An 16 ohm Orange cab. All I had was a 150 watt trannie, Marshall Bass/Lead head. I could hardly get any noise out of it at all and what I could get was pretty awful.

Sadly, I need to let go of my very special Spector NS Pulse II 5-string bass. Asking price is £1,000. I replaced the Tone Pump Jr pre-amp with a multi-coil filtering pre-amp from Lusithand Devices. Stock EMG pickups, not had a chance to swap them out with an actual multi-coil pickups but sounds amazing even without. If you are after the Wal sound, this setup will get you very close. Excellent condition, no scratches or dings, low action, no buzz, straight neck etc. UK buyers only. I'd prefer collection in person, but happy to post it via UPS or similar service (no evri) at the buyer's expense. Hard case included in price. Any questions, let me know! Specs: Body Wood: Solid Swamp Ash Neck Wood: 3-piece Roasted Maple; Bolt on Fretboard: Macassar Ebony Number of Frets: 24 Inlays: Dots Nut: Graphite Nut Width: 1.75" Scale: 35" Neck: EMG 40DC Bridge: EMG 40DC Bridge: Hi-mass Locking Tuners: Sealed Die-cast String Spacing at Bridge: .66"

My first rig was some kind of huge reflex cab and a Marshall hundred watt head. The cab sucked , today I wish I had kept that old head. I auditioned for a touring band , and as I was the only one at the audition I got the spot. Traded a Nikon camera for a Pbass. And I was off. Touring was just the local circuit , around and around , lousy food , cheap hotels , it eventually became a misery and I left. But I continued playing bass.

It's simple. All you need to know. . . . you need a 500 watt D class amp. It will be loud enough for any gig and rehearsal and it will weigh around 5lbs.

Exactly what I was thinking!

Bought a Laney Digbeth preamp from Dave after posting a wanted ad. Super quick and easy to deal with, superb comms. Many thanks!

In general no, but consider Jaco. His Acoustic 361 cab was not only loaded with an 18 but it was also a front loaded folded horn, a design that attenuates upper mids and highs. He didn't get stinging pop and slap highs, but what he got was still mighty good. It's but one more example of why one cannot generalize results based on driver size alone other than dispersion.

Just bought Dunc's Presonus mixer. Great deal, well packed (he must have shares in bubble wrap!🤣). Great comms and kept me up to date when Parcelforce decided to introduce a detour. 👍 Much appreciated and would easily deal with again. Thank you.

Good idea in principle but not all guitars are identical, with woods being a natural product. Then if they’re second hand it’s how they’ve been treated, one could have a warped neck and never been setup, the other looked after meticulously. if it was me and I was spending that sort of money, the trips would be worthwhile but I also know these models tend to sell fairly fast.

Tube versus SS watts has been covered here ad nauseam to the extreme. I'm sure you're just trying to be helpful but what you're saying has been covered here in detail going back over dozens of threads for as long as this forum has existed. -
Thanks Crazycloud. That’s exactly what worries me, especially with the Thumb.

You’ll be fine. I’ve got 2 wicks with bell brass frets and a couple of basses with stainless steel ones, and I only use D’addario XL nickels, no worries at all. I’ve used stainless steel strings a couple of times and I don’t think you need to worry about excessive fret wear.

Putting up my natural gloss Spector CST5 . I’ve got two of these wonderful basses and one of them isn’t getting enough playing time .Bought in October 2024 from Bassdirect it’s had minimal use and is in fantastic condition. It’s a stock bass so comes with EMGX pickups in a PJ configuration with Darkglass legacy preamp . Also a Spector gigbag is included. Would consider a trade . MTD , Status or similar 5 strings. No fanned fret as I already have a Dimension 5
