  1. Past hour
  2. I was very tempted by the XS-100 - having presets to scroll through would make it super useful live. But as I already have an expression pedal and wanting to go for something compact I've ended up with the XS-1, hopefully arriving in a couple of days. Our Alto singer is very excited about this opening up more of our set list to her and I'm equally excited about not having to learn songs in different keys!
  3. This is a beautiful Fender American Elite in a tobacco sunburst with a maple neck and mother of pearl (I believe) inlays. Sounds fantastic but as I'm ageing I'm getting pains in my fretting hand and drifting back to 4 strings as that seems to aggravate it less. Its in 9.965 out of 10 condition, just a couple of slight marks to the surface of the varnish on the back from a zip, only visible if you hold it at the right angle in a bright light. Comes with a case which is in excellent condition. Collection from Tunbridge Wells, or meet up in London for £15 contribution to my train fare. Possibly could meet up by car depending on distance. If you want it it sent you'd have to arrange your preferred courier and I accept no responsibility once it leaves my possession.
  4. Darkglass price drop
  5. Amaze your friends and embarrass your guitarists by bringing more pedals than them to practice! All you'll need to experiment with confusingly long signal chains, in one convenient package! Almost unused (never gigged) Pedaltrain Classic JR with Truetone 1Spot Pro CS12 power supply mounted and ready to go. Comes in its soft case with kettle lead and pedal power leads (not patch leads). Rough side velcro applied. £200 Inc UK postage "Like a multi-effects pedal, but less convenient!" - me, after spending £300 on a pedalboard and power supply
  6. This is epic helpful. I’m away at an event in London for the next few days, but if I’m still this excited about it when I get back, I’m ordering an XS-100!
  7. Price Drop To £325
  8. They have a stealth version. How’s that eq sounding @dub_junkie have you tried previous Dingwall models to compare? I think many of us are dying to hear how that neve bass boost sounds!
  9. Yes, very enjoyable! I was surprised Marcus Mumford was there. But more surprised at the ‘lack’ of any Fenderyness. I thought it would be a prime occasion to whip out something vintage but everyone went ‘super clone’!
  10. I've come across bands that are musically awful*, but do well because they play what people want to hear and keep the volume down. *As in so bad it's almost painful.
  11. Selling this "mint", in 2 senses of the word, Sire U5. Its a great short scale bass, very light and upgraded with a Di Marzio DP126 PJ pickup set, Ki0gon loom (VBT) and chrome control knobs. This is the older version with the ivory coloured binding which people either like or not, personally I prefer it. I can't see any marks on it. I've got the old Sire pickups (black casings) which I can put in, in which case the price would be £285. Collection from Tunbridge Wells, or meet up in London for £15 contribution to my train fare. Possibly could meet up by car depending on distance. No gigbag or case but I'll pack it very well if you want it it sent but you'd have to arrange your preferred courier and I accept no responsibility once it leaves my possession.
  12. Might be worth trying Elixirs
  13. The stripes....but that's just me! Bet its a lovely bass with that pre, would love to hear a straight comparison tone wise between this and an NG.
  14. I caught the tail end of it, and listened to quite a bit on Thursday evening. Whilst I’m not a country aficionado I liked the majority of what I heard - and agree, the house band sounded very good.
  15. Alphabet Street - Prince
  16. I think you will be fine. Our ears aren't great at hearing sub 120Hz so the quality of the subs is going to be less than crucial. I've done gigs at excruciating sound levels with some ancient JBL 125W subs and they did add something and spared the tops a little too, so job done. If you bought these online then you've got a return period to reject it and a chance to try it out at home so the risks are almost zero. Is Sylvie able to record some of the gig? it would be great to know how you get on with the sub, on spec it is the bargain of the moment. It might be a great cab to mod too. For well under £100 you could put in a reasonable neo driver and maybe save a kilo or two whilst improving the performance. Anyway I'd love to know how you get on with it. Hope it works out
  17. Just thought I'd update this topic. After cleaning the contacts on the speaker relay the amp has been performing without problems.
  18. Depends how handy you are yourself. I would loosen the trussrod and see if the gap closes. Then turn the trussrod again so the gap opens a bit. Fill the gap with titebond (maybe mixed with a bit of water to make it more fluid). fill the gap with glue, and loosen the trussrod again so the gap closes.

  20. I have a bass with Overwater Flats and they have the old fashioned thump if that's what you are looking for. I have no idea who makes them.
  21. Great instuments, but very different to a Rob Allen. They're full scale and have a more conventionally electric tone. Get one if you can though, Status are still making them as of right now, and apparently actually have a couple of them in stock.
  22. I'd give more creedence to one which had its original brand. You could go with Aria, based on your info, but the identical bass could have left the factory with one of several other brands and we'll (sorry - royal "we" sounds pompus!) never know. The Rickenbastard is an option for Lemmy fans. Or you could choose one with anything you like on it! I've had a couple with TRCs by GIG.INK...
  23. NOFX - Gonoherpasyphaloids
  24. A new band means a new bass. I usually build them myself but that's been on the backburner since my son came along so this will have to do! One of my favourite things about building my own basses is coming up with new body shapes, so I'm perversely intrigued by the fact that Spector have felt no such urge since the 70s! I must say, they did rather nail it, it's very comfortable. Bought as new from Bass Direct, but it's a slightly older one with the Tonepump preamp in it - a curious little thing that is unusably hot until you get in there with a screwdriver and turn it down to half-way. It's still nothing special, but my addiction to tinkering means it'll be getting swapped out anyway. But what a lovely bass it is. Sounds fantastic through my Darkglass pedal (but then I think pretty much any bass would). It's booked in for a pro set-up to see just how lovely I can get it, but in the meantime it'll be put through its paces at band practice on Thursday. Oh and it's my first 5 string - I play metal in B standard so wanted the 35 inch scale. Not a lot of 4 strings out there that fit the bill (with a handful of notable exceptions, of course). Spector do a multiscale 4 that goes down to 36", but I wanted a Euro so here we are. After a few minutes of panic and buyers remorse, I got used to it! Can't fault it really (apart from that preamp). The CST series has an ebony board, which was tempting, but there isn't a finish/hardware combo that I like. The rosewood on this one is nice and dark, so I'm more than happy with it. If I was building it, I would have recessed the control plate, but that really is my only gripe so far!

  25. Yep - I put one on a 2010 4003 and couldn't get it low enough, so I reverted to the original V1.
