When I built my first basschat design, might even have been a prototype, I screwed and glued but if you are using Tuffcab, it does not stick well to metal or same fillers. The second cab I built screwed and glued but once the glue was dry, I removed the screws, drilled out the holes and filled with dowels. Once cut odd and sanded flat, the Tuffcab went on fine. Remember the glue is more than enough on its own, the screws just hold the panels in place while the glue dries. What glues to use? Nothing fancy. There is no difference between the strength of Titebond and any £1.99 glue from Lidl. Titebond and a few others offer faster initial drying. That is to the time that you may unclamp. However, almost all require 24 hours to full achieve fullstrength so why risk it.

Owen started following XR18 to IPad to Cubasis help needed

The Apple/non Apple hardware thing is real. They release updates which whack new knock of adapters out of the running. That is probably where the issue is. I have no Cubasis experience, but if I were to multitrack on an iPad I would be looking at Garage Band.

I bought some batteries, but that's it. -
That would have put me on my guard from the off. Better off adding to their ever expanding list of ex-bassplayers.

Well, the ric is doing well, but I have only just got it so it is too early to say how good it is and I am happy with my new XVive A58, but I haven't gigged them yet. I am struggling to think of something I bought this year that i feel much about - in all honesty so far the best thing I have got this year is a K&R microphone stand that has been great! -
Ah, that's my super power, I could lose one, two or even three fingers and my bass, guitar and piano playing wouldn't be any worse at all ....

The 4-piece covers band I'm playing in is finishing up in December and we have 3 gigs left to play. I've never really been a proper member. I'm excluded from any discussions, am part of a band WhatsApp group that is called "Here we go again..." referring to the large number of bassists they've had but there's little other than logistics in that group. When we turn up to gigs, I'm allocated a spot, rather than defaulting to high hat side of the drummer. It's essentially wherever the guitarist doesn't want to go. This week I received a message from the guitarist, through whom I get all the important comms, saying that I was required to stand down for the next gig as they were using a previous bassist because he needed a gig to cheer him up after having a hard time. I've not been happy for a while, so I responded saying, OK but get him to play the other remaining gigs, and I'm out. He's not available for the next ones because he's got commitments with his own band! This isn't normal behaviour. It was never made clear that I was a "permadep" and it was never agreed that recently the stage "bants" was targeting me with some pretty vile comments, thinly masked as "jokes". I also can't do anything right when it comes to packing up and helping. There's tons of other things I've not been happy with, mostly related to comms (conversations, feedback, ignoring my messages) and being kept out of the loop. The gigs have been good and it's been a learning experience but I'm bailing and with good reason. I would never treat anyone the way I've been treated. Anyway, I'm starting with a new (to me) band and it's all a very different vibe.

What a year it has been. Tried to go abstinent, failed in March, and then went a bit mad, oops. So much good gear, but I have to rank as #1 the bass which put me out of this year's Gear Abstinence Challenge, a bass which had been living rent-free in my head for the past dozen years or so - the Greco LGB-700 in purpleburst... I know they say "don't meet your heroes" but this bass is absolutely fabulous, everything I dreamed it would be. Of course, I made it mine by altering the control system a touch (instead of the stock VVV it's now 6 way Freeway switch then VT), but the pickups are great, and it looks utterly fantastic. Honourable mention go to the Boss XS-1 Poly Shifter - hands down the best pitch shifting pedal I have ever heard in terms of preservation of tone and tracking. Worst? I haven't bought anything truly awful this year, it's more a case of "least good" really. I suppose it's the SGC Nanyo Bass Collection SB310 I picked up. Was really curious about these basses and wanted to try one. It's a fantastic bass, but it's not for me, mostly because it's too damn light! It's for sale now. A shame, if it had a bit more heft about it I'd probably have kept it. -
Pestie started following FENDER AERODYNE JAZZ BASS. CIJ 2004
-
Here is my beautiful Japanese Fender Aerodyne bass. It was crafted in Japan in 2004. It comes in a gorgeous deep aqua blue with a very sleek slim body. The bass has: 38 mm nut. Basswood body. P&J custom voiced pickups. Rosewood fretboard. Standard machine heads and bridge. Generic good quality hard case. it is excellent and l can’t find a mark on it. It plays, feels, sounds and looks amazing. The action is nice and low with no dead spots. l prefer cash on collection but I’m willing to post at the buyers expense. I prefer it if you arrange your own courier. No trades thanks. l would like £800 ONO please.

