  4. I think the people you play with have a big impact. I’ve been fortunate to play with some really great people (drummer in particular) and it just levels me up immediately. Then I go jam with some plod-alongs, and my skills nosedive!
  5. One from my man - the (nearly) complete bass performance of Paul Chambers on 'Blue In Green' from the 1959 Miles Davis classic 'Kind Of Blue'. I didn't get the arco par5t from the closing section, not because it is hard (it isn't) but because it is quite difficult actually hear the details. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/blue-in-green-miles-davis/
  6. Also…don’t mind a trade for a decent bass cab…???
  7. I did a pickup gig years ago and the singer without warning shouted ‘bass solo’. So I just carried in playing the exact line I’d been playing albeit with just drums for company….. …… and the audience loved it. Made me wonder whether us bassists really need s band 😆
  8. Nice deep bass tone. Loving that tone. Dave

  10. I’ll be keen to check out the Thorpe FX offering. I wonder what the price might be; £265ish? And now I’m looking at FTelectronicas version again. https://www.ftelettronica.com/product/envelope-follower-triggered-filter/ I really don’t need another filter but…
  11. I think they will be very different once I've used a reference mic to get rid of the speaker/room effects. Should be anlevto sort it next week.

  13. Thanks for this. Yes, I am very surprised it's still here at this price...
  14. A couple of people have asked about trades, but honestly I don’t think there’s anything I want or need.
  15. Hey everyone, My 17 year old daughter has decided that she wants to learn to play bass. This obviously excites me as my son already plays Jazz piano and so I am very happy she has chosen bass. She does however have short arms as we've discovered from 5 years of karting and needing a variety of seat inserts. So a short scale is on the cards. Before justifying my man maths and going head first into either a Japanese Fender Mustang or a JMJ Mustang, I'm considering a starter bass for her. My choices are, Squier Bronco Harley Benton Mustang Copy Squier Classic Vibe Mustang Each one has differing price ranges so just asking for thoughts and opinions and any clear winners. Thanks in advance.
  16. my first bass back in the day ..
  17. Today
  18. Does anyone have any experience with swapping the preamp in a VM5? I bloody love the bass, it plays like a dream but the tone isn't as 'alive' as my Fender jazz 5. It feels a little sterile to me. I'm thinking of popping an East pre in there and was wondering if anyone else has done the same. YouTube has an example done on a TT but no VM. Cheers!
  19. I agree - they're sort of unique in what they do.
  20. I have no doubt your right. As i said in the description before my time someone swapped the pickups.
