  1. Past hour
  2. I’ve just measured the Bex. 55mm at the 12th, 63mm at the heel.
  3. 'He’s regarded as a force of nature in his native Wales'. Great quote
  4. Isn't it nice when you think 'an xxxxx would be handy', and you find it not only exists, but is even better. I felt the need for a Speakon adaptor, for custom lengths and not to be caught out by a wide stage or awkwardly placed monitor again. Yes, they exist! I found cheap copies sold in fours or pairs, but given the application forked out for proper Neutrik. It's lovely, and turns out to have a locking sleeve so you can safely leave it attached to one end of a cable.

  6. This seems to be a reoccurring theme in amateur bands the world over. I deduce from this repetitive complaint that most guitarists are knobs, and most singers are over confident in their abilities.
  7. Blues for Los Angeles - Bill Frisell
  8. You're very kind Jack, you'll be pleased to hear I'm currently building an uber-lightweight active aluminium 5-string fretless Fodera copy. I'll be in touch
  9. Def, if you like the sound of one cab doubling up on it imo induces a very silly grin, an almost "I can`t believe it" sort of thing.
  10. Just remember to take out the bit where it opens, “Sure, I can help you write a diplomatic breakup note for a band whose guitarist is a massive bell end and singer can’t hit a note for toffee”.
  11. Hi Laura, As Prowla says, learning to read bass clef notation would definitely help. I usually start students on a simple Double Bass method - your Yamaha electric bass is basically a double bass turned on it's side - like "Team Strings" or "Strictly Strings". That will give you a good and simple grounding to not only reading, but learning where the basic notes are on each string. I then move players onto "The Literate Bassist" by Fred Paterno. That's a great book that takes you through line development in various styles. Use LH fingers 1-2-4, covering only three fret spaces below the 7th fret. Above this point, you can change to one finger per fret. Practice your RH walking with index and middle fingers, experimenting where you like the sound best. (I usually go for mid way between the pickups.) Best of all, you live in Michigan - Joe Dart country. Seek him out for some lessons.
  12. Bought a Backbeat off Alex, great comms, exactly as described and well posted too. Thanks Alex!
  13. Beautiful ballad with Ron Carter on bass. Arco, Pizzicato, Harmonics, power chords,... it's all in there Roberta Flack - The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face
  14. In a stoner doom band this would be a sackable offence.
  15. I assume he's refering to Cherenkov radiation, which is not only blue and sci-fi looking but is the result of some pretty awesome physics. It is also a FABULOUS name to put on the headstock! "Cherenkov FTL Bass" in a Fender-esque script. For the reason behind "FTL bass" see the explanation here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cherenkov_radiation
  16. Have me had Stiff Little Mingers? or Pubeway Army?
  17. Wow, he’s certainly reduced his options for a night out in our part of the world!
  18. IMO if 1 cab sounds good, 2 cabs always sound better. You move more air which can make you louder, but more importantly improves your tone.

  21. Go on then - £700, which is what I paid for it before adding the upgrades! There's a lot of Bass here for that!
  22. Not really helping with the question, but I am looking for the same info but for a different reason. I built a bass vi using a 30 scale bass neck, hence a 62.5mm heel width, which provides a more user friendly string spacing than the normal vi arrangement. Now I want to repeat the process with a semi acoustic or hollow body, but very few have info on string spacing except at the nut. So I guess 55mm at the 12th will mote or less equate to 62.5 or 2.5 inches at the heel?
