The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
AlexDelores replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
Damn this Forum! Since @fretmeister posted his P basses, I can’t stop looking at P basses. I don’t even like single pickup basses and I’m very much enjoying playing the bass I bought 2 weeks ago. In fact, I have absolutely no need for a new bass and already have a P/J should I want/need the single P. But still, can’t stop googling ‘em! I will resist, I will 🥲😬😆 -
The future of amps & cabs - stage props only?

Perhaps they are meant to, like Rush's rotisseries. -

Not Stingrays, but I’ve always thought Mike Lull colour choices are superb. A little scroll through their Instagram/website might inspire something 🙌

Pubs and venues to be protected from noise complaints

I thought the English loved noise? ** “The English may not like music, but they absolutely love the noise it makes”. Sir Thomas Beecham -
That's definitely something I would want to do in similar circumstances but I would get much better pictures made - those just look totally fake.

Just bought a bass from Daniel. Hassle free, and a pleasure to deal with. Many thanks Daniel. Lovely to meet you.

Pubs and venues to be protected from noise complaints

This is the stupidest law project ever. Noise is a health problem, period. So noise makers must contain it within their properties and limits, so they are the ones to build the soundproof barrier, not the neighbourhood. It's also based on respecting the others. If you understand this, you'll live in total harmony with everyone. The freedom of one ends where that of another begins. -

At risk of getting distracted on a related topic - why on earth would anyone design a preamp pedal where the output/master volume affects the DI signal level? Of course for the input/gain, but from a sound engineers perspective the last thing you want is someone fiddling with their overall level? On the Magellan I have the output (volume) only affects the preamp out and headphone out so you can adjust your own stage level without intefering with the FoH signal.
-
Indeed I don't get it - weddings pay way more than playing the same songs in a pub gig, simply because of a bit of extra fuss and hassle, and frankly, this wasn't much hassle.

Pubs and venues to be protected from noise complaints

It's a case of who was there first. If you build a dwelling next to a noisy venue then that should be your responibility. If a bar/cub opene up next to you then it's their responsibility. It's the "Agent of Change " princible. -
He never owned a P bass. I believe he played a jazz bass on Rock the Boat, Mamma Pearl is also a spurious one as it doesn’t sound like a tele bass but I have the multitrack for that one so I’ll post his isolated bass soon.

Noise pollution is a common cause of stress, so keeping it down, or keeping it in, will reduce ill health and the resultant load on the NHS. I have no problem with people who want it loud, but I think it is wrong to expect the rest of the neighbourhood to pay for soundproofing. The polluter should pay for the reduction/treatment of their pollution. If that results in most pubs being quiet, and purpose built venues for loud music, with prices to suit, that seems fair to me. Paddy got in touch to buy an Aguilar DI from me this month and the communication was flawless, very up front about needing a bit of time to complete the order but offered un-prompted to pay a deposit up front and everything ran exactly on the short timeline he suggested. Absolutely zero issues, a friendly chat along the way so I would deal with him again in a heartbeat.

This looks amazing. I've been thinking about building one of these myself. I don't suppose you still have a design template for the body? Cheeky question I know! -

I had a message from Jasper Holtby thanking me for his transcription but telling me it was wrong 😆 I never corrected it. I think he disagreed about the time signature but I couldn't work out what he meant. Neil Murray was very kind and Jeff Berlin was totally supportive. Robin Phillips of Solstice was cool as was Jon Poole of Life signs.
