  1. Past hour
  2. just for clarity there is nothing really musical in this short! but the Sun Swallower is killer
  3. Find an offcut of old mains wire. Remove some 6" lengths of the thick copper wire. These can be soldered temporarily to the end of pickup etc. wires to aid threading them through awkward holes/spaces.
  4. According to my Vernier it's 44.4mm.
  5. Photo dump of the case! I like the fact that you can travel with the body inside a soft bag, which protects it in transit, but then also that comes in very handy when you get to destination: you can rebuild the bass in the hotel and go to gigs on the soft bag as you normally would. the neck is kept in place by a foam recess built in the lid and the case has wheels, a retractable handle and very sturdy handles on the long sides too. A great job!
  6. Dangerous to go round before the gig? 🤣😵‍💫
  7. Change the bass tone so it cuts through. it's all about working together. Not all bass players are even capable of holding the low end down so I don’t agree the keyboard player must only use certain parts of the keyboard. Ive seen band with awfully muddy bass tones that ruin the whole mix and you cant hear the music clearly. If it's a piano part then the bass needs to remember that a piano is played with two hands and work with the keyboard player. I agree that a keyboard player should not be playing the bass part as such, but the low end can be multiple instruments and not just bass. Band's have had keys and bass in them for years, Look at Elton John/Billy Joel etc for example. All over the keyboard, but does the bass player not get heard?
  8. Should fit fine. Be aware Fender do not do final fret finishing on their spare parts so you might have to do that. But that’s the same with every supplier.

    Sean's Feedback

Bought a two 10 barfaced cab in a rather fetching shade of green from Sean. Met up in Somerset for an easy transaction, now giving my other two 10 a boost.

  14. Hello Ian, I have sent you a PM. Cheers, Mark.
  15. A perennial problem, this. We have had similar issues in our band. Our KB player, whilst very able, has relatively little experience of playing in bands. We have had to educate him regarding the difference between playing solo piano/keys pieces, where he can play a melody, chordal accompaniment and bass part simultaneously, and playing in a band context, where clashes with other instruments, notably the bass, are inevitable unless he thins out what he does and treads carefully. The issue is worst when the keyboard sound is similar, tonally and in attack - think electric piano and similar - to the bass. Soft or sustained organ or brass sounds are often less of a problem. There are two ways around it. Either the keys left hand has to mimic the bass part exactly - a bit pointless as it's duplication - or stay away from the low end altogether. In our case, we have asked the keys player to split the keyboard - say with brass on one end and strings on the other - which enables him to fill out the overall band sound better and avoid the clash with the bass. As we play classic soul, that works well, but it may not be so effective in other styles. And of course, it depends on the keys player's ego allowing him to be directed. Encourage your daughter to stand her ground and insist the keys player stays out from under her feet.
  16. Gosh, I want that but I really don't need it. GLWTS.

  19. I asked this question today..... .....and thanks to a few members am now aware of some tools of which I was completely oblivious, specifically a step drill bit (genius) and a tapered reamer. So, it seemed it might be useful to start a thread in which you could let us know which tools you use for which DIY jobs on bass, especially if they're old school and manual 👍
  20. Yeah in this case i concur that its not necessary but a peek at them to evaluate the state of them would not be completely unwise ( what with it being over 40 years old and of unknown background). In my day job in Broadcast Engineering we are often replacing CAPS on PSU's in ageing broadcast kit in the transmission that remains on for 24/7 ( SDI routers / vision mixers /Camera channels etc and the like) so it would be a formality to check and replace any problematic ones. We have old kit that hasnt been switched off for 10 years that works fine, but wed be very afraid if it powercycled...
