  2. I bought this a couple of years back and did it up. It was professionally set up and restrung but I am just not using it. We were playing 80s alternative songs on folk instruments BUT I quickly got sick of taking several instruments to gigs and seem to have settled on using less. I added the fitted case, bought brand new from Gear 4 Music. The action is pretty decent and these are loads of fun / easy to play. I have it strung G-D-A-E but you can tune it C-G-D-A or like the top 4 strings of a guitar. Happy to meet Swindon - Newbury way which can be discussed via DM. Thanks for looking.

  3. This came up on another forum, and the advice from several experienced electrical engineers was that a better and more permanent contact between the screw terminal and the wire conductor was achieved if you did not tin the wires, because the copper strands can compress and essentially cold weld to the terminal under the pressure from the screw.
  4. Oh Well - Fleetwood Mac
  5. Deep sadness, I met him once, one of the loveliest people ever RIP , one of my favourite songs
  6. I did that once with The Skids song Into the Valley where i had to de-tune the E to D for that song and forgot to tune it back up again. Played the next song like that and no-one even noticed. Same song, different night, i had it in my head that i de-tuned to Eb rather than D and once again no-one but me noticed. Just goes to show if you play with absolute confidence everyone will thing you're right. Even when wrong. 😂 Dave
  7. I wish they did these with the Wimbish neck profile - I'd have had one already - to go with my own Sandberg superlight! Crazy idea - is it worth asking Shuker or someone for a quote to reprofile the neck?
  8. There’s plenty on here and elsewhere about how good these things are. I’m a bit gutted at moving it on truth be told, but my left shoulder has recently become a lot more knackered than it was and I’m finding shorties a lot easier and more comfortable to play and as a result this just isn’t getting used of late. Ive had it a couple of years (picked it up via BC) and it’s only had occasional rehearsal room use so it’s in great nick. I’ve switched the knobs out as these look cooler, but the originals are in the case and will be supplied too. Comes in a Gator case that’s both perfectly functional and necessary! Think the RRP for these is at nearly £700 now and the cases an extra ton. Moving in at the price I paid (as I remember) in the spirit of BC. Not looking for trades on this though. I haven’t got a box to accommodate this and wouldn’t really want to post anyway I’m afraid so will have to limit to collection or fairly local meet-up for now. I’m located just by j7 of the M6. Cheers.

