Ah well. It’s been on the cards for a good while. I haven’t been in the trade for a massive 11 years. But there was always a rumble towards the 2010’s - us or them, etc. I’ve said all of this before - but unless you have a USP, it’s a race to the bottom. Crap margins, massive overheads and having to pay people who knew what they were on about a decent living wage… Fender and Gibson are retailing from their own sites. Pointless really - the days of drooling over Les Paul’s or Precision basses on a Saturday Morning…on the whole…seem to be pretty numbered. We live in a world where the next generation of guitar and bass buyers are buying online and deciding online. Best wishes to all affected. It’s shite when these things happen. I do think Andertons seem to have the podcast come shop approach pretty much nailed on. I notice BD are doing the same type of thing. Normans and Chicago Music Exchange have been doing it well for years in the US. I tried to get my lot (Dawsons) into social media early doors - but in typical fashion, they got someone totally disconnected from the punters to do it…so it flopped… After I left, there were various ham fisted attempts - too little too late

3below started following Intonation set up on Cort B5 Element
-
I had a bass that would not intonate the G, to the point that I started to wonder if the bridge had insufficient adjustment. The cause was a duff string even though the string sounded fine. Worth trying, it seems highly improbable that the Cort has a fret distance problem.

BenTunnicliffe started following Aguilar Tone Hammer DI/PreAmp
-
Hi Everyone, Selling this used, unboxed Aguilar Tone Hammer DI/Pre as I have ended up with an (ever so slight) preference for a different floor-based DI. This Tone Hammer was my go-to for quite some time and had an owner before myself so it does have signs of normal use on the front, sides and rear. It used to have velcro on the back which I've removed and have lightly white-spirited it to get rid of the sticky mess. There is remnants of an old price sticker on the back (the red lines) which I've struggled to remove so will ship as-is. I think it's the remains of a Bass Direct price sticker which I think is where I bought this DI myself in person. The DI is fully working, all the knobs functioning, LEDs light up, both foot switches work and I've relatively recently powered it via Phantom as well as mains. See pics and do please have a look at the wear and tear before firing me a message so that you don't end up disappointed when it arrives. The item is with me in Petersfield, Hampshire, England and I am happy to meet you IRL or post it insured, included in the total cost of £120. Anything other than a local pickup we'd have to figure out something extra in terms of chipping in on the fuel please. I'd be open to hearing about any budget-but-named-brand fretless basses or P Basses you might be looking to get rid of, cash from my direction. Thanks for reading! Happy to answer any questions. Cheers, B

Up for sale is my sire five string, I really like this bass and the colour especially but I need to thin the herd! Great stingray on a budget really good quality for the money, it’s in really good condition no real marks to note. Collection from Chelmsford ideally as I don’t have a case or gig bag for it.

Even though PMT (and other big chains) have sadly shut down, music shops still seem to be viable in the UK. We have.... The specialists who sell just one type of instrument: eg The Gallery, selling nothing but basses and bass gear. Add to the list of specialists Just Flutes in Croydon, T A Craig (a violin shop in Sevenoaks), Laurence Dixon for Double bass, sax.co.uk The quirky: Hobgoblin, for folk instruments. Richards Guitars for high-end acoustic guitars and mandolins, with each instrument set up before it leaves the store. The traditional shops which provide excellent service: people here often commend single-store music shops, and which have built a good reputation. So, Rich Tone Music in Sheffield, and Rock Bottom in Croydon. As @SumOne describes them, such shops are "a go-to hub for musicians ". When I go shopping for an instrument, I want a seller who knows more about the item than I do - not someone who got a discount because they bought 20 boxes of guitars, and needs to shift them quickly.

very nice finish ... I got more or less a similar effect, using the raw linseed oil from liberon I found on sale in the hardware shop close by

Weird thing is, I am half way through a novel. I picked it up lunchtime and, two pages in, there is the word 'lugubrious'. Three times in one day? Who'd have thought it?

It's even worse. The E112 contains higher spec components than the K12 - larger voice coils in both the LF and HF drivers. I'd guess an honest power rating for the K12 would be 300 watts. Problem is, if they published the honest rating, nobody would buy them because the competition are pulling the same trick. 😀

I have a Pau Ferro fingerboard on my Sandberg Lionel and I love it! I've seen examples that look pretty pale and bland, but the one on mine is grainy and colourful and looks fantastic IMO. It's also not nearly as porous as rosewood, but much more dense like ebony.

Cre8audio West Pest Westcoast Style Standalone Semi Modular Synth Here’s my West Pest synth. It’s a design based on Don Buchla’s west coast style synthesiser concept. Made by Cre8audio in partnership with Pittsburg Modular. It’s got a built in sequencer and is very powerful for a small form single oscillator synth. It can be used as a standalone synth in its case with independent PSU (included) or added to a eurorack system. It can be patched with any modular eurorack or similar module or synth. In excellent condition. I own two with one in my eurorack so this isn’t getting the attention it deserves. Great little easy to use synth to introduce you to modular synthesis and patching. It comes boxed with four patch leads, PSU and quick start sheet. Full manual online. Price includes UK postage. Info here - https://www.cre8audio.com/westpest

Why does Thomann take so long to despatch?
nilebodgers replied to Jean-Luc Pickguard's topic in General Discussion
Their returns go to a UK address, so I suspect this is their distribution hub for out and back. -

Schnozzalee started following What is Pau Ferro like to play?

Indian Laurel is a shitter, which is why it hasn't been used before. In some countries it's know as 'dog turd deluxe' but I forget which. Pau Ferro however has been and as mentioned above, is between Rosewood and Ebony in terms of feel. I think it looks great in the flesh too and makes me regret not buying a Victor Bailey.
