  1. Past hour
  2. I was wondering what Yoko Ono was up to these days
  3. I've been lurking here for a while, so, I'd like to introduce myself now. I've been playing bass for 37 years and in bands for 35 of them. Due to lack of time, I've had to take breaks now and then, but I've never stopped playing. I've just started a new project with friends. Stylistically, I've almost always played in the realms of 80s indie pop/shoegaze and soul/rhythm and blues. You might be able to guess one of my favorite bands from my profile picture. My current instruments - both from the 90s - are a MIJ and a MIA Fender Precision Bass. Both with LaBella 760FL strings. The amp is an Ampeg PF-450 with the matching 15" cabinet, which I only use for practicing. I've been playing ampless for years. I'm a bit particular about pedals and have way too many, so my setup is always changing. Currently, the signal chain looks like this: Peterson StroboStomp HD - Diamond Bass Compressor - Origin Effects Bassrig Super Vintage. I hope that wasn't too detailed. Anyway, I'm looking forward to some interesting discussions.
  4. That has to be an AI-written article. All that repetition and bullet points.
  5. I like Sires, my first bass was / is a Sire also agree with others not to ignore fan-frets and weight also important in the long term, I would also consider headless as it help with weight and balance and has no real downside (unless you hate the look). My main bass is an Ibanez EHB1505 but I also regularly play my 4 string (non fan-fret) Sire/Musicman, fan frets look more 'different' than they actually feel to play, it doesn't take much adjustment to play and you will forget about it very quickly if my experience is anything to go by. If I were looking for a 5 string with a nice neck that is not heavy then personally would be looking at Ibanez EHB, Sire M6 or maybe Cort Artisan Space 5. If you like Sire's (which I also do) the M6 looks like a must try to me - if it had been out when I bought my Ibanez I might well have ended up with one instead but now very happy.
  6. Could not agree more with this! It's one of my favourite albums. Not just of the nineties, but ever. I saw them twice when they came over to the UK recently for the anniversary of the album. Unfortunately Dan didn't have a fretless bass (A green/turquoise Fender Jazz from what I could make out), but it still sounded ace. S So glad there's another fan of his out there!
  7. I got my standing ticket too. Decent chance Fearless Flyers will be opening which would be very cool.
  8. And here's a short demo vid for this amp - one of the best I've ever seen for any amp head! EBS 360 HD demo
  9. I guess I'll have to stick to my all maple Spectors - smaller body, less wood, less weight.
  10. In my experience, in terms of maple bodied Gibsonesque basses these weights are very reasonable, actually.
  11. Got my ticket! Haven't seen them before. Very exited already.
  12. Looks like the natural one will only be available on the Epiphone website (DTC): "Epiphone Mike Dirnt Grabber G-3, Natural, Exclusive" https://www.gibson.com/en-gb/products/epiphone-mike-dirnt-grabber-g-3-natural-exclusive The silverburst one is already available in several stores but looks to be a bit on the heavy side. All around 4.4kg 😞
  13. On Saturday we played at Gagarin205 in Athens - the venue looked fantastic lit up at night. Sadly I only have a daytime pic: and an aerial view of the soundcheck in moody black and white: and a view of the audience from the stage: We sold 1200 tickets. The venue was full. Punters were being turned away! We had a few technical gremlins but overall it was a successful (and profitable) adventure.
  14. That just looks like it has been reworked at some point, rather than it blowing there. I mean it might as it has clearly happened once before, but I wouldn't assume it was there unless you have checked and found it is. But then if it is, seems a simple enough fault to fix
  15. Sadly they no longer manufacture this. I've even bought a second one, they are so good that I don't want to lose what they do. Fundamentally they are designed to do one job and that is to mix live music for a typical pub/club band. You have extensive facilities but nothing that is superfluous but workflow is meticulously worked out to be simple for any poor sod who is mixing whilst playing. Zero problems with the wi-fi on the mixer though Apple have decided that you can't use an iPad without an internet connection for more than an hour. I need to stop it tethering to my phone in the middle of a gig. That's not the mixer's fault it's 'Apple knows best'
  16. Hi there, I'm interested in your upright bass, would you accept £300, I live in Tenby West Wales so would help cover the petrol :] Jason
  17. Bernard's a proper Basschat-er and we've done transactions in both directions. Deal with confidence!!
  18. Medium gauge - long scale. Apologies for any confusion. I have amended the title accordingly.
  19. This is my old pedal - it’s ace. If it’s still here month end I’ll have it back, no better envelope filter on the market unless you want to drop a mortgage payment on a Proton - great pedal
  20. How does this impact on Dynamic Pricing? This appears to only apply to resale, whereas Dynamic Pricing is where the real gouging happens.
  21. I remember smoked glass being fashionable at the time so I always linked the two in my head. Smoked glass burst. I was a fan then and still am, a bit. It's available as a finish now in the Mod Shop, but the matching pickguards ain't. Ian Martin Allison has a just-clean-enough 70s Jazz in this finish, with rosewood board and blocks/binding. I would have that off him in an instant, even if I then had to get the (presumably chunky) neck profile adjusted.
  22. Exactly that.
