  2. Harley Benton do a Brian May "tribute" guitar, which is supposed to be rather good, and better than the official models if you don't want to be dealing with all the fiddly phase switches, etc. They also do a bunch of "tribute" Strat-a-likes, includng a Hank Marvin one in Fiesta Red with gold hardware, and a Dave Gilmour one in black, with white pickups. They're all pretty cheap on Thomann too. I've not played those particular HB Strats, but I've played one of their regular ones and it's a bloody good guitar for £150. Basically, you could have a decent collection of tribute guitars for some of the UK's greatest guitarists for under £500!
  3. Wow! Nearly there, getting excited 😎👌🤣
  4. Reduced to £185 posted via RM SD.
  5. Sorry if this is a silly question, but have you tried it with a different bass? Could also be your output jack.
  6. For some reason, I always thought it was the great studio player, 'Larry Kimple'? He actually played with George Duke quite a bit around that period, Good luck getting to the bottom of that one...
  7. Welcome Reiver from another north of the border bassist 👍
  8. I love blue basses so much I often wonder why anyone would want another colour. 😂😂

  10. I had MAG and then the ABM Ashdowns for a while before going to TC partly to save on weight humping around but liked the tone and pre sets available on the RH750. I had an ABM 6x10 and i think 600 ABM head. The Ashdowns were quite popular in rehersal studios. I didnt like the BG stuff.
  11. Have I missed something in the text? How much you asking? I'm not far away - give me a tempting £ .. ah I've looked again you asking £110... but £119 new 🙄
  12. Look at the frequency response chart here, which is a typical high quality bass driver. Note the midrange that peaks at 2.5kHz. https://eminence.com/products/kappalite_3012ho#frequency-response
  13. Hello, Very cool little Boss modeller for sale. Sounds great but I'm just not a modelling guy, I'm admitting defeat---I just don't enjoy the process, as good as the results can be. Boxed, also comes with additional Bright Onion switch. £350 delivered please. Would consider trades for bass gear - amps, basses (J flavoured), whatever... In good condition, a few scratches on the bottom as pictured. Album with lots of photos here: https://imgur.com/a/9pniK6g

  15. Stop it, I'm skint!! Line6 has cable tone ... you can choose 6m or 12m! I can't hear any difference though. I don't even know what cable tone is supposed to sound like eek. I'm interested how the latency feels in a gig situation. NUX is a fraction more than the line6 - which is only ever a problem for me when I really go walkabout. Which i do occasionally. I still want one for when the Line 6 craps out which it has to eventually... its done hundreds of hours.
  16. Would consider pedal/ amp trades also Thanks Dave
  17. May God have mercy on your soul, heathen
  18. Well that's interesting. I've discovered that, when HT is applied, my nice negative bias voltage all but disappears, leaving the output valves to go full-on Fukushima. Which bit of this circuit is not a tried-and-tested design, but my own concoction? Yep, the bias supply. I consulted the writings of good old Merlin Blencowe, and discovered that my choice of component values may have left the output valves with too high a grid leak resistance. Time to re-design the circuit!

  20. I think of that tone being a pretty much flat Precision pickup, maybe some form of slight boost around 800 - 1000.
  21. You might want to mention scale-length? Just sayin'. GLWTS
  22. A tricky question. Your idea of what constitutes a 'woody' sound might be totally different to that of someone else. Might be an idea to drop a link in here to give folks an idea of the type of sound you're thinking of? A lot of the 'sound' of an electric bass comes from pickup type and where they are positioned on the instrument. Woods used in the construction can play a significant part in what the bass sounds like with or without amplification. String choice is another strong contender for tone alteration, not to mention whether you play using finger-style or plectrum/pick, or whatever. Even where you choose to pluck/strike the sting can make a huge difference to the sound produced. You asked about specific frequencies to bring out the 'woody' tone in your post. Assuming that you're using an amplifier and speaker set-up, I'd suggest that a 15"or even an 18" speaker might help you get nearer to what I have in my head for 'woody' tone - I have to revisit what I wrote above and underline, that your idea of the sound might be different from mine (or anyone else's). Further to amp settings, I imagine that lots of treble won't be what you're chasing and too much bass boost could lead to a muffled rumbling. Because of this, I'd recommend that you use an amp, if yours doesn't have this, where you can boost/cut low-mids a little. If you can get together with another BC member in your area, they might have an amp or two you could play through, to see if they can help you nail that sound. You don't say how long you have been playing, so forgive me if comments above seem basic. Maybe you're a veteran of the low-end with a PhD in Acoustics? No doubt, some here will agree with my comments and others will not. The only way to find the sound you're chasing in your head, is to try a variety of amps, speakers, equalisers, etc. Look on it all as an adventure and enjoy the journey. Very best wishes in your quest.
  23. Just a thought, but before you worry about eq, are you sure you have the gain set right, and that all of your Anagram patches are putting out the same level?
