable force live and on record . I’ve seen a lot of Annika’s drumming on you tube .This was before the announcement of her joining Rush .She is phenomenal..but I can’t imagine her moving around so much as Neil did . I can’t see the warmth . Plus of course Geddy’s voice is not what it was. Some of their stuff has been downturned live to accommodate. He was struggling on the clockwork angels tour . Then there is the cash grab side of things ; expensive tkts ( apparently) , plus the huge price of reissued stuff such as the Grace Under Pressure Live set etc. I’ll wait for the dvd / download. Yeah , it’s true that Rush do indeed divide options . Fans disliking the modern stuff or hating the prog stuff etc . It’s only my opinion though 🙂
  14. I'm going to stick my neck out (ha!) and compare it with this one... My guess is that they changed the design at some point. Equally, I may have entirely the wrong end of the stick.
  15. Boodang

    Envelope filters

Unfortunately I don't have an original to compare it to but just got this.
  16. There seems to be some damage on the body above the heel. Possibly related? It would be interesting to see it with the neck off.
  17. Girl With Grey Eyes - Big Country
  18. Re-release version. It’s been used, so isn’t pristine but works fine. Velcro on the base. No original box.

  19. It took me ten minutes to work out what that was 🤪 I’m trying to find a teacher in the area. Plenty advertising the above unmentionable, but can’t see any Bass. I will keep looking. So are we saying Teacher only? No online? Or if online is OK along side face-to-face, would it be this Scott or the Beginner to Badass? I’m intrigued that not a single comment on the Beginner to Badass. It’s the one that tops the google searches (well my algorithm maybe). Is there a reason?
  20. ERNIE BALL MUSICMAN STINGRAY SUB USA When I got this - as many are - the neck was sticky black and so its been stripped and beautifully finished by renowned Lincolnshire luthier John Le Voi and plays like silk and IMO looks so much better The weight is a respectable 9.1 ish pounds on my kitchen scales (allow a little variation in that) the original pickguard that came with this model is a metal checkerplate and is included in the sale; the red one is a quality aftermarket one i prefer it personally There are a few dinks on the body which is the original white matt-ish slightly textured finish Its sounds amazing for slap and to be honest if these were the weapon of choice for Bernard Edwards nuff said it can do it all - new strings and set up from John when he refinished the neck which is a million percent better than stock I can post or you can collect - the latter preferred but I appreciate not always possible - I know sometimes taking a trade can help things along so feel free to try me
  21. Gotta love Skynard for getting a crowd fired up!
  22. Today
  23. Probably not this one:
  24. I totally agree. If a seller was willing to sell it at a price under the market value that doesn't make someone who sells the same bass at the market value dishonest or dishonourable. The original vendor might have needed a quick sale for whatever reason. If he was happy to accept an offer, that's that.
