  2. I have both. The Lakland is a great bass if you need a polished smooth sound and works best to my mind if you have a lot of different genres to cover in a gig because it can just about do it all in my humble opinion. I really like the switching on the humbucker giving 60s and 70s single coil spacing or full HB as opposed to the usual series/parallel/single coil. The two I have owned have both had clear sounding open and fretted notes on the B string. For years and years the Stingray 5 was my favourite bass and it's still a bass I hold in very high esteem. Not so versatile as the 55-02 obviously but does what it does really well and has a quality to the sound that just always fits in a mix. The B string is consistently superb from one example to another so whatever they did on this bass back at the design stage nearly 40 years ago they got it nigh on perfect for a 34" scale length. Necks are a fair bit different on these two and they don't sound alike imo. Definitely two separate flavours worth having!
  3. https://on.soundcloud.com/6JQCn0Lt5YfoMt2OVQ Something a little jazzy for a change, inspired by BlueNote Organ jazz, a bit of Wes Montgomery and possibly Pink Floyd and Pat Metheny for good measure. Many thanks to Phil Beavis for the Hammond Organ part, really made it, for me!
  4. I must had misunderstand what he mentioned then.. any idea what's the big toroid in the noble for?
  5. Stunning 🤩
  6. Looks really nice
  7. Well this is nice, I get to report a new bass acquisition without fear of Tier 1 infraction. This Sandberg California TT4 SuperLight arrived today and is LOVELY!!! Great active Jazz sound and only weights 2.8kg / 6.2lbs too. I ordered it back at the end of August so I understand that means it’s not in scope for this year’s challenge. Yay!!!
  8. ah cool. (Nobel preamp doesn't use an input transformer mind)
  9. It's 44mm at the nut. I'm never quite sure about the various neck profiles, but it feels quite shallow to me, compared to my JV Precision and 70s Tele Bass.
  10. Today
  11. Lots of amps and cabs on there for very little. Anyone spot the full trace stack for £100!
  12. No. I'm a tight-wad. The only time I buy something is if I run out of it, or I've spent too long trying to fix it when it broke. My last bass lasted 25 years and after 2 years of saying there's nothing wrong with it, I bit the bullet and bought a new one. I find feeling down is fixed with exercise and company, ideally both at the same time. Obviously not everyone can exercise, but a walk with the dog is good enough. Although, as I've never been depressed, it's easy for me to say.
  13. @Silky999 is making a lovely looking stingray body...
  14. Your female vocalist in black is the spitting image of Geri Halliwell.
  15. " The fee will go up " That's the best place for fees to go. Lol Daryl
  16. Well, it’s here… came home this lunch time and discovered that they’d delivered it early - fortunately they’d stashed it behind our bins - not taken it back to the depot. Phew. I have to say that I love it. It looks and sounds great and, of course, the feel of the neck is wonderful. It’s the all-paulownia version but none the worse for that. The sound is in just the Jazz territory that I like with bounce and spring in all the right frequency ranges. Lovely. I’ll be using it at church tomorrow evening and then again at the Weekly Monday Jam on Monday so I will report back on the sound… but I do not expect to be disappointed. Oh yeah… and the number you all want to know… 2.8kg / 6.2lbs which is daft but it still feels great on a suede backed leather strap. No neck dive discernible at all. Love it so far!
  17. Not more money to everyone. More money to someone who this song is part of their history. It's all part of the "things have emotional value". Like the first bass you owned. Some people have sold their first bass or thrown it in a skip. Others have it in the loft, never to be played again, warped neck, busted pots, but with that sentimental value that means they'll never get rid of it.
  18. I love Sir Horace, but 20k is crazy money, eSpecially for a bass he got rid of.
  19. Up for sale is this passive Sterling by Music Man Pete Wentz signature StingRay bass in a very eye catching Fiesta Red finish. I had a change of heart and withdrew my 40th anniversary Squier Jazz ad recently, so have put this up for sale as although I love it, it's the bass getting used least with my band and I've recently bought another bass. This is a very cool, passive StingRay in fantastic condition (small scratch on the back of the headstock pictured in the only sign of wear), with one of my favourite necks I've ever had on any bass. Roasted maple, stays straight throughout all seasons and feels great in the hand for those who like a chunkier bass neck. This also comes fitted with Dunlop Straploks and crucially; high quality Schaller BM tuners to replace the stock tuners which were to be blunt, utter garbage. As a passive bass with a single humbucker with just volume and tone controls it's a different vibe from a regular active StingRay, sounds great as a passive bass and it's a snarling rock beast with a fat sounding passive humbucker that you can also get a lot of mellower tones out of. Also comes with a good quality Ritter gig bag; has a broken handle (as pictured) but all other straps and handles are in good working order. I would much prefer collection in person or half-way meet if you're reasonably close to Brighton in the South East. However, I do have a sturdy cardboard box to send this in so could look into sending at an additional cost to the buyer, and at their own risk (as it's not in a hard case so can't be insured by courier services). Please see my feedback for assurance of past honest dealings on the forum: Any questions, send me a message. Thanks.
  20. Now that is uber cool.
  21. Both are preamp replica, the builder(a friend from oriental, he is now working on noble which will included the input transformer)..made some changes based on the original design and switch to high end components. On the left is based on inner bamboo b-ii And the right .. yea the bp1c.
  22. Recently purchased this: Its ostensibly designed for guitar, but with the dry blend it works great on bass. Its a subtle, textural drive, which is exactly what I want.
  23. Bloodhound Gang... Saw them live YEARS ago, Evil Jared (bassist) threw up into Jimmy Pop's (singer) mouth after drinking a whole bottle of Jagermister through a funnel.
  24. I'm sure your right Trevor. The only thing that elevates the value of this bass is the idea that because it's been played on an important hit records that makes it worth more money. That "specialness" is a bit of an unstable commodity, as you quite rightly point out. All I can say is that, despite loving that song and my respect for Horace Panter as a musician, to me all that adds absolutely zero to the amount I would pay for this bass, if in fact I liked it, which I don't. I have never subscribed to the idea that an instrument is more worth owning because a famous pro player has owned it previously. Exactly the opposite, in fact. I'd rather have a nice new bass that only I have played.
  25. @kuetsum - what is it?! who's made it?