Funnily enough I edited that bit as it was 1979, and I thought maybe not so relevant…

Ah... I'd heard about the car crash but didn't realise it was that severe. That explains the sunglasses on later vids. It's a shame. GG's band seem to do a great job. I was going to try and see them at Gateshead next year but the only seats left are rubbish, and Paul Burgess has retired, so decided not to. Another to add to my all-too-long 'I wish I'd seen...' list.

tauzero replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
At the moment, the simultaneous best and worst is a Shuker Uberhorn 5 fretless - beautiful bass with an unplayably high action, bought at long range in a Gardiner Houlgate auction. The problem with the action is due to a mullered truss rod, so it is currently with Jon for a complete rebuild and conversion to 34" scale from 35". -

Zenmarket - Anyone used it to purchase from Japan (Digimart etc)?
madashell replied to cetera's topic in General Discussion
Hi, I just saw this thread. I'm looking tol buy a Greco Rickenfaker from Japan and I have the same issue. I know how much the bass is but Zenmarket can't/won't give me any idea as to what the shipping will cost BEFORE I buy it. That makes know sense to me as I've no idea what it'll ultimately cost incl import charges etc. More importantly I've no idea how much I've to lie to my wife and tell her what it'll cost! Granted I'm in Ireland so may vary cost wise but I'd imagine/hope it's simliar. Do you mind me asking what the shipping cost and how big the box was (if you have any remote ide?!). Thanks in advance, Matt -

PCI FireWire card. This has the chip set that works with audio interfaces (some firewire ports that came with PCs don't work with interfaces. Hence why I got this). Free + postage at cost. Or collect in Brighton.

AFAIK Stewart doesn’t approve of the group continuing. But then he is 80… Gouldman slightly younger. GG is definitely boss of the current iteration. He has a post-gig curry delivered to his own dressing room. Nice work if you can get it!

The judge isn't going to take into consideration anything which the defendant hasn't actually been previously convicted of. There is a possibility however that they may take a very dim view of an ongoing court case of which they have charge being discussed on a public forum. Having just completed a period of jury service and received multiple warnings of recent cases where jurors and others have been charged with contempt of court for interfering with cases through online activity, I thnk it's worth pointing out that judges take these things very seriously. lurksalot started following November Composition Challenge
-
Having shared the top step in October with @Al Nico , I wanted to get November started with a weekend ahead of us , so I took the liberty of choosing a quick holiday snap from last week. Its a 'fishing' village called Olhos de Agua on the Algarve , I say fishing, but its pretty much tourists, as the boats don't seem to move very often! Some lovely cliffs and beaches, oranges and lemons, and a billion hotels and apartment blocks. ✅ Entries must be <5 minutes and recorded between now and the deadline. ❌ No illegal samples, copyright infringements or other snide goings-on ❌ No Bagpipes, Please, I think they would suffer from the salty sea air and sound a bit off. ❌ No voting for your own entry. We'll know. And we'll shame you.. Deadline-wise, we will go for Midnight on the 24th November ... Which really means tea time on the 25th I suppose A line or two of blurb as usual for the vote thread will be super duper smashing lovely. Good luck, Have fun

I wonder what the root of that is..? Also, it puzzles me why Stewart has dropped out as much as he has. How someone as talented as that can just... stop... is really strange.

Your best (and worst!) bass gear purchases of 2025?
Owen replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
On the spur of the moment, I bought a Moog Sub Phatty. It appeared in the classifieds here and was "local" to where we were at the time. It turned our 5 hour journey home into an 8 hour journey. My wife is extraordinarily patient. I had been thinking about a small, monophonic synth for a long time and realised that the asking price was less than I would expect to spend on a bass. I have been messing with synth pedals for years, but this showed me that there is a reason keys played bass sounds different. Having all the controls in one place and accessible immediately has made playing and manipulating it very easy. Don't get me wrong, I am not doing Stevie Wonder bass (more is the pity) but I can do what I want with remarkable ease. It is SO much easier than doing a poor imitation on bass guitar. Am I going to keep it? I am not sure about that. Now that I have experienced it, I suspect that a midi keyboard running into Logic will provide all the synthy goodness I will ever need. But it is certainly my best ever impulse purchase. -
I'm sure that the original NTB 4 BXP, with the scooped lower horn, was 34" scale. I remember looking at the specs at the time and noticing the difference in scale length (something that stuck in my head). There's also a Talkbass thread (that I can't link to) with a couple of people who own scoop-fronted Grind BXP 4s which are 34".