  9. price drop £50+postage Falken 1 Mega Power Bank Bought 18 months ago to power my pedal board, worked perfectly. Will easily last a long gig, with 3 pedals it was lasting 10 hours or so before it was empty. Velcroed to bottom of board, saves faffing about with power. Charges via USB phone charger. Paid £103 from Thomann. £70 including UK postage.
  10. Don't know if this belongs here, but it's a Mustang-ish bass so I'll post it anyway. An acquaintance of mine bought a bass for his 12 year old daughter and asked me to set it up and see if the electronics or hardware needed replacement. It was one of these Harley Bentons: He put some Labella Low Tension flats on it himself, and the bass was...magnificent. Finish, fretwork, electronics, setyp, everything was tip top. Not even for the money, just as an instrument. If you need an affordable short scale bass, get yourself one of these. It's only €229 at Thomann and if I didn't have my vintage Mustang, I'd seriously consider buying one.
  11. Aye! We've played there a number of times. And you can park right outside!
  12. Safe travels on the other side for the legend that is Jimmy Cliff.
  13. Busking (not buskers, but the idea of busking fills me with an irrational dread, stages, pubs, studios no problem but busking 😱😱😱😱 and I need to do some as I'm skint)
  14. I bought a Marcus Miller Jazz Bass from another basschatter (who's ID I cannot remember for love nor money), I went to collect it from Birmingham area I think. When I arrived I gave it a go and when I was ready to leave, I removed the strap and passed it back to the guy - he returned it and said I could keep it - it was a really nice Fender branded Levy's strap with Dunlop straplocks - I was well chuffed he'd offered me the strap as I really wasn't expecting it. Still have the strap to this day and have since bought a couple more.
  15. Here's the Cort GB Short scale I snagged at the weekend. It's truly phenomenal other than the neck dive :
  16. For those looking at a strap pouch for the transmitter I can highly recommend the Heistercamp. https://www.heistercamp.co.uk/product/transmitter-pouch/ I had them make one to fit my Minotaur wide padded straps. I've been using mine for nearly a year now. It's great!
  17. Wow, gorgeous. Sort of fortunately, I really struggle with the ergonomics of Spector long-scales but the weigh of this sort of defies belief and a fantastic finish!
  18. Reluctantly letting go of my beautiful Spector RST Euro bass. I never thought I’d part with this, but after months of reflection, I’ve realised I reach more often for the jazz-width neck of my Sandberg Superlight, but other than the neck, I prefer everything about the Spector! This lovely Spector RST Euro in Sienna Stain Matte was my first step into the world of ultralight basses, weighing in at only 6.5lbs. If you’ve ever struggled with back or shoulder issues, you’ll know how much of a game-changer that is and despite its featherweight build, it’s packed with quality: Aguilar pickups paired with the OB2 preamp deliver a vast palette of tones. I tried a Sadowsky pre for the passive options, but quickly returned to the OB2 – it just sings. Plays like a dream, with effortless versatility for live or studio work. The first basses I've ever had to raise the action, as it was so buzz-free low. Visually, it really is a stunner – a roasted neck, lightweight Gotoh tuners, a brass nut, MoP inlays, sleek lines, and a premium finish that oozes quality craftsmanship. Like all lighter woods, it’s picked up a few honest gigging dings, but nothing that affects playability or vibe. Bought from BassBro about a year ago for around £1,800, and it's worth every penny. Comes with the official Spector gig bag. Full Spector specifications here: https://www.spectorbass.com/product/euro-4-rst/ In reflection of the used market and the few dings, I'll sell for £1,300 – an absolute bargain for this calibre of instrument, and if it doesn't sell, I won't be too upset! I'm in Plymouth - Devon, and around the Bristol area last weekend of Nov. Happy to discuss courier options if needed, not really interested in trades other than a Markbass M58R 12" @ 8 ohm cab, or the same type M58R cab 2x10" but @ 4 ohm, plus cash my way. ....having just checked back for typos, I may change my mind about this sale 😂

  20. It looks weirdly good under odd Stage lights , taken this weekend 😛

  22. Pickup coil width is a fascination to me! (I know, I know: get a life!). I'd like a shortie stingray, but with a pickup that is smaller so all the relative dimensions are the same. I'd love to find out if I can hear a difference. With the usual pickup on a shortie the pickup is sensing a higher percentage of the string than on a 34 scale. Aguilar and Nordy do thin Bart sized soapbars with separate lines of polepieces, although they are doubles and not the 1 large pole as on a 'ray pickup. Maybe one day I'll get someone to make one... and then discover I can't hear the difference and I've wasted £500 on a custom pickup!
  23. Damn this sounds good with my maple/rounds P; I may just try to find a way to keep it.
  24. Cheers. Rare indeed; in fact it took me a couple of years constant searching to find that version of the cab loaded with a Fane 15 driver to match with my Series 6 1215 combo.
  25. Mine is passive too, and with the much heavier ash body. I do feel the pickup in mine sounds fairly modern and powerful. In fact, the previous owner sold the bass for sounding too modern. He tried a different pickup in it (Fender Custom Shop '62 P reissue) but that didn't give him the desired results either. The ash body is very dense and incredibly heavy, even when compared to some of my longscale basses with fullsize bodies. When I bought the bass there was a set of flatwounds on it that I didn't like at all - they were very boomy, and very unbalanced (the E was overly loud and thuddy even after adjusting pickup height, the rest was more or less OK). I played it with Ernie Ball shortscale Slinkies for a while, and currently have LaBella 043-104 on it which are perfect. I think the E and A sounding bigger than the D and G might be due to it being a shortscale: since the pickup is the same size as on a longscale bass, the treble coil is closer to the bridge relative to the scale length than it would be on a longscale. With the LaBella's it's not an issue for me.
