I did an experiment with my Minmax this afternoon - I unscrewed the fan and took it out, powered up the amp on my desk with the fan running away from the chassis. The same noisy fan was virtually silent, so it is the casing that creates the noise. I need to find a way to make a 'silent' mounting.

I have an EV RE20 which is not happy. I need it looked at and repaired. I have seen some vids on YT but my DIY track record is appalling. Can anyone suggest trustworthy and reliable Mic repair bods? TIA

That’s what I did on Instagram and I’m waiting for his answer 😅 ps : I may be as old as you ahah

True ! And nobody ever manager to take a picture of it 😅. I go to their concert in France 👀

Great stuff. I think you might have owned a Triungulo Barbanera at some stage. I’m wondering how the Past FX compares. As much as I like the Barbanera, the always on gain is a bit annoying!

Loving every minute that I play that Greco bass I bought which knocked me out of proceedings this year?

This looks great. I wish Fender (Squier) would offer more P basses with J size necks...

First rehearsal last night. Band commented on how full it sounded.

Due to a large number of confirmed theatre shows coming in for 2026 with a brand new Doobie Brothers tribute show I'm involved in, our 'Tom Johnston' will need to job share/have a regular dep. If you, or anyone you know (!) is capable of r'n'b/rock lead singing the Tom songs (Listen To The Music, Long Train Runnin, Without You, Rockin Down The Highway, Another Park Another Sunday, Sweet Maxine, Eyes Of Silver, China Grove & Take Me In Your Arms), singing BV's on the rest and playing lead guitar as well, please PM me....! Thanks!

Aidan63 started following Flats on a fretted Jazz bass.

I actually liked groundwounds a lot when I tried them on mine, different attack to the flats, so much so, I cut them down and tried them on my Lionel fretless, now also sold, but I still have the strings if anyone wants to try them on a non through body strung shortie (ie not a Mustang) with 4 in a row headstock, though I guess you could also fit them on a 3+1 or 2+2 headed shortie.

Hi Tim, The point of what I suggested is that you isolate the ground to the mic itself. I assume in the example you quoted, someone has lifted the ground elsewhere, so the mic is still connected to the PA ground via the cable shield, and therefore any potential in the PA earth plane is earthed through your mouth and guitar/amp. I think this is more likely than it travelling from your guitar earth to the PA earth if you're saying the ground was removed? If you remove the shield from the mic, the casing of the mic should not be connected to earth and therefore stop you getting belts. Maybe I have misunderstood what you meant. -

I've only known one person, a guitarist, who did that. He also didn't know the difference between B minor and B flat. -
Byo started following Solidgold FX beta overdrive - £80
-
The Beta is an amazing pedal, it does that Ampeg B-15 saturated thing very well and it gives you a slight low end bump, which I always found perfect for fingerstyle. If I am not mistaken, this is the 2nd colour scheme of the 1st version of the Beta. The original run had orange lettering and graphics, and the subsequent run had this dark gray/black finish. I own this 2nd colour scheme. Then SolidGold FX issued the DLX version, with a lot of features and a switchable boost. And then, the 3rd iteration came out, the MKII, where you could defeat the preamp with a top-mounted toggle, which bypassed the gain. Same pedal essentially with the added feature. They also made high-gain, germanium, LM308... versions of the Beta too. The current version you can buy off the shelf is the Beta V. GLWTS! It's a really cool pedal.

My ability was never going to justify the cost of a 'real' one (or the amount of use it'd get). So, a Chinese SUB with a Stinger preamp and Nordstrand MM4.2 pickup, converted tounlined fretless, with a new rosewood fingerboard. Close enough for me to noodle on at home. Now, wherever did I lay my hat?

When I'm not going wireless I use one of two leads OBBM made for me back in 2010. Before that I was using a couple of leads I made myself in 1979. I'm still using XLR cables I made up in the mid 90s. Get something made with decent quality components and don't abuse it and it will last you forever.
