It all depends on context. If a mistake doesn't detract from the final article then you're not going to rerecord it. Back in the day you'd have to spend hours physically cutting and splicing tape, it was easier to recored the whole piece again. Then with ADAT you could find bits and punch in. The last recording I did (using pro-tools) I made one audible mistake, really bad wrong note. It was fixed using auto-tune in seconds. The same note length, accent, everything, just the pitch altered for that single note. Miming is not a problem if it's Top of the Pops. The technology and time constraints meant rotating and sound checking 10 bands for a 30 minute program wasn't practical and the idea was to showcase a single, not the band. Many singles would never have been reproduced live. If I'm going to see a live show, I want to see no miming(singing or playing), whether it's a band in a pub, Madonna or a West End Show. Others may expect something else. I'd rather watch Maddonna (or others of that style) sing and dance less than dance more and mime. That's what the dancers are for. My brother has seen both Prince and David Gray restart songs because of various issues. That's live music for you. And people should be upfront about it.

As a way too ebay influenced (as in i really shouldnt have bought this many but ebay helped..a lot ) buyer/seller/collector/playerI have owned a LOT of basses (possibly over 200). And i have a few sellers regrets in my 45 years of bassist shenanigans. So occasionally i land up re-purchasing basses previously sold.. But there are a few that I just dont see ever come up for sale...rarity or just held onto by happy owners..who knows? Yamaha series 1 TRB 'slapcut'. Awesome basses, Japanese build quality. I had the rare Jazz pickup layout version. Owned it for 14 years and rather dumbly (is that a word?) sold it. Never seen that model since. Dammit. Any of the x series of the budget Yamaha BB's. I have owned 4 and 5 string versions, managed to snag a 424x but you hardly see them for sale, they are brilliant. Washburn Force 42. Headless 80s bass. Never seen one for sale since the 80s As a collector i'd likely buy any of the above without even planning to gig them (although i do take the 424x out for the odd gig or two see below..) Any basses you hanker after yet never see on the for sale board?

Is anyone able to comment on the Anagram's screen brightness, particularly outdoors in sunlight? Whilst I'm not expecting 1,000+ nits brightness like my iPhone, it would be good to know if it's more visible than my Helix LT screen, which may as well be turned off when I get to play outdoors. PS, I hope one day multi-effects manufacturers use colour e-ink displays instead!

That sounds like a deep, metallic flanger to me. Also sounds like it's just sweeping, not hearing any envelope triggering personally. Could be the MXR rack or pedal flanger, or an EHX Deluxe Electric Mistress, or even an A/DA flanger? I know they're all capable of producing that deep, metallic sound.

To be fair, my loud, at 73 is not stupid loud and the trouser flap is caused by the velocity of air leaving the port on an LFSys Monaco. The port is at knee height and standing in front of it you really can’t feel it, of course, with a long slot port like on a Barefaced, you would not get that concentrated draught of air.

Thinking about it... my comparison would have between an official version while the YouTube one could gave been a user upload even one sourced from vinyl, tape and ripped using unknown settings.

When listening to comparisons on YouTube etc, I use a decent set of headphones. It shows up most things, even via Bluetooth (my cans are Bluetooth or Wired). However I do agree that phones or laptop speakers are no use for comparisons.

I've been watching this and am impressed by your skills and craftsmanship, I'm no luthier but as a mechanical engineer i thought I'd offer some ideas as an alternative to the spike nuts. I've used the spike nuts before and have never been impressed with how they hold into the wood when the bolt is removed (or the quality of the metal but that might just be the cheap ones I've encountered.) for this situation the standard engineering solution where i work (engineering R+D department) would be a nut plate, for this particular case a small plate of steel with 2x M8 tapped holes would be used, 10mm thick by about 20 wide would be plenty, and to hold it in place a third smaller tapped hole (M5 is probably enough) could be added to hold it in place when the neck is removed (a recessed bolt in the neck pocket of the body) for materials I'd go with mild steel and grade 8,8 bolts, a coat of paint on the steel would be enough to keep corrosion at bay, I'd avoid Stainless steel as it is prone to galling and difficult to drill and tap compared with mild steel. i will try and make a sketch to show the arrangement Matt

This is clearly different from the 'repro' tuners. The notch is square. I'd hypothesise that originally a length of strip was cut into tapered blanks in a guillotine. These would then be die-cut at each end to round them off. If the blank was originally cut slightly wide then the thin end would be cut like this. The wider end would not be noticeably affected due to the different shape. Indeed the double 'flare' seems deliberately chosen to allow for some variation. As the blanks would be cut in batches, it seems reasonable that, if the guillotine was also used for other jobs, or had to be reset after sharpening, the effect would change between batches. As all tuners would be considered the same, one would expect batches to get mixed up... You could write a PhD thesis about this...
