  1. Past hour
  2. Not sure the East option is going to work as their stock seems very low plus no response so have found myself rather interested in the Luthisand Double NFP which will also drop straight in https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/product/lusithand-double-nfp-jazzplate-updated/ Any experience?
  3. I feel it makes a difference, I made my own hpf so it wasn't expensive and has no impact on anything above a low B so it's worth it as an insurance policy. It does reduce cone flap when I put the bass down or put my had across the strings. I don't know if I get the promised extra headroom as my kit is usually just ticking over anyway.
  4. I've messaged John re a preamp I'm looking to buy ASAP as well as putting my name on the wait list for another less urgent purchase several months back and had no reply to either. Stock on his site also seems very low as does stock of East units at Bass Direct. It's a shame but I'll be looking elsewhere, probably Luthishand
  5. Oof! What a beautiful thing. I've never seen one of these before, but Atelier Z is a very trustworthy and classy brand. GLWTS.
  6. No question they have their uses, but a few years ago we were all convinced we HAD to get one to hear a big improvement. Many found they had no need for one.
  7. "I couldn't care if I'm soloing in Ab major or O type positive as long as I'm shredding it dude"
  8. If you can hear it, it's not an hpf solvable issue. It's when you see the cone making big movements without much sound. I've seen big cone excursions from surprisingly gentle handling. Also, I want to be able to play an open E or even a low B without worrying when I have an octaver in circuit. So I just have an hpf on my pedal board and am reasonably sensible when playing without effects.
  9. Ahh man this is like 10 miles away from me and I'm deep in my P-bass era.
  10. Off topic but what did you move on to the Helix to?
  11. At one point I had two matching 4u Gator racks. One had my bass rig in (a wireless and Helix). I needed this rack for every gig we played. The other housed my mixer and bluetooth music player. I only needed this rack when we were providing our own sound. Guess who showed up to a festival an hour away from my house with the one, wrong rack? I've long since moved on from the Helix but the mixer rack is still in use and still has several large '2' stickers on it just so I can tell it apart from the long gone '1' rack with the Helix in. Hey, at least I learned my lesson to label things clearly.
  12. The venue should be controlling the volume. There's another thread from a couple of weeks back where people are complaining that venues are being forced to stop playing loud music due to compliants from neighbours, even though the music venues were there first. Just because you were there first, doesnt give you carte blanche to act as you please.
  13. I used to always mod my instruments in my teens and 20s - putting a Precision pickup on a Jazz Bass, EMGs on a Rickenbacker 4003, Seymour Duncans in my Jazzmaster (although that was a swap, no mods needed), installing a pickup selector switch on the same Jazz and then changing it to a blend knob. It was a popular thing to do in the 70s and 80s, I stopped all that in the early 1990s. It just dawned on me: "Do you really think you know better than Leo Fender or <fill in the blank pro designer>?" I'm now kind of mortified I ever did those things....especially to that Rickenbacker. Presumably it's still out there somewhere. Although I did swap out that old Precision pickup in the Jazz for a Bruce Thomas from Bass Centre a few years ago, so I guess I can still be persuaded.
  14. Couldn’t understand why I was getting no difference with my preamp set to “bypass” or “on. Spent the whole gig perplexed and convinced my hearing was shot. Nope, plugged into the “thru” output not the “effect” output. 😀
  15. I love this stuff. This is the complete Hans Glawischnig bass part for the tune 'Taigo Salsa' from the 2019 Miguel Zenon album, 'Sonero: the music of Ismael Rivera'. Puerto Rican Latin in 9:4! What more can you ask for! https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/traigo-salsa-miguel-zenon/
  16. "Hot lick" is a horrendous expression 😂
  17. Got this in a trade on here recently but it’s just not got much use. Between the green Russian and the grey stache that I own I have my fuzz needs covered. This one is two big muffs running in parallel, one of them has a standard tone control, the other has a mid boost/cut. Certainly a lot to play with and a lot of sounds to be gotten out of it! No original box with this but will be packaged securely. Price will include postage in the UK
  18. An easy trial is to put fuzz/flanger/chorus to the bridge pickup and keep the neck pickup as is. If you have two amps, fx sound could go to the weaker one as it will be heard over those clean basses. X-over acts pretty much the same.
  19. @jf56hawk thanks a million, that's my answer. Got flats on my j bass for the last year with no change coming up 😐
  20. Oooooh I like this game. The good: Sansamp. I wanted a more old school sound and the internet peer pressured me into buying a sansamp. I went for the paradriver, fearing the mid scoop of the bddi, and I absolutely love it. It's the only thing I've profiled on my QC. Countryman Type 85. In the early days TB told me I'd need a di box. They also told me that the countryman was the best. They were kind of right. It's been 20 years and it's the longest serving piece of gear I own. The bad: B string. Fives have extended range, they're more versatile, everything you can do on a four you can do on a five. Humbug. My first Stingray, a realisation of my dream bass, my crowning achievement as a bassist, custom made for me by ebmm, all wasted by ticking the five string box on the form. If that bass had been a four I'd still have it for sure. Quad cortex. I like modellers, that's the best modeller. Right? Still not convinced it's as good as my helix was.
  21. Last gig I connected to our A&H CQ mixer with the CQ4U app on my phone. Pretty much set it and left it with just a few tweaks. Great for me as we were using an electronic kit. Maybe OTT for small pub gigs but I wouldn’t be without it now. Takes a lot less space than having floor monitors and I can hear what I need. 🤷‍♂️
  22. Problem I have is that dressing like a tart in a Glam band means most punters think I’m a roadie once out of stage wear so I never get the hero worship I deserve 🤣🤣🤣
  23. I can tap this hot lick in both A minor and C major dude
  24. If you want fuzz this will give it to you in spades. A few marks and some velcro on the back but otherwise it's in good condition. I'm having a clearout at the moment as I haven't been in a band for a few years now, otherwise I'd be keeping it. I'm afraid I can't find the box but it will be packed well when posted.
  25. ped

    Fretless pedal

Yeah that’s the sort of thing I was thinking of but then I saw a used version of the Soul Mate which seems to offer a similar set of features plus some useful additions. I really like FKY audio stuff (Had the Meridian Funk-u-lator made by the same guy but for Meridian guitars) so I’ll check out some more demos of it.
