  1. Past hour
  2. Bought Wills EBS cab, very straightforward and pleasant handover in the service station BC tradition. Thanks!!
  3. I've got a 2012 Am St Jazz with the Custom Shop pickups that I bought new at the time. Sounds as good as any Jazz I've ever played, vintage, boutique, Custom Shop or whatever. The neck profile is a bit of acquired taste, but I get used to it after half an hour or so. Otherwise the best Jazz Bass ever for me.
  4. I've received the pm and replied.
  5. Plastic Man - Kinks
  6. I only now spotted this thread. I have a Workingmans 12 - I assume that it is an early one, as it has a 3-digit serial number. I used it at church - 250 seat capacity, drum kit. Although we have a PA, and the SWR WM 12 has a DI out into that PA, most of the sound was from the stage. It sounded a bit breathless and shouty because it was working hard to fill the room, and to manage the low B. However, the gig didn't demand lots of trouser-flapping bass - instead, it gave me the musicality and definition that I needed It remains a great amp, which I still use for gigs. No plans to sell it on And to think that I am only up the road from you - I am in Swanley, albeit 6 years too late. Sorry that I couldn't give you a demonstration when you were searching.
  7. Never used D’Addario bass strings much other than some XLs briefly on a short scale I didn’t keep for long. Bought some XT on here, fitted today and trying to play the fresh string zing and squeak out of them. Just wondering what the difference is between their rounds. XL seem to be standard, not sure what NYXL offers, and XT has some sort of corrosion resistant coating, but the coating isn’t particularly smooth. That said, I’ve been going back and forth between Fender 9050 flats & GHS Pressurewounds, so most nickel rounds are gonna feel cheese grater like I suppose. What’s meant to be the smoothest feeling D’Addario round? Which have you tried and liked or disliked for whatever reason? I’m not insistent on staying with D’Addario, just curious as I’ve never played their bass strings much. Also the XT might be fine once they’ve settled in, but one video I saw had them dying off pretty fast. Suppose really I’m just after a nickel round that’s as smooth as possible. Is the Elixir Nanoweb coating very smooth feeling? GHS Pressurewounds are definitely quieter in terms of finger squeak, but I’m not a massive fan of the feel of them and they’re also a bit too middy for me, where I want something more well balanced all round. Appreciate any replies
  8. Sorry Dan, I somehow hissed your post. Just message me if still want to buy. Thanks.
  9. Hey peeps, looking to buy a pedalboard and power supply but as it’s new to me the would like some advise. My pedal will be a tuner, empress compressor, zoom ms-60b+ or ms-70cdr+, genzler 4 on the floor and ditto x2(may change to ditto+ as smaller). Not looking for a silly expensive pair. I have read about noise. How do you guarantee you get no noise? I’ve seen some cheap ones like lekato https://amzn.eu/d/5zJ1Moz what the best approach to this. I get overwhelmed by loads of options easily. oh and cables what to use? I have seen some come with cables. cheers
  10. Bought some vintage Ashdown stuff from @harrison and all went very smoothly. Excellent comms, quick transaction, and very happy with the deal. A sound bloke to do business with, many thanks, DG.
  11. Playing some Duane Stephenson today , and I was looking up his backing band , Next Generation Family, who I think are really good, Sumalee Berlinger is the bass player
  12. Selling this great outboard bass preamp on behalf of my friend Alex Lofoco. The preamp is currently in Rome and can be shipped from there or from London when Alex comes over next. This is the original Sadowsky Outboard preamp which was built by Fishman - this particular unit was made on Dec 14th 1992 and and includes a belt/strap clip and a battery compartment. Any questions, let me know!
  13. Bend Me, Shape Me - The Outsiders (original version!)
  14. Can't see any reason that either of them would not be able to receive messages, or you not able to send them. Try again and see if it was some temporary passing gremlin?
  15. I've got the Harley Benton AirBorne, £44 (although you'd need to pay £10 delivery unless you can spend over £150). Works flawlessly, and the battery is great. Lovely wee case too. They do feel a touch flimsy but ive had them for a while and they're still going strong!
  16. Price drop bump. Very cheap for this old skool combo but am moving house soon and would prefer someone else gets the use. I’ll be up around Newbury way next Saturday if that helps with a meet up. Cheers.
  17. Eeek! I used to have one of the mains plugs that worked by removing a light bulb but only as a curio.
  18. At last, my very own 'signature' model!
  19. My iPad charger kind of has that...
  20. Today
  21. Is there any reason for going for a combo rather than separates?
  22. Back at it after a weekend off, with Nine Lives at The Railway Club in Keith. A weird one - I wasn't feeling 100%, had been fighting a lurgy for the past few days but had got myself to the "you'd be well enough to go to work" type state so I decided to go for it. Unfortunately, it wasn't very busy - probably an effect of the Greece vs. Scotland game being live on the Beeb. Things got a bit better in the second half, we had people sporadically come through from the bar area to see us for a few songs then bog off back to the bar. Yet we were still treated to some chair dancing and acrobatics/tumbling. How odd! It was more interesting from the gear point of view, as this was the first time I had taken my Jack Casady out to a gig since I finally got a replacement coil and fitted it. Happy to report that it is back to its normal self - capable of generating feedback, but in a controlled way (instead of reacting simply to being in the same room as a not very loud amp, as was when the dodgy coil was in there). There was a sustained note for 4 bars during one song during which the JC did a lovely slow feedback buildup - became noticeable around bar 2 and built up gracefully (and quite musically) but never to annoying levels. Chopped it dead at the next bar. Loved it. My JC is back doing its JC thing. Gear was the Epiphone gang (Jack Casady then Thunderbird) into the cubist wasps.
  23. 100% agree. I think that whole 2012–2016 run of American Standard basses with the Custom Shop pickups is some of the best output Fender has ever made. I’ve got three other lovely vintage basses, but I’ve had my oly white 2013 Jazz for three months now and haven’t wanted to touch anything else, and I really don’t think that’s going to change. It’s fantastic in every way.
  24. We played the Wheatsheaf in Calne last night with the drummer from our first band, 35yrs back. We’ve reunited a handful of times in recent years and it’s both nice to have a real drum beat & good to have 60% of my Sixth Form band back together. We’re just so comfortable in each other’s skin. I thought we played well. I was on my mandocello for 90% of the show and there were flashes of us all being really on it at times. The two bands who were on after us both came up after and said “how are we supposed to follow that?”, which was typical of the ego free and friendly nature of this multi band gig, raising money for Bristol Children’s Hospital. For the record, music has never been about competition and both bands did their thing well. I was particularly impressed with some of the earlier bands who were so young. I was talking to some 17yr old bassist who really impressed me and it’s so good to see that generation getting out there and doing it. A great day.

    Donner Pocket Go

Just pulled the trigger on one of these. Thought it sounded interesting, worth a punt for the price. Anyone else have any experience of this? I'm expecting it to be very guitar oriented, but I'm sure there'll be usable stuff in there. https://uk.donnermusic.com/products/donner-pocket-go-portable-preset-pedal-multi-effects-processor-for-guitar
  26. So, the answer seems to be "get something with more power, and more bass-presence, and turn it down at home" That makes sense - certainly, it is was what I did. My Laney 30 watt amp upgraded to a 100 watt SWR Workingman 12. I gave away the Laney when I realised that the SWR functioned as a band amp and a home amp too.
  27. 7/8 madness with Tim Lefebvre on bass. Donny McCaslin - Faceplant Described on the interwebs as jazz virtuosity with raw, aggressive, punk-like visceral energy, flat-out aggressive, pushing its intensity "far into the red".
