  3. I'm in my 60s now and I've never let my age get in the way of playing the music I want. Up until the end of last year I was in 2 post-punk/goth influenced bands, both of which I joined when I was the same age you are now. I found one through a JMB ad that I placed. I was specific about the sort of music I wanted to play and the level of commitment that I was prepared to put in and that I expected from the band in return. It took almost a year to get a reply, but it was exactly the sort of band I was looking for and is the band that I am still playing with, albeit with only one of the members that was in the band I when joined. The second was a band that I was a fan of and was following on Facebook, so when they posted that they were looking for a replacement bass player I got in touch. For this one because the band was reasonably well-know within the genre they had several other people interested and there were additions held. I was the one chosen and the only reason I'm no longer with them now is that I decided to concentrate on the other band when the singer announced he was calling it a day. In both cases that fact that bands already knew who I was (my previous band had done gigs with both bands in the past) I think was an advantage when it came to auditions etc. So while you are looking go out there and and see some gigs by local bands playing the sort of music you want to play and get networking.
  4. I also run my Gnome 280w through my Barefaced Two10 and it sounds so much better through my TC 208 cab. It is much cleaner and punchier. I run my LM IV mostly through my Barefaced Two10 and the vintage colouring is noticeable. I think @Phil Starr worked out that the flat setting on the Gnome was bass at 10, Mids at 2 and Treble at 10 ..... I think.

    It'd be nice to be able to easily copy and paste patches if you have some basic settings you use on everything (for me, it's a preamp and compressor) and using a desktop app would seem like the obvious place to implement that functionality.

  11. Sorry to butt in !! From what understand the tuner issues only occurred with the black tuners. Where the teeth were either soft or buckled & were rendered almost useless, when tuning.

Apparently, the Modulus made early necks were a myth (rrp of a modulus neck was almost as much as the rrp of the G Bass), and they are not actually carbon necks as marketed, they have a maple core with a carbon wrap. Still cracking basses for the money of course, but really interesting marketing choice from Peavey; the manual literally says it's a Carbon Graphite neck with no mention of it being mostly wood. Crazy but there you go. Still want it!

  15. I've just talked to my mate / guitar player / BL, who trades guitars quite a lot. He's close but not quite as generous as you lot - he reckons £1,500 to £1,600, which is pretty much what the guy is looking for! Having a think about it...

  18. It was actually a shop damaged blue VM P/J which I got for cheap. Plugged the bridge cavity kept the P PU and repainted....Its now a standard VM P bass albeit with a minor alteration. Great neck, under 8IIbs and nicely resonant.

  20. OK, had a look at the Darkglass Suite again today and as far as I can see you cannot create patches in there. You can select a patch and interrogate the settings but thats it. On feature which I would find good (like the Headrush I had) is to be able to save a pedals settings to a unique filename that can be loaded into a new patch. I know I can write the pedal settings down and enter them by hand in a new patch but this would be so much simpler and quicker.
  21. It's a good idea but in the last fifteen to twenty years we have been better looked after, with Fender doing a Mexican P bass and Sire doing everything! There have been a few sellers I've noticed that do this kind of thing. There was one on eBay doing nice Fender shaped stuff but they were having around a long time before selling, there's also someone in Japan who bolts together unique basses made from the usable bits of old knackered ones. Thing is it's a gamble buying one of these. So I guess if you're looking for the USP in selling bitsas for me it would be the personal touch in design consultation and instrument handover that would make the sale, rather than seeing a nice picture online. I built a fantastic looking PJ bass bitsa myself with good quality bits but it just didn't ever feel right to me, so you're playing it down by saying it's just screwing some bits together, that all important finishing and set up is the real value!

Sorry I may be a bit behind the curve here (I tried to read all the posts above but my other half was insistent on telling me about somebody, whom I have never met, kids latest news, despite the fact I was clearly reading something). I see @Phil Starr stepped in about the Warwick Gnome. I think they are far from transparent in the EQ sense. I have owned the basic 200 watt version and now own the iPro 280 watt. I also have two LFSys Monzas and the first time I tried the iPro through a Monza it sounded horrible to my ears. Fortunately, @Phil Starr clued me in about the Gnome’s baked in EQ profile and I now have the weirdest looking settings, which make it sound good through the Monza. Conversely it sounds OK through my Barefaced Two10S without the tweaking but that is because it is unravelling the Two10S’ default vintage colouring. It is definitely the antidote to vintage; does that make it HiFi? I have never found the jack out on the Gnome a problem and all my cabinets have speakon sockets. Just get a jack to speakon loudspeaker cable, available for very little on fleaBay and the like. If you want an effects loop, pre-post DI out and speakon sockets on a Gnome, you are going to have to go for the iPro 600 watt v2. It is still within your budget but is a bit bigger and heavier than the lower powered versions. It may still fit in a gig bag pocket though and it also benefits from 4 band EQ. I have no idea whether the baked in EQ is different from the original.

  26. Actually I made a mistake. It had Nordstrand Big Singles originally. That’s where I was confused. I don’t have the original pickups. I already sold them. I updated the ad with the correct info. Thanks for the heads up!
